Okay, so since Andi cut three last night, I am cutting my top 10 list to top 7 (and new order):

1- Marcus ... watch who the Bachelorette chases and not other way around. Curious that he did not get a video package on ABC.com posted (last I looked anyhow) but got first date group rose, a solo strip (nice!) and looks to be getting one on one date.

2 - No date Nick V ... hmmm ... also did not get a video package on ABC but the Bachelorettes generally let the first impression rose guy or guys they are confident about skip the first group date but reward with date following week, which happens to Nick V. So I am thinking he will either get kicked off in next couple episodes or make it to top 2 with Marcus.  

3- Josh a.k.a. Arie ... so our financial advisor has TONS of chemistry with Andi and they are letting us see it. He also got the first kiss AND a nice video package on ABC. But, I don't buy that he hasn't had a date in five years (???) and I don't trust the producers when they show us this much chemistry early on so I am thinking he lasts until final 3 and then is firm candidate for next Bachelor along with ...

4 - Farmer Chris for Bachelor... such a sweet guy, good looking guy, sincere guy ... BUT ... not Andi's guy. Their chemistry is off. I am sure that the producers are wanting to keep him around to see how audiences react to him. Would be interesting choice for next Bachelor and the polar opposite of Juan Pablo. Middle America would rejoice.

5 - Coach Brian ... She sure seemed to be digging his stripper moves and he could be our little under dog.

6- JJ the pants seller ... another guy without a date. She either is confident that she likes him ... or ... he gets the boot in next few episodes. He got a video package so I know that he's smart and from cool city of San Francisco. I think she gives him a shot.

7- Mysterious Ron ... my daughter's pick ... thinks he could go to number 1. He's got a way about him ... very confident and good looking in a quiet manner.

MAYBE's....
1- Marquel and his cookies ... well, after seeing his video package, he's clearly a very hot guy and a very sweet guy but I don't think that living in Vegas with a guy who obsessively makes cookies in his spare time is her thing.
2 - Dylan ... so I know that he's guy a very sad story to share and I am sure that ABC will give him the time to share it. But I have to say his little lap dance for CHris was just a bit strange. I liked him a lot but gotta move him down here to the maybe's.
3 - Patrick  ... Super super fine looking dude but I smell trouble with him. No one needs to verify this but I am guessing he's the one with girlfriend. He's too hot not to have a girlfriend.
4 - Tasos - Hmm ...I liked his video package, seems very kind and sweet BUT not thinking he's the one for Andi

MATTER of TIME ...
1  - Andrew ... sees to be causing trouble in future episodes
2 - Bradley Opera Singer ... sure they made her keep him for the singing episode next week
3 - Cody Personal trainer ... nothing nice to say so will refrain. Oh, he does have fantastic abs.
4 - Bret Hairstylist ... seems sweet but I am not digging his hair do

So that's the viewpoint of an innocent   non spoiled ... I think that I will be able to call final four after next two episodes ...

As a Seattle girl, Cody reminds me (in looks) of Macklemore.

My teenager passed through the room quickly last night as Cody was on-screen, paused, then asked why Macklemore would ruin his career by taking steroids and going on this show.

Episode 2: where the magic wasn’t all in Magic Mike

The opening preview montage intertwines Eric (the planet explorer saying “I’ll never grow out of this” as he and Andi make sandcastles) and Chris (“I’m here with the most amazing woman on the planet”) with the same slushy orchestration, as Andi croons this could be the start of an incredible love story. Josh then gushes about her giving him something he never felt ever… followed by the ceremonial breaking of a plate on the ground. Then Josh voice-overs that this is not going to be any more perfect... the cue for a dissolve to Andi in Chris’ arms. She says, over Chris, “This is exactly why I wanted to be the Bachelorette”. Alas… poor Nick gets the ominous “everyone’s on the chopping block” while Marcus is Find Waldo… only he won’t be this episode since Andi will keep searching him out.

Where to begin? Because the solo dates should be analyzed together, I will start with Date #2, the group performing a Magic Mike strip show in front of a live audience.

The male exotic date was a cross pollination of Mister America and last season’s doggie shoot… and kinda dull for those of us not into that sort of thing. Yeah, we had the plus of two familiar faces from past seasons in the audience, but they were silent cameos. It felt like an audition for possible leads next season and, for Nick S., an audition for Sun & Health’s pictorial spread.

Marcus, a.k.a. Top Gun, was The Star (and rose-earner), not because of his performance as a man-in-uniform but because he was being pushed out of his shell, so to speak. Andi would not stop talking about him the whole time. Granted some of the talk was “hot” talk, but something about him brings out that maternal instinct. He was as nervous as Andi was last year only wearing signs, but fortunately no pep talks were needed to get him to pull it off like the other guys… literally. In the evening, she was searching for him much like Emily would Jef, concerned he may be too much of a wallflower. However, he was the one she was most proud of this episode.

Then again, she likes the shy ones. Josh may not be shy but he sometimes is around her. Most of his fumbling (a bleachable moment you can vote on… only I didn’t see anything that needed bleaching… he was fine to me in his gushy nervousness) was shown later in the episode, redeemed by his kiss, but the group date session firmly established his storyline. He made it clear to her that he is not just an athlete, something she admits to previously stereotyping him as. (To Craig, he’s the ultimate stud who makes him feel “small”.) A continuing theme has her unveiling new layers with each guy and it is apparent that Josh’s “love story” will be going full throttle as the season progresses, making All of America cheer for a possible finish line. (I have to say possible, since her line of “thank you for being here” is spoken over his face just after she axes Craig, Nick S. and Carl at the rose ceremony.)

Tasos was our #1 narrator this episode followed by Josh and Marquel… although I didn’t do a count.

Craig = Victoria as this season’s swimming pool slush puppy. Only he wasn’t escorted out… and was quite good on the guitar before the rose ceremony he was eliminated in.

Obviously, Andi questions if the guys are there for her and if she made a mistake doing this show. Yeah… she should have some concern to worry, but there were only two having fun. The gal may be jumping to conclusions too hastily. I doubt she was all that into Craig anyway that it should matter he is overdoing it by coming out of his shell. Not sure when these PI sessions were held, but it is obvious why the storyboard wanted to show her “down and out” here. This is so that she could be “pulled back up” on her next date.

Jumping ahead to the pre-RC cocktails, I want to single out Nick V., who had no date this week. “Let’s get things poppin” was what he wrote to her. I initially thought they would pop those strawberries into chocolate or something, but my overall feel for this sweet sitdown is that it foreshadows an upcoming solo date, shown in great romantic detail in the “coming up in two nights” previews. They are really pushing him as THE frontrunner there.

On to this episode’s solo dates…

Here’s a bit of useless and completely idiotic trivia: Chris was second out of the limos and Eric second to last… and sporting his boy and girl Peruvian dolls, while “hot” Marcus and Josh opened and closed the limo parade (i.e. Marcus prompting a “wow” out of Andi and Andi prompting a “wow” out of Josh). All four took turns as stars of this episode, with Nick stuck with one brief sitdown.

I can’t imagine any two guys being so different in this cast. On the hulu/abc.com bios, we open with Eric’s globe spinning… a globe with a population of 7 billion humans. This is his “home”. With Chris, we see the snowy terrain of Lamont and Arlington with a population of 750 humans, but 12, 000 hogs. Eric is placing push pins on a world map. Chris is surveying a much smaller land area on his laptop. Eric is getting photographed in too many landmarks to name (camels included) and Chris is doing inventories. While Chris simply says “I’m gonna pull up in my tractor and I’m gonna let you ride with me in the sunset”, Eric says “Love is always a leap of faith, but it is THE adventure in life.”

This episode is loaded with all of the same… is it all a smokescreen? or are they giving us signs?... editing tricks as last week.

As mentioned before, when Andi dressed up in the premiere show, she stated, “I really believe my great love is waiting for me somewhere in that group of men”, then a bit later “Some guy is going to get out of the limo and that can be my husband. My heart is just pounding. This is the beginning…” The very next shot was quiet Chris sitting in that limo as other guys talked around him. She then told Chris… Harrison… that her husband could be in one of those limos.

In this episode, Andi says again… right before Eric’s date… "One of these men can be my husband", followed by Chris in the very next shot saying he’s ready to start his love story. When addressing the guys, Chris… Harrison again… tells them all “Andi might become your wife” as the camera stops on the trio of Brett, Craig and (slightly hidden) Chris Soules.

The date with Eric involved the beach and snowboarding. Ever the athlete, he somersaults in a way I didn’t think was humanly possible… then again, I don’t watch sports often. (Man! Do I need to leave my cave more frequently.) There is an interesting other worldly quality about him that I can’t describe. In his evening sitdown with her, he tells the chilling tale of his visit to Syria that could have ended his life… a tale with added potency today. He says he is not all about globe-trotting and most importantly wants children. Although the one line of his has been used too frequently in past seasons, the way he says “this could be the first date with my future wife” chokes me up a bit.

Although it is sad that his life was cut short, Eric was one very lucky guy who has experienced more in 32 years than the majority of us living decades longer. He also seems to increase others’ luck. After reading Chris’ date card “Let’s get our love on track”, he instantly hugs Chris… and Chris’s horse wins at Santa Anita… and… who knows?... maybe Chris wins something else?

It is fair to say this Iowa boy is not the most dynamic and exciting character on the show, constantly labeling her “the most beautiful woman in the world”, a world that Eric has explored a lot more fully since 1982, the year they were born. To the casual viewer, this Average Joe is low on the totem poll, but… again… we keep getting The Signs. At Santa Anita, he and Andi meet a couple (clearly producer encouraged) lecturing them on their 55 years of marriage. This reminds me of James and Desiree’s Atlantic City couple, but this time the camera stays focused on both Chris and Andi during the bulk of the instruction… listening together.

Of course, he got the rose in the evening. She was in a bad state after the guys’ drunken frivolities the previous night and, like a previous Chris when a particular Bryden hightailed, this Chris becomes her rock of Gibraltar in this moment. The editors highlight the line “just a little icing on the cake” (what kind, might I ask?) during The Wild Life performance that the couple danced and kissed to.

So… just what are “they” up to this season? Could just be another Put On with a “Gotcha!” at the end. Or something the “spoiled” is not expecting. Hey! Don’t matter to me since I usually forget all about the outcome, couple or no couple, as I move onto the next season. Andi to Emil in episode #1: “If I wasn't open to moving somewhere else, I might as well not have come here. I might as well stay in Atlanta and try to date someone there.” Yeah, but Emil was dumped shortly after you told him that.

I actually like both relationships. It does seem... at this stage at least, maybe not later... that Josh is more "into" her than she is with him. Then again, she isn't doing much for the cameras with Chris, so... of course!... they look b-o-r-i-n-g!

Josh seems like a goof every time I see him, but for being pissed of his pookie is pissed off.
