This makes sense to me too because of their obvious common ground. Add in a little pull on the heartstrings, a feel good gesture to set the tone for the season, and something the other guys can surely understand.

The only other option is that Brent has a heartbreaking story about his wife dying and leaving him with 6 kids; however, since he doesn't get very far, I think Doug's letter from his son might be the better prospect.

I haven't watched every season - didn't watch Ben's - but I thought the person who receives the FIR get the first date - seems to me that was the case with Roberto anyway?

Not necessarily, Ryan got the FIR from Ashley and he did not get a date until epi 7?

Frankie boy got the first date - Roberto's wasn't til Epi 3.

It was actually Ashley S who got the FIR but Emily got one the next night after talking to R&A. It will be fun to see who gets the group date roses and how they line up. If there was a group date rose offered, it was always to Emily.
