Re: Doug Clerget - Bachelorette 8 Contestant - Thread #1
Thanks for sharing these nice things about Doug. He already has fans here based merely on a few photographs so hopefully he does have luck on this show and if nothing else, gets edited fairly.Vision wrote:Just found this website and joined. Wow! I didn't realize how many people were fans of the show!
I've known Doug and his family for a while so I'm excited to see how the season goes. I must say, Doug really is a special kind of guy. Generous, soft-spoken, wonderful with kids (treats my daughter like a princess) and is one of the most fair, loyal, gentlemanly people I know. He's had his share of pain and loss, more than most in fact. He's also had his share of relationship ups and downs. I can't speak as a total insider or anything, but from what I know, his relationship with Austin's mother has been difficult for years. I understand she is married now with younger kids and that might have played a role in her giving him custody of Austin. I'm sure, given the fact they were not married, he never had custody rights even though he may have wanted them. He's always been involved with his son's life, both emotionally and financially. I heard rumors that he even gave up a promising future playing rugby when he found out she was pregnant. Again, I can't vouch for all the details of their history, but I can say that Doug is a smart, handsome, engaging and good person. He deserves a bit of luck with love. Maybe he'll find it here!

Call me naive , but are the TPTB capable of just giving us a straight romance, without just keeping someone for a sob story? We have discussed it here already this season.
Maybe I am a starry eyed romantic but unless Emily is being forced into it, I find it hard to believe she would have kept Doug around this long if there was no possibility of his being F4 or better.
She knew right away that she was attracted to Brad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pvWeeB-OgM&feature=player_detailpage
Jmo :hidingchair , but when you are looking for a soul mate you are not going to choose Ryan over Doug or Chris or "fill in the blank" simply because they live in the next state over vs. across the country. You choose someone because you love them and then work it out from there.

I guess we can get into an existential discussion about what makes someone a "soul mate" vs a "spouse". Has Emily's soul mate even been cast on this show out of the 25 suitors? And is that what she's expecting to find, or is she just looking for someone compatible to love and who loves her back, and who she can build a life with? I agree that if she and Doug both think they have that once in a lifetime, "soul mate" connection, where they can't imagine living without each other, she should choose him and hope that they can somehow sort out the complexities and potential logistical nightmares of their situation. She wasn't able to with Brad, so does that indicate that he wasn't her soul mate? My suspicion is that Emily, as a parent who understands that she no longer is just looking out for herself but for her daughter's best interests as well, and particularly in light of what went wrong with Brad, is going to take a more measured and practical approach to choosing somebody than just going with a "gut feeling", and will look for someone whose life is going to mesh relatively easily with her own, as opposed to being at cross purposes. That doesn't mean using geography as the only factor, but she's entitled to have some deal breakers as well, IMO.

It was Emily who repeated what her mother told her, "It's better to be home alone than to be home and wishing you were alone." I think what I am trying to say is that Emily will not just settle for someone.ironcat wrote:My suspicion is that Emily, as a parent who understands that she no longer is just looking out for herself but for her daughter's best interests as well, and particularly in light of what went wrong with Brad, is going to take a more measured and practical approach to choosing somebody than just going with a "gut feeling", and will look for someone whose life is going to mesh relatively easily with her own, as opposed to being at cross purposes. She is willing to put work into the relationship, knowing that whether near or far, this is not going to be easy.

Vision, when you say that Doug got custody, do you mean that he received full custody as in the child lives with him full time? Do you think Doug would be legally able to move with his son to Charlotte if he and Emily were to hit it off?

Oh, gosh. I'm no lawyer. Your guess is as good as mine!

Does his son live with him full time, or does he live part time with Doug and part time with his mom?
