Bachelor 22 - Arie Luyendyk Jr - Episodes - Feb 26 - *Sleuthing Spoilers*

I think what Becca meant she knew is that she knew he would do something like this. He thinks it's a movie like the notebook where eventually they end up together. Could be the reason why they ended up 7 years in that rigmarole because he pulls off something like this to get her back. He was so sure he will get her back because may be it worked everytime it happened before.

I was totally with Sharleen. I didn't like that Arie told both women ILY even if he believed it at the time. I also saw more between Arie & Becca this episode and more doubt with Lauren. I can see why Arie would feel safer picking Becca but I still don't like it. If he had this special thing with Lauren, he should have gone with it and saved Becca the pain of being proposed to only to pull it away.

I did say, he used his ily’s to get better performance out of the girls in the FS.

Arie has morphed into one Super Ex-Boyfriend, encompassing all of the bad ex-boyfriend traits that made you cry out, "But I did everything right! I’m so confused!" Only later do you realize he was a duplicitous loser who said all the right things at the right time to get what he wanted—the answers he wanted, the kisses he wanted, and, let’s be honest, the sex he wanted. (Last night's episode included the fantasy suite dates; the phrase "talking all night" does not fool me.) He makes women feel like they can trust him when they actually can't, simply because he doesn’t have it in him to be an adult and not use the word love liberally. (On The Bachelor open relationships aren’t an option.)

Though we haven’t seen the finale yet, Arie appears to lack the emotional intelligence to realize that uttering “I love you” over and over again to both women with reckless abandon is not the brightest idea. Satisfying his own urges and feeling good in the moment are infinitely more important to him than avoiding deeply hurting a woman

We keep forgetting that the title of this show we love to watch is called The Bachelor, a word that—while not always—can sometimes be used to define a guy with playboy tendencies, a perpetual ex-boyfriend, someone who is alone with good cause. So when Arie inevitably breaks more hearts and the season wraps, he’ll just continue to be America’s ex-boyfriend…one we’ll be glad things are over with.

It bugged me that he said in an itm that he almost wanted to stop the show and marry Becca right then or some such. That comment made me view him as shallow since he had professed such deep love for Lauren only days earlier. I'm not sure if he is a player, not very deep, didn't know what he wanted, or was just overwhelmed....

Did he mention Becca specifically? I remember seeing that and I thought he said he was ready to marry "her" and I was wondering who he really meant, that it was edited in to imply Becca. I may be remembering wrong, but that stood out to me.

@sparkler he said something about the sand ... so it was implied desert ... but I don't remember the whole scene if there were VOs or not.

...And then editing deliberately left in the paraphrased comment about IF Arie and Becca ended up having a relationship he hoped the ex would respect it and bow out/leave them alone. 
Maybe the ex played a bigger part in the ATFR whether really being involved or just his ghost of a presence being involved.

Hope it is ok to put my thoughts down after all as the answer I got kind of is a combo of all posts above.

IMO, there is no way that Becca didn't know the boyfriend was there and there's no way the boyfriend didn't tell her himself when she was home for HTD. IMO.. There just is way too much that screams a setup and that Becca did know what was going on. IMO, Becca isn't to be blamed for any of it but in no means does that mean that she gets a pass neither. ESPECIALLY if the boyfriend thing is something that she knew ahead of time. She in no way was shocked the guy was there, was definately hamming it all up and just acting to the nines with it all, IMO.

I still feel that Becca was performing, so was the boyfriend and there is really something fishy about the line being left in from Arie about how he hopes the boyfriend stays out of things if Arie and Becca continue. The reason for that line being left in the edit to me means that it did come to fruition and that there may be more of a reason for the switch and in saying that, Becca may not be the innocent that she is coming across as. All IMO

To me this episode was a confirmation of my thoughts about Arie. So the "fun of watching" for me has ended. He has shown just how unrealistic he is, his words to me have no deepth, not the genuine meaning, not for Becca, but neither for Lauren. He is the same Arie before the Bach ... the one who didn't say ILY to his girlfriend ... and suddenly he says it ... because he feels it ... because he understands it ... because he wants it more than ever ... because it's done at some beautiful setting, with candle lights and TV camera lights to highlight the best profile ... and then ...once the TV lights shut down ... the ILY loses its shine.

@Aunties_Love Becca’s ex lives in California. Her hometown was in Minnesota. Perhaps, someone may have told him, production may have called him, but he did not need to hear anything about it since he was thousands of miles away when it happened.

TPTB pulled a fast one on Arie and Becca, standard TPTB fair. JMO.

I rewatched the ex’s visit yesterday when talking to Becca and one thing that really stuck out to me as that she sure has a potty mouth .... they had to bleep her so many times. Don’t get me wrong, I like Becca but she’s becimnig more “hickish” as the season progresses and Lauren definitely seems more cultured and refined, especially in clothing.

I guess tptb could've done some cut and paste in there somewhere, but he said Becca's name at the beginning of the itm in vo, and if it was edited, they did a very smooth job of it. Then he does bring up 'in the sand' which made me think it was said during that date. I know they can fool us, but it did seem to have natural flow.
