As a Nick fan from the beginning and a gal who prefers a clean shaven face for a man I was very, very opposed to him growing out the beard when he first started doing it. But he ended up wearing it so well and now has had it so long that if he shaves it I may have beard withdrawal!

Re: Bachelor 21 - Nick Viall - General Discussion - *Sleuthing Spoilers* #2
I think a little too much weight is currently being given to producers and the storyboard and how they "dictate" the show will end. Events happen, and producers produce and spin those events to their liking. They cannot help if someone actually falls in love, they cannot help if someone decidedly doesn't. It's just how they spin those events after the fact. A good example of producer magic is what happened with JPG. The process decidedly did not work for JPG. So... The producers spun their magic and created gold out of straw and made an entertaining fiasco for all the wrong reasons. Nick's show hasn't even started filming yet. The producers are good, no doubt, at prouducing situations a certain way as they happen, but they aren't all empowering deities who can literally turn something into nothing, ensuring a month before the meet and greet even films that Nick will be dumped at the alter come November. I mean, come on. They are good. They aren't that good.
They've had major dumb luck with a huge streak of successful couples. I think the current trend of couple branding is helping this cause for them. There is a lot of incentive for these people to try hard in their fresh little relationship, where as before there maybe wasn't so much. But... That aside, it's kind of dumb luck for them that Kaitlyn found her Shawn, Jade found her Tanner, Ben found his Lauren, and though it's early, JoJo found her Jordan. The show may want a trainwreck, they may want another engagment. Who knows. It just depends how Nick connects with these girls. It's all still in the future, and a lot is currently out of the producers control. They will just produce the crap out of whatever ends up happening.
And I'm sorry, if what happens is a 4th happy couple in a row, that is GREAT for the show. They need to start embracing and publicizing their current good luck streak. This dumb show that was a joke for years... Is actually kind of working? WHAT??!!

ITA. JMO but in general it bothers me when people assume or insinuate "oh this person has gone all L.A." I don't see Nick moving to L.A. at the moment any different than if he had moved to Houston or Seattle or insert any other place. People make changes throughout life, sometimes different opportunities open up for them, if it is something they have interest in and the chance is there then I see no issue with going for it. Just because someone moves around or tries something new doesn't automatically change who they are as a person. I see the same main characteristics of Chicago Nick in the L.A. Nick.
No, they are not the same. ***IMO***The fact is Old Nick did NOT move to Seattle and would never go to Seattle. And he appeared on BIP after saying that BIP is not for him many many times. Change is inevitable and even most Nick fans would admit he changed.

I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that Nick will meet the right person and move for her. There is very little tying him to LA. He's only been there a little over a year, while single, with no strings attached. For the right person, maybe, just maybe, he'll normalize a bit again. That's my hope for him.

Despite the fact that it would be a huge media generator and they would certainly run with it if it happened, I don't think the producers are dying for a season where the lead gets dumped by his/her F1. The premise of the show has always been that the lead is some sort of prize who all the contestants are madly fighting over (even though since Deanna's season, the leads have almost always been rejects themselves, but now "magically transformed" somehow into prizes). And yes, in more recent years, they have used events on the ground to show that the lead can be heartbroken too (Ashley and Des the most obvious times), but to end the season with the "prize" actually being damaged goods wanted by nobody? I doubt they want that.
And note that so far, only female leads have been notably rejected by their supposed suitors. Has it ever happened to a male lead? I think Nick is safe on this score.

Change ... what is a good one and what is bad? One of my favorite topics. We all wish for the change, but often than not we don't want to change.
Did Nick change? ... yes and no ... IMO, he changed regarding his own acceptance ... that's been my take all along even if some of Nick's chicks disagree with me ... but I do find him more comfortable in his own "skin" (nothing to do with body image) and more confident to just be himself.
Is that good or bad? ... I believe it's good for him ... but I'm also assuming that can be not so great for someone close to him ... because with that kind of personal change come changes in life in general ... and moving to LA is just one of the consequences ... but it also means different approach to things, situations ... including relationships and friendships ... the change becomes the challenge of acceptance.
Self-esteem, confidence and self-assurance is not something that comes and stays always the same ... it's one of the most fragile and the strongest component to a personality ... that can change ... we are born with it I believe ... since we are able to achieve incredible things as children ... but with time, with experiences ... it doesn't stay always the same.
So ... has Nick changed? Sure ... sure some of his views have changed, priorities maybe, his obligations and responsibilities ... but has his character changed, his values, his core system?
Well, in that I see the same Nick. The man with the same curiosity regarding the world around him, with the same empathy and respect for people in his life, with the same passion for challenge and discovery, not taking things for granted and the same dream of deep powerful love.

kimberlyg wrote:See, I'm a fan, and I like Nick... but he is complicated (like, I think people who see the azz and people who see the "good guy" are both right, if that makes any sense). Which is probably what has made him interesting TV so far.
I just really really want them to give him enough 30-somethings (or at least late-twenty-somethings). Both Andi and Kaitlyn were "age appropriate," (as was Julie Berry) and fairly "normal" in terms of looks as reality TV stars go so it's not like he just dates 22-year-old models or anything. But I just worry if they give him a whole cast of like 23-25 year olds.... Although the fact that Luke was 31 makes me somewhat hopeful that they were going to skew older this season (although they didn't really with Chris Soules).
I actually have to defend TPTB here. We remember all farmer's annoying 20 somethings because that was what he wanted. The 33 year old farmer had at least five gorgeous women in their 30s, most we gone by week two. He did keep Whitney and Kaitlyn who were both 29. But farmer enjoyed having the young hotties fawning all over him and was completely insincere in his desire to really find a wife for the farm.
Nick will have age appropriate women, the onus is on 36 year old Nick with who he chooses. I predict a twenty something to keep his LA fame seeking lifestyle. But I have been wrong before and will be again. We will see in November who was right and who was wrong. The bonus for me, if Nick shocks me, falls hard, goes back to a non fame seeking life, then good for me, maybe the man who initially appealed to me is still there.
All JMO.

TPTB will choose a cast of 25+ women.
Of those, maybe 5 will be what is considered "normal". They have sent cast home in the past at the last minute prior to M/G because "they had enough normal cast, tyvm for your time.".
Of those "normal", how many will be "age appropriate"?
JMOAA, but I think it's getting harder and harder to obtain cast of either sex who have traditional employment and lifestyle for the show. It's hard enough for most people to take 2 weeks vacation, more less weeks off work and think a job will be waiting for them when they get back.
Now add to the mix production will manipulate who they would like the lead to gravitate to at the M/G and who they want for camera time.
With that in mind, it's amazing any matches are made on this show.

Yeah, but we have like seeking like. The leads are not really normal people anymore either, so to me it makes sense that we are seeing more common goals. Of the three successful couples from the last three seasons at least one if not both are interested in entertainment/public life in one way or another. Like meeting like. JMO.

Re: Bachelor 21 - Nick Viall - General Discussion - *Sleuthing Spoilers* #2
If I'm remembering correctly, RS said all of the women he's got so far for the season are in their mid twenties, which isn't surprising. It's been the new norm that most of these contestants are in the 24-27 range. They're the ones that are still finding themselves, not tied down to anything, wanting the exposure, etc.
It's not always the case, but I've come to find that most people in their thirties are well put together, so there won't be many going on a reality television show once let alone four times. Age is but a number, but still. IMO

Re: Bachelor 21 - Nick Viall - General Discussion - *Sleuthing Spoilers* #2
I don't see how Nick is going to be TPTB's puppet. On the contrary, I think that is one issue that might be a problem. IMO He will do what he thinks is right for him, he makes his own decisions, and if they are the wrong one's, he's ok with it. He embraces it and admits his errors, as we have seen in the past.
I don't judge him or any other contestant that takes advantage of any offers they get. I would have liked to have half of those offers these contestants get at that age. I was married, raising a son, running a household and divorced by 30.
Nick seems to be the type of guy that will "go for it" and see what happens. There are many times in my life I should have "gone for it" but was afraid of the risk. I should have purchased the $89,000 condo in Florida in 1999 which is now worth a half a mill.
