I must say I didn't react as strongly as everyone else to that video. I felt a little bad for Ashley, but as the youngest sister in my family I would have expected that from my older sisters. As someone said up-thread, family dynamics can be tricky under the best of circumstances.

I actually thought the most interesting part was Ashley saying she was thinking the same things and her sister was saying what is in her head, or something to that effect. Aside from the Brad statement, which is utterly ridiculous, it made me think that maybe Ashely was also wondering if she was 'too much' for JP (or whatever else her sister said to her). Obviously it didn't matter in the end because she loved him, and they are now happily riding a cupcake train to bliss. But I'm wondering if Ashely's reaction wasn't really about what her sister said so much as it was about hearing her own insecurities about her relationship with JP voiced by someone else, which might have made them seem more real than she wanted them to be. Make sense?

This makes me so sad, to see her reaction to her sister's words. How tough for Ash to go through, but how revealing to her about how strongly she felt for JP, too. Her sister should have picked up on this...

I think in the back of Ashley's mind that she felt Ben was the more logical choice for her. Having her sister voice those fears out loud, I think panicked Ashley. It was so mean of her sister to say anything negative without any thought to Ashley's feelings. The sister knew this guy had at least a 50% chance of getting engaged to Ashley.

I wouldn't say she thought Ben was the more logical choice, but maybe the "expected" choice, as he was probably pretty much like every guy she had dated in the past. And I still say if Ashley wasn't really sure she wanted to get married anytime soon, but just wanted a boyfriend, Ben would have been the safer, and I guess you could say, more logical, choice. And I further suspect that if JP hadn't been on the show, she might very well have picked Ben, gotten "engaged", and then just had more of a dating relationship while they slowly got to know each other better. I'd be surprised if it would have reached the seriousness of her relationship with JP by the time the finale aired, assuming they were even still together.

Just the fact that Chrystie thought Brad was better for Ashley meant that Chrystie has a screw loose. Brad is at least 3 -4 yrs older than JP and has significant issues with dating and relationships. JP is much more solid and sane.

Totally with you: I was expecting a fun fling with a cute boy for a few months and instead I got my favorite love story ever. What an awesome surprise this season has been. :27:

ITA with you too, Iron. I'm shocked! Of course Ben was the more expected choice because he has boyfriend potential while JP is future hubby potential. If she had been with a JP-like man before, she wouldn't be on this show, she'd be Mrs. JP-like Man. :D

And at the very least, her sister showed ill manners. Sis may be one of those people with a self inflated ego, who has no filter before she speaks. Ashley seems the complete opposite.

You stated perfectly what was in my head since watching the video. Her sister said that Ashley was bubbly and J.P. demure so she didn't think they fit well. Is that what was Ashley wondering also?

What is the story of Ash's sister? Do we know anything about her? She sounds jealous to me.

Maybe, we know she is divorced and has children. The video was really sad.

I remember when she was announced as the Bette we were all like, well we can at least work on our sleuthing skills because we will be emotionally detached. Holy chit!! this is the best love story I have ever seen, because it's real! I was trying to relay the significance of this season to DH ... this. never. happens. It's never in our faces like this. These two hit each other like a ton of bricks. To be honest, I sense a certain amount of sadness between these two when I watch them. There is so much yearning to get their uninhibited feelings out in the open and it's so obvious. It makes me the viewer feel almost bad for them! It's like a forbidden love at the moment. Can't wait to see how these two act with everything out in the open. Holy moly!!
