Also, I'm very proud of my associate's degree and my bachelor's degree. I don't care if they're compulsory or not. I worked my bum off for the both of those just like I am right now for my masters.

Ash2214 wrote:^ I don't get it. I wasn't trying to compare who had better degrees or who is better, whatever. I was just simply stating that they were both at different stages when they completed the bachelorette. One girl was done with everything school wise and the other was not. Perhaps, if Ashley was already a certified dentist like Andi had her law degree then maybe she would have taken time off too. Who knows.

No insult to a bachelors degree. They are completely necessary, unfortunately, in many fields now you have to have the advanced to degree to get past the initial level.
I was just pointing out that Ashley had chosen a career that made her do a lot of work before hand that helped her know if it would be the right field for her.
Law doesn't require as much, so it seems more natural to me that Andi might decide that she didn't necessarily want to stay with it forever.
Totally her choice and okay either way.
Since Ashley and Andi are two of the few to come through this series to have advanced degrees they get compared a lot. Probably not a far comparison in the amount of pre-training required or in the completion of their programs.
The men with advanced degrees on this series have mostly gone back to use their degrees, though both medical doctors certainly have embraced tv and publicity.
Mia made a lot of sense to me and truly it doesn't matter if or when Andi goes back to law. It is her and Josh's choice. I don't take her words about it too seriously since she has changed her mind about returning to law again. That is okay. As most of you have pointed out, she has opportunities in her life, she may never get again.

When Andi was finished with the bachelorette, she already had her bachelor's degree in communications and her law degree. She was finished. She didn't need to rush back into school or an internship to complete anything. She had her degree and they weren't going anywhere.
IMO, two very different scenarios.
I did quite a bit of research (not really sure why - curiosity I guess more than anything) after Ashley's season ended. At the time she went on TB and then her own season (which required her to take time off) she had completed all of the course work for her doctorate degree in dentistry but she had not completed all of her clinical work that was also required. U of P has a requirement that this work be completed within a certain time frame so she HAD to go back and finish the clinical portion. Her original plan was to live in Philadelphia during that work and then move to NYC but she didn't do that. She moved to NYC shortly after her season's finale aired and commuted to Philadelphia, completed that work and received her doctorate degree. She then decided that she wanted to go into pediatric dentistry and for that specialty needed to complete an internship which she began in Philadelphia; that was what was behind the decision to relocate somewhere between NYC and Philadelphia so she could commute to Philadelphia and JP could commute to NYC.
This was a very different place in the life of Ashley's career than the place Andi was in. Andi already had completed all of her education (and in order to be an ADA also had to pass the bar exam). Ashley couldn't delay her schooling because of the time limit, but Andi could suspend her career for as short or as long a time as she chose.
Trying to compare the choices each made is like trying to compare apples to oranges because they were each in different places in their chosen career path.

Lucas all Universities have time limits and exceptions can be made in all cases and have been made, this is true of the MD, DMD, and the PhD degrees. So Ashley could have delayed if she really wanted to. I know this because our University has a similar policy and also has made exceptions when cases require. Most dental students at least here have finished their class work in the first two years of school. They then spend two years in clinical work. They mostly finish in four years, though some have had to go into the fifth to get the clinical aspects complete.

ETA: We are way off in points in our lives though. I've already worked for more years than before Andi was born.

Now, I am not an expert in all things Andi, so somebody feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't it discussed a long time ago that Andi lived in a pricey apartment and that it was doubtful that she paid for the whole thing herself? Wasn't it speculated that Hy chipped in to pay her rent? If I am remembering this all wrong, I apologize, but this is what comes to mind.
Before I continue on, I will wait to hear if I am remembering correctly or if I am totally off my rocker.

MiaHawk wrote:I think the difference in Andi and Ashley's upbringing and family wealth is a critical factor in each of their decisions---Ashley to continue on and Andi to take time off from work. From what I recall, Ashley was not from a very well to do family. Her sister is the queen of extreme couponing. Andi, on the other hand, has been taken care of by her parents (some say doted upon, spoiled). IIRC Andi's apartment rent was partially paid for by Hy? If she has a financial cushion, Andi may not have the urgency to return to work. She now lives with Josh who has a salary. And maybe she doesn't have loans to pay off? So, IMO, finances probably plays the biggest factor in the decision.
Good memory Mia - I also recall substantial differences in family wealth at least from the standpoint of her family's home (more visible than most if you watched her HTD with Brad).
Also Ashley took time off after her undergraduate work before she went into dental school. Details were always a bit sketchy but I always got the impression that was time she spent sowing her wild oats and deciding just what she really wanted to do with her career, which turned out that she wanted to be a dentist. AFAIK Andi went from undergraduate into law school and then into a job so is more only now really considering her ultimate career path which is something Ashley had already done before she started dental school. Like I said earlier, the thing most common between Ashley and Andi is that they were both The Bachelorette but beyond that, there's little is common.
