Ash2214 wrote:No problem GA. I'm in agreement that he probably shouldn't have tweeted that out considering the Chiefs official Twitter page has responded to a few of Josh and Andi's tweets before, but oh well.

I don't think Josh necessarily thought that Aaron would be a starting QB on a team, but rather would have an opportunity to compete. With Alex Smith signing an extension at a fairly young age it pretty much cements him as the starter for now and down the road, unless something crazy happens. Chase Daniel is next in line followed by Aaron. It will be tough for Aaron to compete for any real playing time. Obviously you can absolutely learn and grow as a player by watching, but it's important to play, particularly when you're young and you need to adjust to the NFL.

With the example of the Pats, our rookie QB will be able to learn from Brady for about four years and hopefully he'll be ready to go. The team apparently wants to make that all possible for him considering we just traded our #2 QB and now the rookie has that spot. For Aaron with the Chiefs, it certainly will not be like that unless something crazy happens. I'm just guessing that it must be tough for Josh to see guys, like the rookie QB on the Pats, get an opportunity like the one he has where it will be much tougher for Aaron to really prove himself as a potential NFL QB. Anything can happen though, so like Josh said in the tweet patience will be a good thing!

Man, I can't believe I'm talking this much about football. I'm a hockey girl through and through laugh out loud

First Alex Smith had one year left on his contract.  He is a productive QB, so it seems pretty natural to sign him to an extension and honestly if you look at QB contracts less than 4 years when Andy Dalton and other QBs are signing longer and higher money extensions it is not that long or impressive.

Chase Daniels is experienced and smart and will never be a starter, but can come into the game and keep control while Aaron is probably too young and inexperienced for that at this time.  With Alex Smith's history, it is actually very critical for the Chiefs to have a ready to go back up that will carry them through a game or two without much drop off.

Alex Smith missed multiple games his rookie season 2005 with injuries, 2007 same thing, again in 2008, 2010 less time missed but still injured, 2012 was injured and lost his job to Colin Kaepernick.  So no, I don't view this as Aaron having to wait a really long time to get a chance, but rather not being put in the hot seat to have to take over for a starting QB who has been injured at least every other year of his career and made it through last year without an injury so might be seen as due.

As for the Patriots, the only time Tom Brady hasn't started is when the games don't mean anything or the season he had his knee injured.  I doubt that his backup will see much playing time this season either.

It was a stupid tweet from an otherwise very media savvy man from a very media savvy family.

Thanks for essentially summing up my post...

Like I stated to you in my other response to your thoughts on my other post, there is nothing wrong with the position Aaron is in. There is also nothing wrong with the team he is on. You can learn in many different ways. Anything can happen to the two other QB's ahead of Aaron. All I'm saying is I understand where Aaron's older brother is coming from, but that doesn't mean I agree with tweeting his thoughts out, but it's not my problem to deal with.

Sorry, we were typing at the same time apparently.

I guess for me, I am irritated at the constant need to defend Josh and Andi. Josh did something stupid. He just did and with his history he should know better. To make excuses for irritates me. He isn't perfect, no one is. So it is okay to say he shouldn't have done what he did without having to justify why he did it. For the average older brother, maybe I might understand, but for a man who played in the professional ranks himself and probably rushed himself off injury too fast and cost himself a long term career it is a stupid thing to post.

^ I don't know. This is the third time now I'm saying that Josh's tweet was dumb, but that doesn't mean I can't somewhat understand his frustrations. This is not to get us off track, but rather to be used as an example, but I guess I just find it to be similar in comparison to many finding Nick stating he had sex with Andi to be stupid, but they understand why it happened because he was in love with her and needed closure. Another example would be Sean and Catherine. Many people found it dumb that they waited for marriage to have sex (I wasn't one of them as I loved what they did) but people still understood why they were doing it.

It's entirely possible to view something as dumb or stupid, but still understand where that person was coming from. It doesn't necessarily have to do with defending anyone.

To quote myself : It was a stupid tweet from an otherwise very media savvy man from a very media savvy family.

The tweet was stupid and I am glad he took it down.

There is a huge difference between calling an action or thing stupid and calling a person stupid.

When we can't comment on peoples actions, why have this board? And this is in fact a discussion thread, so if I did want to call Josh stupid, technically I am allowed to, again and again, if I so chose to.

Aww well I love that Josh is so protective and gets so fired up over his family! Maybe not the smartest to tweet that but the most adorable heartbeat

To me if it reflects badly on his brother who has to be a part of that team and it is not adorable. It is insulting, playing in the NFL is an honor. There are a lot of players that as of yesterday didn't have jobs and would be thrilled to be the third string QB for any NFL team.

Josh and his whole family are much smarter than to insult the team giving his brother a chance to prove himself. I am frankly surprised at Josh for doing it. It does not reflect well on him or Aaron and I am glad he took it down.

Just out of curiosity what did Josh expect Aaron to be ? Did he think he would start or be the second string QB ?

I agree. The tweet was obviously ill advised, and it was just a matter of time before he came to his senses and deleted it. But I can understand where he was coming from.

Right?!? It's a good thing that he's got at least 16 years to mellow out before any potential daughters start dating. laugh out loud

I'd be interested to know that also. A 5th rounder with a recent history of an injury was lucky to get picked at all. It sounds like it's his potential that got him drafted but he's not going to be the go to guy for a long time, if ever. Obviously not a smart tweet from Josh. He needs to learn the art of writing it out and then deleting. I do that all the time.   giggling

Just a guess - I suspect Josh may have hoped that KC would trade Daniel (which was one of the talked about rumors over the last couple of weeks) leaving a spot open for backup QB (thus creating a situation like Ash posted exists on the New England Pats with their rookie QBs). IMHO that might still happen - just not this year, and it could depend on how well Aaron does (and how well he heals) as 3rd string which would be a smarter plan (IMHO) for KC anyway.

I have a suspicion that Aaron knows more about what KC plans for him than is public and perhaps than what Josh knows. Kacie left a job she loved in a good TV market to move to KC which is a romantic thing, but really a dumb move unless she already knew that Aaron was going to make the 53 man roster. If that was unknown she would have been smarter to wait a couple of weeks and see, but I think Aaron might have known and thus Kacie might have known.

Aaron might also know that he is being groomed for the backup slot and that he might get it in the next year or so (if all goes well) and Josh might not have known that. Thus, his frustrated tweet that may have been deleted after he found out there was a grander plan that wasn't all that bad.
