Re: Married At First Sight - Season 1 - General Discussion - **Spoilers**
What strikes me is that, while not one of us doesn't have "some" baggage from our childhood, be it good or bad, I am wondering if it isn't a comment on the people coming forward to do a show such as this. Jason and Jamie are both very guarded and have some problems with their past that has a "hold" on them to a degree. Can't even begin to speak about Mo/Va. I would like to see some nice, normal folks sign up for this.
I never smoked but my entre family did and I hated it. I can't say it would have been a dealbreaker if I didn't know the guy before dating him and getting to know his qualities but if I knew it before hand he would never get a first date. So I understand Jamie's response. I am more puzzled by the fact that in all cases, these so called experts knew of the deep seated problems and still thought that they could make a go of it, with seemingly "normal" folks like Doug and Cortney. I find this aspect very odd but it is good TV.

I was ready to scream with this episode....SERIOUSLY SCREAM!!!! which is something I don't easily do. I got up and went outside stomping around and YES!!! I lit up.... and smoked...
Doug only recently quit and with Jamie's emotional reaction to revisiting her past, it's no wonder he lit up. BUT his mistake was not being honest about it. I understand that. I had a huge fear that when my husband found out I had started smoking...that might cause the end of my marriage. I decided that secret cause too much stress on me and I was just going to come clean. My hubby don't like it, but he understands the reason why... which aren't ANY of the reasons stated in that little statistic blurb.
Doug knows enough about Jamie's past that he should have thought more about how to handle the situation. And they should have taken a step back to figure out if it really was the smoking or the little white lie. However, we were not privy to how she questioned him, only what she said on camera. Therefore we do not know what tone of voice or wordage she used that made him defensive. We only know the edited version, which was waaayyyy over the top.
My impression of Jamie since the beginning has been that, yes, she had a horrible childhood. She has obviously worked hard to make a new life for herself. However, along the way she buried her issues instead of genuinely dealing with them and now she's getting slapped in the face by her own insecurities. Sometimes it coomes across to me and my hubby as "Oh Poor Me!" Does this make her a bad person? NO!, but it does make her a less desirable partner for Doug's life. They are really going to have to work, or they will both end up checking out with a mountain of hurt.
The only things I am going to say about Monet and Vaughn is this... Seeing his Mom visit was good, she seems to be a smart, level headed lady. However, being that way with others and raising a son, are two different issues. I'm again wondering why these two were matched, they are too much alike and stubbornly wearing their chips on their shoulders. I'm not going to say anything else about this couple because they make me want to go "Madea grit ball" on their butts.
At this point I agree with Dr C. that Jason and Cortney may be the youngest couple, but they are the most mature. Jason's hesitation may be influenced by not being comfortable with revealing everything about his life publicly. Can not fault him for that, I have a family member who is a paramedic and the firehouse humor and ethics can be rough. Cortney's patience shows that she really IS ready to care for someone else more then herself. A asset for her is would be in coming from a family of firefighters. She has seen patience and sacrifice first hand growing up.
At this point I'm back to thinking that Cortney and Jason are the only couple with any hope of finishing this year as a committed / married couple.
After the final airing I think the other 2 couples will soon part ways.

It's clear to me that Vaughn's love languages are "acts of service" and "words of affirmation"--I have no idea how Monet shows/receives love (quality time, maybe?), but I think it's always a valuable conversation to have with a partner. Neither of them feel appreciated in their relationship!

Again, I haven't watched, but I am familiar with Jamie from her TPTB time. She keeps willingly searching for something on these reality tv shows without actually working on the issues of her own. I am a child and sister of an addict as well. It is a huge part of who you are and often you need counseling too. Unfortunately, this woman is choosing to look for affirmation in a way that isn't healthy. This show sounds better than TPTB, but should someone with that history and probable co-dependency issues marry a person they have never met? It just seems odd.

That's interesting. After I read your comment earlier, I went back and rewatched last nights episode. Jason talks about having such a tough childhood but never really says specifically what it "is". He says his mom divorced and he has no other family, but it's obvious it's something much more than that. Unlike with Jamie, we know or for the most part what her issues were. I wonder if this is something that Jason will share to Cortney on camera or if it will be kept private. What ever Jason's hurdle is, I hope he overcomes it, he's such a good guy and deserves happiness.

Bummer Episode
I was a little bummed last night. Vaughn and Monet - I hardly even watch their sections. I'm pretty much over them. My husband laughed every time Vaughn brought up picking up his wife from the hospital. Wow! What a guy! My husband would have taken me and stayed there - and fixed dinner that night! He complained that she only made dinner once, my husband said, "Well, how many times have you picked her up from the hospital?" Done...over....they can leave those two out the next 2 episodes!
I was pissed at Jamie at first, but I honestly think she was deeply hurt. I think Jamie has always gone for the hunky guys who only wanted her for one thing. They may have started out nice, and then lied and cheated as the relationship continued. I think she was trusting Doug and this threw her for a loop. To us, it seems insignificant and small, but for her it was the possibility that Doug isn't all she thought he was. I think it scared her and hurt her and she lashed out. I do hope she gets past this. She can be a princess, but I believe a lot of that is just part of this huge wall of protection she's placed around herself. I'm not sure she wants people to feel sorry for her. I think it's been really hard for her to share this stuff with the world. I think she has a need to be in total control so she won't be hurt again. I kinda get it - I grew up with alcoholic parents and I married a man who doesn't drink. If he did, I'm afraid I'd have fears and trust issues with his alcohol consumption. It's unfortunate that these things can creep so deeply into your mindset, but they do. I actually still think these two make it. I think they are both really good for each other and I think Jamie will soften over time. She knows she has a good thing.
Last night was my first night worrying about Jason and Courtney. It concerns me that Jason isn't introducing his mom to Courtney. She has stage IV cancer. I'm not sure if he's in denial or what. It is likely that she's not going to get better, and will just get worse. I just lost my mother-in-law to cancer last year and once it got bad, she left us very quickly. I would hate to think Courtney didn't get to meet her. Maybe there is more there? I'm not sure what to think. Just like Doug and Jamie, I think Jason and Courtney are a great fit. Courtney is super supportive and patient, just like Doug. Previewing next week, the "But..." from Jason worried me a little, but that would be what the producers what, right?
Only two more episodes!

The way Jason said it may not work with his friend is what has me concerned. I don't get why he was all 'smiles' when saying it.
I think it's interesting that we didn't get to see Jamie ask Doug about it. Anyway, Doug defended Jamie on twitter, so that tells me they made up and they didn't show it.

Re: Married At First Sight - Season 1 - General Discussion - **Spoilers**
I have to say Doug and Courtney seem cut from the same cloth. When I watch, I'm thinking where did they find these wonderful people and how did their kind end up on a reality show. Makes me wonder a bit if we're only getting a one-sided view of them to make a good story and couples to root for.
Assuming all is as it seems - they will be such caring, loving and affectionate partners to some lucky people, hopefully Jason and Jamie. Courtney is so well spoken, thoughtful and mature. If they are together as I hope, Jason must really love seeing how tenderly she speaks about him and their relationship in the PIs. And Doug's care for Jamie seems to be soo much what she needs. I just do wonder why her behaviors don't give him some doubts and conerns and if he realizes how much work making a successful relationship with her might be. He seems so good for her. When she is flirty and seeming into him I love them together, but then she also worries me that she can turn on a dime or say unkind things and I worry she could break his heart terribly.
