I see the HTD "distraction" very differently from you and Litta123. If Clare's HTD was intended to be a distraction they would not have shown it last and left the viewers with the final impression of her HTD fixed in their minds.

The impression that the AfterBuzz hosts (and probably many viewers) is that Laura made it an "awkward" date. Just because Litta and I are noticing the striking body language does not necessarily mean "All Of America" is. So it probably didn't matter when they showed it. As Auntie suggested, the F1s often get edited as either #3 or #4 anyway. (Roberto was one of the exceptions.)

To me, Juan Pablo clearly felt at ease with Clare's family...in spite of Laura (Lara?).

One similarity between Clare/Juan and Nikki/Juan is the frequent looking-away in front of the cameras. You see this in four shots above.

In a way, this works in either favor since Nikki told Juan in Korea that "science" proves that girls who are attracted to their man look away. Of course, this may apply to Juan as equally as the ladies. We see HIM looking at Clare constantly as SHE looks away.

I think the reason Juan is almost always beside Clare in group situations (despite her habit of muscling in to that spot each time), is so that he isn't facing her directly. Again... this shot in Vietnam still has me amused. Is he rubbing his eyes because they bother him or is he trying to avoid all of the other "eyes" noticing his blushing?

Obviously their relationship leaped forward in Vietnam (like Ash/JP in Hong Kong, Sean/Cath in Alberta, Des/Chris in Munich) to the point that her crying prompted loooooong sitdowns with additional It's OK's over and over and over. (One reason Andi got sick of It's OK was because there was a lot less emotion behind it when spoken to HER.)

In group dates without Clare, he is frequently sitting by Renee, probably because she was his emotional F2 (and had to be eliminated before things got serious in St. Lucia).

Yes... I know there are the occasional far way shots with Nikki too... like the dark cave scene in Vietnam. (Quick! Grab that shot and post it immediately to Fight Fire With Fire! Ha ha!)

Yes, Nikki/Juan had a longer goodbye on her front porch than he had with Clare at the car -- but he had a make out sesh with her before she walked him to the car.

I like shots #1 and #2 the best.

Also, the actual F1 gets their rose second at the FD stage, just like Clare did this time.  In the seasons since bach 8 and bachette 5 are Melissa in bach 13 and Jef in bachette 8.  All the rest have followed that rule no matter what order their FD came in.

JP may be more relaxed at Clare's house because he's not as worried about making a good impression as he was at Nikki's. It's all subjective.

Also, the fact that JuanP brought sunflowers at Nikki's home and him saying in his blog that they are his favorite flowers is very telling...
He didn't bring sunflowers to the others.

I am sorry, but Renee's and Andi's both had sunflowers in them. Seems the only different ones are Clare's

Litta can you get a screenshot of the JP and Clare going into her sister's home.  You see a silhouette and as they are walking into the house JP goes and kisses Clare before going into the house….

ALso, the flowers were the same on all the HTD's with the exception of Clare's…if you can check if I am right?

Thank you Litta….i just noticed that Clare's entrance from a distance from outside and I noticed he kissed her before entering the home.  Andi was the only HTD that got flowers and chocolates.  (I have 62 inch HTD tv and it was chocolates he brought to Andi's home)….so if we are comparing differences that one also.  But the kiss at the door going in was cute I thought. JMO

To me, the sillouette of Clare/JP going in to the house is very indicitave of other F1's that we have seen in the past.

I think Nikki's bouquet looks the best if were voting on presentation LOL :)Renee's didn't look so hot IMO. Who knows if this really means anything but something I noticed!

So okay…Question (to give us stuff to sleuth etc.) LOL.  So what are some of the things that we use to determine F1?  Rose Order, FD price or nicest room, hot tube or no hot tube, what is said in a blog, who is the narrator, what the lead says and when, etc. etc.   What do you all think the the number one hold true thing that determines F1 and hasn't changed?  I am really interested to see what everything thinks.

I watch the lead. Who is HE chasing, not the other way around. For me, he has been chasing Nikki (GD roses), special gifts, meeting his family, etc.

Ha ha! We USED to think the largest suite went to F1. That is ancient history though. Usually a LACK of rose petals on the bed indicates F1 so that there is less to brush off before makin' with the whooin'...

Regarding rose ceremonies... there is no real logic except after fantasy dates, as pointed out here...

Also, the actual F1 gets their rose second at the FD stage, just like Clare did this time.  In the seasons since bach 8 and bachette 5 are Melissa in bach 13 and Jef in bachette 8.  All the rest have followed that rule no matter what order their FD came in.

Jef in Emily's season got his rose first. Yet the other F1s got theirs second... coincidence? Unless THIS season is like Emily's or some of the pre-Matt ones, then Clare is F1 based on this cookie cutter pattern.

For fun, here's Brad's "video messages" shown in the order he gave roses at that ceremony. Interesting that the F3 is the one with the "problem" regarding fantasy overnight. Needless-to-say I believe Andi's chances to become Bachelorette went up in smoke since her approach was NOT the same as Ashley's here. Brad is upset by Ashley's message, but there is no fight between them... lots of tears with both. Like Nikki, Chantal sounds a trifle... "canned" in her video.
