*No Spoilers* The Bachelor 18 Edit Discussions

There's another confusing scene with Sharleen, in the original preview. We have Sharleen sitting in a chair sitting sideways, looking sad/confused. In another shot, we have Sharleen with her head resting sideways on a chair/sofa with Juan's hand on her forehead, saying something like, "I know it's hard." It looks to be a hotel room to me.

It reminds me of scenes involving Ali/Jake, Jillian/Ed and Sean/Sarah...scenes in Ali's/Ed's case about a decision to leave, or in Ed's case also a decision to come back, or in Sarah's case, a decision to cut her early. It's like Juan and Sharleen are having a private conversation about what's going on...away from the other girls. Why?

Good catch. Yes, Sharlene's journey is not a happy one and there is a possibility that down the road JaunP has to convince her to stay or cut her early because the process is just so uncomfortable for her.

Its all about how the final show is edited and televised to us viewers. The editing tells its own story which may or may not be what occured.

For example, perhaps 10 girls called another girl a "*&^%&^%". However, the editors will show just 1 or 2 girls saying it.
Also, the editors tend to place certain VOs over the face of certain contestants to lead the viewers.

These are common practices to tell their story and what sleuths have found that sometimes that story indicates the ending of the show but at other times they try and indicate the status of the outcome post filming as well.

Obviously sometimes they show scenes in previews etc just to drum up drama for the viewers and in reality there is none.

Don't yank out all your hair, Rolly... *chuckle chuckle*

None of us have all the answers... even long after a show ends. We can only speculate. Just that some voicebytes/faceshots are interesting... and sometimes amusing.

For example, you never see F1 "going home tonight" during the rose ceremonies. Maybe you will see the future F1 standing amidst a trio of contestants when Chris Harrison says "one of you will be going home tonight". ONE in that group... not F1... will be going.

They play these games on us all the time. The camera will START to pan on one person, then move to another before a certain word in a sentence is spoken. So sometimes... you will see the future F1 get "one of you" just before the next dumpee gets "will be going home tonight".

As for the Chelsie business... what got me going is how often the word "girls" and "little girls" is used in that one promo. It is as if everybody is calling everybody else a "girl" as some sort of sign of immaturity. Don't get me wrong. I am sure EVERY lady on this show is "quite a lady"... unless she is drinking the same stuff Victoria was sipping last week.

Here is a thought: What if they are using a modified version of Ashley's storyboard for this season. We have Clare as JP, seemingly jealous and unsure, JP could also be Andi because she is the one most seen "spying" on JotaPe with other girls- don't know how things will end up for them. Sharleen as Bentley- I pick Sharleen because I am yet to see a single shot of her looking mildly interested in anything, the one JotaPe will appear to want but will walk out on him. Don't know who Ben is but whoever she is will be as heart broken and get "compensated' with the Bachelorette position.

It has been reported that the final casting for the Bachelorette will be this weekend, which means that they have her picked out already, and won't be waiting to choose the "audience favourite."

Episode #3 Odds & Ends

… again, don’t read until after you see the episode. Ha! Ha!

Yawn… Juan makes me sleepy. Not sure why. His eyes were drooping during the end of Chelsie’s date, probably because the bungee jumping took more out of him than it did the frisky science teacher, who has enough energy to light up Salt Lake City’s Electric Run.

The funniest moment was early on when Juan was force-feeding Camilla in the park. Girl didn’t want chicken but he shoved it in her mouth anyway. This set the stage for the rest of the episode as he fed both Cassandra and Chelsie on their solo dates, the latter getting Venezuelian cuisine.

Speaking of Cassandra, now we know that the preview line of “never” was a “frankenbyte”. It was not the last time she felt for a guy being “never”, but the last time a guy cooked for her was “never”. Yes, Juan loves to cook... and feed his ladies.

Juan also force-fed a bunch of ladies with breakfast late in the episode. He must think the way to a woman’s heart is through her tummy. At least catching them without their morning make-up, Juan did deliver the funniest line of the episode: “Clare looks goods in piyannas”. (Hmmm… have to think about that one.)

While young mommy Cassandra had her date, we got The Talk between “slightly older” mommy Renee and missing-her-mommy Elise. This once again gave us Elise’s story about her mom’s letter predicting her shot on this show and possibly getting Juan… as a “sign”. Hmmmm…. Maybe... maybe not. They love to test us with all of these “signs”, but which ones count? Poor Elise. She had high hopes that Chelsie wouldn’t get a solo date since she is just a “little girl” (stated ssssooo many times this episode). Naught!

Lots of love songs during Cassandra’s aqua car ride and yacht trip. Lyrics like “home again” and “sweet love will find a way”, along with plenty of Latin music. Are these all “signs” that Cassandra will get to be Mrs. Galavis? Personally, I think the editors are messing with our minds since last season’s F1 got plenty of background music. Body language-wise, I noticed he treats her like easily breakable porcelain.

Yawn… another soccer/dodgeball group date.

Well… it was Juan’s favorite group date. His words. Yet didn’t we have two-too many last season? Recycled red and blue colors. No ambulances to add drama. I had high hopes that Sharleen would get black and blue. Of course, Nikki gets to use the fun word “competitive” more than once… but no injuries. No “balls to the wall”.

While Clare discussed (back at the mansion) about the possibility of Juan slobbering all over the different ladies on the date, Nikki and Andi made a big production about Juan kissing Sharleen on the group date. Ironically, the commercials all acted like it was the “worst kiss” in Bachelor/ette history. Well… it hardly got the soccer stadium lights a-blazing.

However I do think Sharleen was a key frontrunner this episode. He does look livelier with her than many of the others. At least her frost melted a bit into tears at the pool party.

Both Nikki and Juan discussed “fear” in their one sit-down. Key fear is “getting hurt”. Hmmm… Is that a good or bad “sign”? Will have to think about that one. After all, we are being thrown “signs” all over the place. Mustn’t jump to conclusions right away.

Then again Chelsie’s date was also all about getting over “fears”. Bungee jump time! (Hope she had time to digest her Venezuelian meal first. Juan shouldn’t keep feeding these ladies before so much strenuous exercise.) All of this “fear” talk this episodes makes me wonder if Juan is trying to get over some “fear” this season himself… or his F1 has one to get over.

I was surprised that it was Chelsie getting the “she’s fallin’… she jeeza” line that we initially thought was Nikki’s in the promos. They sure like showing Juan’s “fire” get distributed among as many ladies as possible so we can’t identify a key “frontrunner”. There was literally plenty of actual fire shown late in Chelsie and Cassandra’s dates. Good “signs” or bad “signs”?

Thanks Kelad9 for pointing out that Chelsie got called “querida”. Awwwww! That won’t make Elise happy though.

Clare got a “parallel” scene to Ashley’s F1 Jordan Paul this episode. Both were “jealous” and ranted in PI sessions about watching the lead kiss other contestants. Of course, Nikki and Andi also made a fuss during the group date, but Clare added a lot more tears, a full bathroom session with our kind and helpful Mother-of-all-Mothers Renee… AND was shown discussing it somewhat (but not fully) with Juan. You can see she is not… *drink!*… “opening up” to him as much as she should. Is Juan aware of how much pain she is going through?

Clare’s abrupt OMG when competitive “Wild-Kat” got her rose at the rose ceremony already sets the stage for things-to-come… meltdown! Meltdown in the making!

Speaking of the rose ceremony, did I really see ladies’ legs when Chris Harrison said that Juan is “more confident”? Is it another “sign”? Perhaps that Juan is operating from the wrong end in his selection process?

It was surprising that Lucy got eliminated this quickly. I thought she lasted longer in the promos. Christy’s speech when she left was interesting. She accuses herself for not “opening up” fast enough.

Those are not spoilers. As long as you can keep things neutral. I believe the mods have even put non-spoiler guidelines in this section of the site.

Someone said that they are spoiled but read their posts multiple time to make sure their bias is left out of their postings.

However leading unspoiled folks by referencing contestants in a future situtation, dropping clues or even fangirling about the supposed F1 (like what tends to happen each season) should be  please avoided.
[Personally I am here because I hate the fangirling that takes place as soon as the F1 is spoiled   . I know those accused of doing this deny it   but often are the "usual" suspects  :P ].

I was rooting for Chris and I did keep sleuthing in his thread, so it all worked out for that season, but I'm hoping that won't happen again.  On Sean's season, I was reading the ABC boards before the season even started and a poster spoiled Catherine on purpose in multiple threads.

Litta.. Clare was also the one most upset about JP kissing Sharleen while the rest of the girls were by the pool. She left and went to her room. I won't add the SC, but she was the one watching JP and Sharleen.
There is a VO in the previews that lands on Lucy. "She thinks he is her man" Even though it's on Lucy, I feel like that line is going to be about Clare. This is why I brought up her dating history. If she didn't have a boyfriend from age 22-31, it may explain some of her behavior. That should have been a period for a lot of emotional growth. While Nikki might have been a bit negative about Victoria, she tried to help her first, so I give her a pass there. I know I haven't seen much yet, but my impression of Nikki is that she has her act together, so I have a feeling her statement about Clare being "crazy" is going to be correct. Has the crazy girl ever been the F2? We've had crazy as F1- Courtney, Vienna. Can't recall when they've edited an F2 to be crazy.

If by crazy you mean clinging and jealous then yes Moana on Travis's season was that way. She was emotional and upset many times during that season and Travis had to cajole her often.

Everyone see's things differently, but tonight, I thought the one that acted more like Moana than anyone was Sharleen. Trying to get his attention at all times, kissing him in front of the other women, etc. Especially at the pool party. Almost like she was looking to see who was paying attention before doing it.

I didn't have a good first impression of Sharleen, and I was hoping it would change, but it hasn't. She tried to kiss Juan Pablo, and he put up his hand up to stop it, and then looked sheepishly over at the other girls. She didn't like the other girls who seemed desperate for attention , but she is exactly the same way. It was very inconsiderate of her to go in for the kiss when clearly the other girls were watching.

We were actually talking about past F2s that have displayed (and had those edited into the show) those emotions/characteristics. We already have Clare as part of the F2 and therefore it is Clare we were talking about not Sharlene for whom we don't have SCs in St Lucia.

ETA : JBF - what do you think about the difference in his responses to Nikki about the question on his fears and Chelsie ?

Since we have caps of Nikki in St. Lucia, we know she is an important player in this season. But her story with Juan is emerging slooooowly. I don't think Juan and she have even kissed yet, have they? So, I keep going back to the conversation that Juan had with Sean in the opening episode. Sean spoke about Catherine not even being on his radar (not here to debate that) and for Juan to stay open. Was that foreshadowing for the season?

I'd like to know whether that exchange was filmed in order, meaning if the conversation actually took place before the season/filming began...or was it something filmed after, in order to help shape the season's storyline. Are we allowed to ask our SeanCat friends if they know where Sean was at the start of filming Juan's season? Did he make any trips to LA at that time? Since I know they keep pretty close tabs on Sean, they may be able to answer this question. Is that allowed?

They do like to show F1 and the lead have some sort of "obstacle" to overcome. If there isn’t one, they will manufacture one… either deliberately on the show to “instigate” or through the fine art of editing. (Last season, things were too smooth-sailing for F1, so they had to fix The Spoilers and edit Antigua Boo-hoo into the most catastrophic event in Bachelor/ette history. Only the birds and lizards in the trees know for certain if it was all staged for the cameras or not.)

The commercials preceding episode #3 suggested that Sharleen's kiss was somehow "awful", which I thought was strange. Then again, they did look very awkward. (She blamed all of the cameras around, closing in like they did when Arie was kissing Emily.)

In the premiere show, Sean made an issue about him not kissing in front of other ladies.

If Juan does have a final choice and production is struggling a little to keep them together, then this could be a sign that "she" was upset about his relationship with Sharleen in particular (even if mostly seen from a distance). Not sure how many contestants discussed Sharleen, but Andi and Nikki had equal reactions, while Clare went bonkers. This may also account for Sharleen saying she didn't "feel it" with Juan in episode #1, something Nikki noticed right away but others didn’t.

A few more puzzle pieces are falling into place. In episode #1, we didn't see his sit-down with Clare apart from the limited-speaking beginning of it (ditto Catherine and Chris in the last two seasons) but... intriguingly, three ladies were shown trying to observe from a distance. We also got one of the Laurens (dumped at first ceremony) having her emotional meltdown during this time. (All edited in, of course, since we don't know the actual "when" her emotional talks were held.) This all foreshadowed Clare observing Sharleen from a distance and over-reacting like some past F1s like JP and, from the small bits I've seen on youtube videos, Andy's Tessa. Victoria's booze-intoxicated meltdown in the bathroom last week could also be seen now as foreshadowing, right down to the repeating role of Renee playing the comforter.

Now... we can't determine who is F1 quite yet, although you can easily see where my head is going at this point. I really thought Nikki was the frontrunner, but her edit was balanced a little too perfectly with Andi this episode as some sort of ying/yang setup... as if their storylines resemble each other. (Both are doing quite a bit more narrating than most F1s.) One thing is for certain: Nikki and Andi are "calling the shots" and anything Juan does is irrelevant. They are alpha females who will not let "heartbreak" ruin them, although Nikki does discuss her fear of "being hurt" with Juan as some sort of foreshadowing. Nikki also told us in her bio intro that she doesn't just want a head-over-heels love for two weeks, so this will be the deciding factor as to whether she becomes Mrs. Galavis or not. Both have to be feeling "IT" two months after his "this limo is on fire" reaction on night #1.

With Cassandra and Chelsie, Juan was very cautious and protective, suggesting they could be frontrunners. Yet Cassandra already has the "excuse" of her son (explained by Renee on screen) with the prospect that Juan's decision to keep her or eliminate her resides in whether or not he is "certain" and will extend her and Renee's time away from their sons longer than necessary. Sooo... the two mommies will leave on stable terms. Chelsie's only "obstacle" right now is Elise accusing her for being a little girl who wants to play in Camila's sandbox. (Come to think of it, Juan was forcing both his daughter and Chelsie to eat stuff they were unsure of.)

It was filmed before the season started and the SeanCat sit-down with JuanPa was filmed after the first night so not out of order. They were in L.A. at that time and didn't return back to L.A. for wedding stuff until after filming had left for other locations.
