Her F1 (I think it's Brooks) or she walks away and won't settle.
This is a perfect example of self-respect. I hope that she garners some if she finds that her love is not returned by the one she requests.
Call me the eternal optimist (or the naïve fool ) but I believe Brooks will redeem himself, as will Des in the end...and when he gives Des what she needs, she will know it's because it's on his own terms, and not pressure from outside forces.

True. He's trying to think out of the bubble not be overcome by it. He's not trying to follow the norm.

I don't think that Brooks' lack of verbalizing the three little words to Des that others have uttered shows unwillingness to commit at all. Chris H is the one driving home the "lack of committment theme" even though Des has said she doesn't need that from him at this point. Brooks himself told us at the end of his HTD that he had gotten the approval that he needed and excited about where things were going and felt closer to matrimony than he ever had before. I think it is wrong of us to jump on the ChrisH train and just automatically assume that Brooks leaves because he got cold feet and wasn't committed to Des and the other two were and she therefore shouldn't take him back and should choose one that will be there for her. Not if she is not in love with them! We don't know for sure what happened. We strongly suspect that something happened that created an impasse for them. I just don't see how it could move from what was seen in SLC to Brooks going to her in Antigua and telling her that he's thought it over and he's just not that in to her or has decided that he's just not ready to make a long term commitment. Nate could cause the problem by saying that the family doesn't give their blessing. Family approval was very important to Brooks with his family. I would find it hard to believe that he wouldn't find it important for her family, as well.
That freaky preview was designed to make us believe that she was walking away alone. Maybe the edit has been to totally throw us off as well. And, they are going to continue to throw doubt at us until the very end.

Veg, your post and this comment reminded me of the early preview that had Des saying something to the effect that she wants a man who will stick through the tough times and never give up. I think there was discussion when it aired that it could be foreshadowing that Des will reject a guy who leaves but then tries to come back.
You're 100% right, but when it comes to end of the show emotions, ALL reasoning will fail. She had made solid decisions throughout the season, now comes a prize/challenge hard to get(Brooks). Psychologically speaking, the harder you work for something, the better it tastes. MF plays psychological games with these people.
I believe that the conversation Des has with Drew on the beach is about Brooks leaving and she'll be honest with Drew about it. Remember Drew's theme is HONESTY and TRUST. He'll appreciate her honesty, but Drew will have a difficult time swallowing it, and trust that Des can be there for him 100%. I think Drew is very protective, and the voice of reason for Des, even though he looks like a boy and is too far gone into Des, himself. He is very responsible and caring. Those are his traits from having to grow up quickly. Des is too far gone into Brooks-It can only be Brooks or nobody.
Again, you are correct-the only 2 who were there for Des were Chris and Drew. The future after the show will tell whether Brooks/Des foundation is strong, or they'll break up like everyone else. My opinion for my experience is that IF things aren't right from the beginning, it's only a matter of time that the monster( Brooks' lack of commitment) will rear its head in real life. But I wish them luck. They make a nice couple.
I like your post. Except for the fact that she did have an option to pick the nobody. Yet she carried on after Brooks sat in that limo.
That itself should saying something basic about her.
I am super curious to hear what exactly went down at that Verandah pier. And why, if he showed her some hesitation with the process did she not hug him and beg him to continue in the hope that he would come around ? He was pretty distraught talking about the worst day of his life etc. no changing things etc. so that tells me that it is not him that put himself in that limo. For him, it was just a conversation that they are not on the same page. But Des seemed to have pulled the plug. If it was he that did it (dumped her) himself then we would not have been shown an angsty Brooks.
So what does that say about her that she actually continued the "show" with the 2 other men knowing that she made the decision to cut Brooks and then presumably take him back at the end ? That makes no sense to me at all and brings everything into question. Sorry guys but it just does.
I agree with you about "taking him back". I wouldn't only because I know NOW as I'm older, and EXPERINCED, that things like that do NOT work out in real life. That's where the 6 months max dating after the show comes in.
I always try to remember that these people are much younger than I am. My life experience has taught me a lot, the hard way! So it's easy for me to see what is going on and the warning signs for Des and Brooks. I absolutely agree that if it has to be that complicated and the guy bails and then comes back, it usually doesn't work out. When it's that difficult and you have to work that hard and someone leaves and then comes back, it's just an indication that it was not meant to be. Now others may see it quite differently. The other argument could be that if they can surmount these obstacles, then it will stand the test of time. But given how quickly everything happens on this show and how difficult it is to really know each other in a compressed period of time, then I do think this kind of struggle is indicative of a relationship that won't make it in the long term.

I know. I just can't wrap my head around how we go from that HTD to him appearing to meet up with her for their FD and bail in some way. And then further that they reconsider somehow after how hurt they both look. I really can't come up with a scenario for this that seems satisfying to me as a fan of theirs. I guess just have to wait and see.

If I were Des I would not want that to matter. He should say ILY and mean it deeply and fully, not because he is worried about the others.
