It was only afterwards that he said that he was never really himself around her, and that they would not have worked well together. Which is fair enough - many contestants fall in love under the "Bachelor spell" and realize afterwards that they were never in love.
Sean also said that he and Emily agreed in the fantasy suite he wouldn't propose at the FRC, they didn't think their relationship was ready. What we hear them say on the show isn't always what they actually said (Frankenbites), or they are saying it to fulfill their contract and help TPTB put on a show. Keep the audience guessing! People considered "good guys" and "above it all" like Chris Lambton did the same thing, as have many others. They understand it's just a tv show (that occasionally results in a real love match that lasts longer than 6 months, but that's not the point).
We don't know what's real, what's scripted, or what was edited together. They can show someone answering questions about an ex-girlfriend or a hypothetical fiancee and edit it to make the audience believe he's talking about the Bachelorette lead. Trying to figure out what was real and what was fake is pretty much impossible, so I don't take anything said on the show as the whole truth.
I always been one of Sean's biggest cheerleaders, but I have to say I don't agree with your comment, per the bolded. Never, ever did Chris Lambton tell numerous girls on a TV show that he could see a life with them, that he thought of them as his best friend ( since Sean said he wanted to marry his best friend) tell more than one girl he was crazy about her. ECT... I don't mind seeing Sean built up, BUT let's don't tear down another guy just to do that. I think even Sean would frown upon than. : (

Chris would have done the same thing if he hadn't turned the Bachelor (& I'm a big fan). All the leads do something like that and it doesn't mean a thing other than they have a show to put on. My interpretation of what terabitha meant was that Chris as f2 talked about Ali being for him. She clearly wasn't as he's said since plus it's also come out that he was probably going to be f3 until Frank left so is no surprise that the feelings weren't as strong between Ali & Chris as the other 2 guys.
Having said that it's perfectly fair to criticize the leads for what they say to the bach/ettes but we may as well also criticize the show because that's never going to change. Leading someone on equals drama in the producer's eyes.

I agree with everything you said Albean!
I recently read a post-finale interview (can't find it now!) with Sean and Cat where they asked when they knew or when they first fell in love. Sean referenced that kiss in the courtyard when they were still in L.A. after learning that he was not in Cat's friend zone. We also heard Sean say that he gave her the snugglesville note on plane to St. Croix, when six other women were still there. Finally, CHris has recently said in a tv interview that he could tell Cat was the one for Sean because he "lit up like a CHristmas tree" whenever she was around.
So ... this is really leading me to believe (and maybe I am just in my own little happy place) that Sean was treating her differently and felt for her differently early on, which is why he was able to propose to her with no doubts (and why Cat had hidden edit for first few shows).
But ... as Albean and so many have said, he had a show to lead and women to "lead-on" until he could finally come clean in the end. Happens every season!

That's surprising to me, I've never heard him say that before. Do you remember what interview that was?

I lump all reality tv stars into fame whore category. IMO one isn't better or worse then the other. Some are more refreshing and likable but that doesn't change that they want money and fame... which is fine. I don't take anything they do or say seriously though, and that includes a TV engagement.
Anyway, if I were to ask someone who doesn't know who Sean or Jake are but ran down the stats regarding their "careers" with ABC, it's hard to deny the similarities. A Tierra and Sean showdown on BP would be interesting. At least Sean was smart and picked the one everybody liked.

I like Sean, but much of what he says sounds repetitive and scripted to me. I always root for love, but I'm skeptical.
I laugh when people say Catherine needs to be secure in their relationship, what relationship exactly, the one that Sean didnt lift any finger to get into? besides the proposal, a relationship that he didnt spend any dime on? No sacrifices, no real life investment.
For someone who didn't invest any effort in wooing and 'winning' his girlfriend/fiancee, the relationship has not even begun in the real world/ in any world for that matter . He is not a regular man who has to work 12 months to earn his intended's engagement ring or produce blood, sweat and tears to afford a wedding. He has no real investment in this relationship. All he has to do is propose and ABC did the rest. So there was really no relationship foundation to speak of.
Im wary of a man who didnt do anything hard for a relationship. Easy come easy go. But, knowing Sean who is so image conscious, he will not even go there (break up or broke the engagement) This is the guy who can easily fall in love with any number of women and make a 'connection' without sexual contact. He has mastered that. So joining DWTS is not only courting disaster but showing us where his priorities lie.
Money can be earned but time cannot be earned back. And he decided to spend it with DWTS/Peta than truly knowing his fiancee before this wedding that ABC will shoulder after all.. I dont know, where I sit it seems that he is way more in love with opportunities and the limelight and protecting his own image than any woman he claims to have fallen for. There was a glimmer (of falling in love, or something close to it) when he was watching himself propose to Catherine, but now is its being drowned by all the attention that he is enjoying immensely (contrary to what he says).

Time will tell what his motives are. BUT if someone offered you $100,000 to dance for 4-5 weeks I think you would be smart to say yes. If he hadn't done that they would have been back in Dallas (most likely) and he would have been working -8 hours plus. This way he may still have to work 8 hrs a day but they could take time off afterwards, maybe for a year or more. What a wonderful gift they have been given.

They are gonna be paid for their own wedding, I dont know if its a million or close to that. Trista was paid $1M for her wedding.
Sean didnt spend one dime to be with Catherine. I mean what are you gonna do with $100,000 with a broken engagement
?. But, its all moot cause he's already dancing/prancing around for whatever amount.
Molly Jason, Ashley and JP seemed to be doing okay, without any help from DWTS. The thing what is he gonna do if all the money is gone and he cannot earn easy money through abc anymore? As I said, money can be earned but time that can be used to really invest in the relationship, can't be earned back.

From the time it as announced he was joining DWTS those thoughts cross my mind. We all know all it is is 15 minutes, No more no less.

1) I've never heard him say that. If you say that's what he said, I believe you, but I would love to see a source.
2) I disagree. Not all leads do that. All leads makeout with multiple contestants, say leading statements, but not all leads say "I love X, Y, and Z" and/or "I can imagine myself marrying X, Y, and Z". In fact, I think many contestants (Ben, Brad, Ali) knew who the ONE was from day 1, and only said phrases like "I am in love with", "I can imagine myself marrying" for that one person. Again, producer manipulation is very real, but I think that even Sean has admitted that he was very indecisive, even towards the end.

wow, i had no idea they even get paid for having a tv wedding let alone how much. i do hope sean will stay grounded with all that is happening in his life. i have to say i don't think his life will be like it was before doing the bach/b'ette like shay suggested. if i had to guess i think he will take up some opportunity that comes his way after DWTS is over. i hope whatever he does he chooses wisely.

I don't think the network/dwts cared about seeing those people on TV after the bachelor/ette though. Correct me though. I took a break from the forum and didn't follow Ashley/JP, Ben/Courtney, Emily/Jef very closely. Also, on the bachelor Jason didn't spend one dime on Molly, she wasn't even his first choice, does that make him as sleazy as Sean?
I don't think Molly/Jason or Ashley/JP made anywhere near 1million. I hope they did though, why not?!
If Sean/Cat are truly in love the media exposure/whoring (like everyone else has done on this show) won't break their relationship.
