I have no problem with Sean taking offers right left and center PROVIDED he does not lose himself, his spirituality, his loving nature, his relationship, by letting it go to his head. He would profit nothing by losing his soul. So I pray protection and wisdom for him and Cat. I adore them both and really hope they survive the media onslaught and the fame.
^^ This. Everyone who comes on this show has some level of an adventurous spirit, and don't mind some of the fame that comes with it - even people like Roberto and Kip are still recognized and bring in tons of money for charity, and that's all due to their appearance on the show. In the end, my involvement with SeanCat begins and ends with seeing (if) their relationship succeeds... if not, it's none of my business. I'll squee over the cute pictures while it lasts, and feel bad for them for a day or so if it doesn't. I hope for their sake that Sean does not lose his likeability with the general public or miss out on a great girl, but if it happens - well, things like that happen every day in the world, the difference is that we don't know about it. So I'll wish them well and move on. With any luck, they do last, however... and I'm sure that if they do, it's because all these fame-seeking endeavors have been approved by Cat before being taken on.
Yeah, I don't get why she's not getting more of the blame here for the Hydroxycut and DWTS and famehoing issues going on with Sean? It's very obvious she's 110% supportive of his decisions and probably was instrumental in the majority of them. Not that I mind, if they want to take advantage of these opportunities, that's fine with me, I love 'em anyway. I would worry for them if it seemed like they were on different pages but these two are writing the freaking book together at this point.
I can only speak for myself, but I have always said that they BOTH are enjoying the attention, the perks, and the money. In fact, I would even go as far as to say that I think this engagement is just a "try out" for Catherine (like she said in the hometown dates), and when the fame starts to fade, their relationship will start fading too. I don't know where the "she's so wise" comments are coming from - I would never quit my job to follow a guy compete for a dancing competition, and I would never quit my job to go on a reality TV dating competition.
Again (and I hate that I have to keep repeating this), Cat was my favorite on the show and I was rooting for them the entire time. However, what I have seen post-show doesn't indicate any deep love, but a mutual interest in fame and money. I hope they prove me wrong.
I'd never go on the show period but if everyone felt that way there wouldn't be a show. I do think if I fell in love on the show enough to get engaged I would move. Catherine's career appears to be portable so she can find something wherever she lives. I don't get the feeling that this couple is pulling a Jake/Vienna. We all knew at the end of that show that it wasn't a love story. It's subjective but I do think this one is real and money will get them started. Chris, Jillian, Melissa all have shown that living where you want and being on tv are not mutually exclusive. I guess time will tell.
Wait a minute. Melissa is hardly the selfless angel and is phony enough to have more in common with Jake/Vienna than she does with Jillian and Chris.

Comparison to Jake and Vienna - as much as I dislike them on my screen etc. I actually believe there was a bit of a relationship there - they were enthralled with the image they had of each other while in the bachelor bubble.
I do think Cat cares in a deeper way than Vienna and thinks right now that her and Sean can have a wonderful future. As they spend more time together she may see some differences she hadn't accounted for yet. There's a reason Dear Abby used to recommend knowing each other at least a year before an engagement and it seems like she recommended a six month engagement. That may be old dates, but knowing each other at least a year seems smart to me.
I am disappointed in the Hydroxycut - unless he has a personal success with it. It doesn't have a great reputation and that will be an influence on him. Not sure if "stars" can advertise a product they haven't tried - seems like there was some consumer laws considered in that area but not sure if they were ever finalized or where they apply.

I don't think there is a timeline on how much you can know someone. I think they already know a lot of each other maybe even more than a lot of couples. They have spent hours and hours being cooped up in the safe house. They probably have talked on just about everything.
And one day I turned around and looked back and saw that each step I’d taken was a choice, to go left, to go right, to go forward or even to not go at all. Every day every man has a choice between right and wrong, between love and hate, and sometimes between life and death and the sum of those choices becomes your life-Jamie Fraser

I'm curious, what do you guys think of couples with different political beliefs? Is it that big of a deal?...Cause I wouldn't be able to do it.

my guess is that it probably depends on how important politics is to both people and how strong they are in their views. someone who is a moderate conservative probably wouldn't have too much trouble with a moderate liberal. also, if one person just doesn't care that much about politics i doubt they will be too bothered if the other has strong views that are different from theirs. some folks like to talk or argue politics a lot while others could care less so i think it really depends on what place politics plays in one's life. also, how one talks about it is key. if one or both person wants to argue about it and get personal then the other may have a problem with that, but if they are both cool (able to calmly discuss) their views then it doesn't have to be a big deal. jmo.

Don't put words in my mouth. I like Melissa although didn't call her selfless or an angel. She does appear to be happily married and they're living here in DFW these days.
Re: political views. First of all we don't know how much into politics Sean & Catherine are. Many younger people don't care all that much. 2nd it's probably not fair to make the assumption that they differ based on her being a vegan from Seattle and him being religious in Dallas. They may surprise you. Even if they are on different sides politically it doesn't have to be a problem. I know a couple on the extreme opposite sides who just don't talk politics together anymore. Dallas has a lot of people from all over so there are differing views. I usually keep my mouth shut but do have a group of like minded friends that get together for coffee once in a while. We could invite Cat but she'd think she was with her mom's friends.

Interesting question. It's funny, my hubby is Jewish and I'm Christian and it's hardly ever been an issue at all in 25 years. However, politically, we're very much on the same liberal page. Perhaps that's what makes the religion part easy for us.
Given how polarizing current politics are in the US today and how much time one spends with their spouse, I hate feeling this way, but I don't think that I could be married to someone on the other side now. Politics and causes are a big topic of conversation in our home and sometimes determines how we spend some of our time and money so it helps that we think somewhat similarly.
With my friends and family who have different political views - we have healthy debates/discussion or, in some cases, avoid the topic all together.

Funny you ask. When hubby and I met 19 yrs ago, I was extremely to the left while he more to the right. I grew up poor, while he had a more affluent upbringing. Today, we both have moved a little bit to the middle - but he is still a gun-carrying Republican whereas I oppose everything that has to do with guns. Marriage is compromise and we've agreed to disagree and not to discuss anything in our household that will incite the other. As time went on, surprisingly however, we have agreed on several political views that we've disagreed on in the past. I think we've both become a little more open-minded towards each other's political beliefs.

I do think that agreement on how you spend your money is important on the front end of the marriage. Different political views is one thing, but there are certain causes that could break the "peace" of a home when giving against another's principles. I do not have issues with my friends on the opposing side of the fence...I do have issues with certain mainstream causes they support. I just keep my oposing opinion to the cause and not the person. It can be done.
