THOUGHTS FROM THE UNSPOILED AND ELDERLY

My inlaws are staunch B/B'ette fans who live in the mountains with no internet. These two usually have different picks throughout the season and I would occasionally discuss with them during the seasons I get invested. We started with Andy and Tessa's season and here we are ~10 years later, having conference calls on Tuesdays to do our own recap. (I edited some of our conversations and MIL editorials that can confuse people)

Me: Who do you think is F1?
MIL: Not Catherine.
FIL: Catherine (he's Filipino so he's biased towards his favorite).

Me: Mom who do you think is F1?
MIL: It's hard to decide right now, I think it's the wedding gown girl
Me: Lindsay.
MIL: Yes but the pretty girl with the high cheekbones I think could be F1 too. She is very matured.
Me: AshLee.
MIL: But certainly not Catherine (not sure if she's egging my FIL)
MIL: I would say Desiree but I think she's going home next week because of the brother

Me: Who's going home next week, Dad?
FIL: AshLee
Me: Why would you think that?
FIL: Too clingy!

Any thoughts on Tierra?
MIL: She's an egomaniac and a spoiled brat. She can't seem to form coherent sentences and kept on contradicting herself. (Of course MIL will catch that because she was a University Linguistics professor)
FIL: Pffft!

Any thoughts on Lesley?
We had a long discussion on this, because I think they liked her a lot (of course she lives in Wash DC) and found her intelligent and deserving to be Sean's F1. They think Sean made a mistake.

OK, not sure what this proves, but the unspoiled out there are confused!

I know that the word malleable has been mentioned here on this board, and sadly I am beginning to see what they are referring to. Sean may be too affable for his own good. It has been said that he is one of the best Bachelors that the producers have ever worked with. But I have been disappointed in a lot of things, especially with almost all of the dates and date locations, with the exception of a few.

I liked Canada and St Croix, but once again many of those dates were just blah for the most part. It seems like most of Sean's dates have contained a lot of physical activity and very little interaction between him and the ladies. I am seeing very little substance with any of his relationships. I get that he likes the outdoors and a lot of adventurous activity, but this season has reminded me more of a competition than a dating show.

I am confused by the edit that they are giving Sean. I just don't know how he goes from only wanting to propose to just one woman in his life to actually proposing in such a quick turnaround. He admitted that there was no one woman in St Croix who stood out more than the others. Right now I am just not seeing enough here to warrant a proposal to any of the remaining four women.

True that! It gets hilarious sometimes as our conversations can go off in tangents. But fun nonetheless!

Longhornfan, join the club of the "confused" but still on the train. Anyway, as self-help for us, Love started the "Body Language" discussion thread. In lieu of Sean's short quips, and "I'm crazy about you!" statements, we started looking for clues beyond the obvious. You may want to join us there and perhaps get back on the train.

I believe it. But think about what that means and what their criteria for "best" would be. It certainly does not match what my criteria are. Just out of curiosity, where did you see that?

Hi Northern - I wanted to address your statement in case it helps clear up any confusion. Of course everyone is free to believe what they would like, but in this instance, the way this scene played out is actually how it happened. Sean had every intention of bringing Tierra to meet Shay who was indeed ready and waiting on the beach. It was only after so much time had elapsed and Sean returned alone that Shay knew anything at all had transpired. HTH.

I couldn't begin to tell you exactly where I read that, but I THINK that those are words that came out of Chris Harrison's mouth. I don't do twitter, but I also get that idea from twitter (posted on this board by other people) that those are the feelings that the producers and pretty much anyone associated with the show have about Sean.

By "one of the best Bachelors ever", I meant that Sean was easy to work with and was well liked and respected by everyone who worked with him during the filming of his season. This is something that seems to be repeated over and over. And I think that that is also a reflection on some of the more difficult Bachelors in past seasons as well. So, bottom line, I think that it speaks more to Sean's character and overall demeanor. And, yes, the word "best" would be subjective. But then maybe the producers really do think that Sean is (was) the best Bachelor they ever had on the show ??

After reading Shay's blog last week, I really think Sean is doing a great job "making a show" in addition to falling for Catherine. He seems to have no problem with alcohol, swearing, showing off his body (which Shay says is just poking fun), and keeping producer picks around. And that's fine, TPTB have a show to make. I've wondered if his conversation about not having a front-runner was just part of the storyboard...and he waited to tell his sister his real feelings until the cameras were off and they were just hanging out before the rose ceremony.

I just sincerely hope that if he proposed, he did it with good intentions and is trying to make it work with his F1. I've watched his interview with Priscilla Shirer and I think he's a great guy with a good head on his shoulders, starring in a show that almost completely contradicts his "real" life.

I also took note of that comment and I can understand where he is coming from. I think Lindsay has the same belief, as the picture below was the first verse of Scripture she posted on Instagram

I always am hopeful for something different and more sincere from the leads, but I am surprised when I actually get it. So far ... getting what I feel I should have expected.

I see "something" with Catherine but at this point in time in the filming, either there wasn't all that much there, or TPTB have left it all on the cutting room floor. I am started to get worried it could be a "fake" ending agreed to by people who like each well enough, but am still hopeful we might start to see something more real.

As others have noted, Sean says the same very encouraging things to all the women. He isn't very readable. That must be very hard for the women, although I'm sure the producers were happy.

Just give me something that looks like a real love story to help me escape into my own version of fantasy for a while. And maybe against the odds one of those stories will actually survive real life. Nothing wrong with a little hope, right?
