Actually, I'm not sure why anyone would want this position - pretty sure it's not to find the 'girl of his dreams'. That's one of the major reasons that so few relationships have worked out (imo). Everyone goes on with another agenda other than love and if they do find 'love' it's somewhat of a by-product.

Interesting that you see the two of them that way. I kind of feel the opposite. IMO, Arie is the one who would benefit more from the bachelor gig, and I just got that feeling mid way in the latest bachette season as well that this was what he was after. From what I have read, he is the son of a successful driver who has not really achieved the same level of respect or stature as his dad, and he is getting a ton more attention after his stint on this show, which could lead to better opportunities. No brainer.

Sean, on the other hand, was just a "guy" with a regular job who went on the show with seemingly no ulterior motives. Maybe that will, or has changed, but being the bachelor will not lead to the kind of opportunities that are likely to go Arie's way due to where they both began. Period.

But, realistically, it could be a disaster for either one of them (or for that matter, whichever victim is picked for the next show) because it sure does seem like the typical arc of - build them up to tear them down SAVAGELY - is the fallout from being on this show. I honestly don't understand why ANYONE in their right mind would put themselves through this unless they were hoping for some big payout in the end, and I'm not talking about love, but celebrity and fame.

Sorry, feeling a bit jaded now. Watched this past season believing and hoping for a love story and instead of celebrating that and encouraging it as an example for future "contestants" (ie suckers), we see the press tearing at them and trying to ruin the love story - for what - magazine sales... pathetic.

Good points! But I always go back to what Ryan said on the after the final rose with Brad and Emily. If you knew that you would meet the perfect person for you, wouldn't you be willing to go through all it took to get to be with that person? (I am paraphrasing - I forget what he exactly said). I think Ben has said it too, and I think Ben had it worse than anybody - he said in an interview that if he could have gone back and met Courtney in a different way, then he wouldn't have done the bachelor, but because this was the way he met her, he was glad that he did it and didn't regret doing it. I do believe that it produces true love stories sometimes - ones that can withstand the media pressure if the people are strong enough.

Well I was called jimmy neutron so it didnot and does not offend me one way or the other. However on a day when threads are locked because everybody knows why, that picture post is certainly a subtle jab. Imo it is provocative. Only the poster knows if it was intended that way!
