Re: Doug Clerget - Bachelorette 8 Contestant - Thread #1
Just want to add that emily is looking for the package deal:
handsome
father material
money
class act
strong values in family
a partner
someone she can rely and speak with
lets not forget that emily has a strong personality behind her all outside sweetness. She knows what she wants and the reverse.
Somehow I think she will fall for a man who will compromise a lot. Being a father is not a plus or a minus but it sure put the guy into the "knowing" position. She constantly said: being a mom is not easy. being a mom is not always roses, being a mom is #1 place
so who better than a dad can understand that? But I keep an open mind to say that it is not mandatory. A man can certainly have the father fiber :)

"Reality television frequently portrays a modified (...) day-to-day life, at times utilizing sensationalism to attract audience viewers and increase advertising revenue. Participants are often placed in exotic locations or abnormal situations, and are often persuaded to act in specific scripted ways by off-screen "story editors" or "segment television producers" with the portrayal of events and speech manipulated and contrived to create an illusion of reality through direction and post-production editing techniques." ~ Wikipedia |

He's cute but did they say Wharton? Emily is as cute as she can be but I cannot see her in certain circles - definitely not in a circle of Wharton grads. Yes, I think she needs a somewhat older, established southern guy who doesn't need a partner but more of an arm doll he can buy nice things for but not expect her to say much. Her southern charm might not fit in so well in the Pacific NW with women who work at big companies like Microsoft, Starbucks and Amazon.

Yes Emily did not/has not gone to college, but that does not make her dumb or stupid. I'm sure she has been around college educated people or people who work at big companies and can have a conversation with them.

Going to college doesn't make you smart and not going doesn't make you dumb. Through all of her edits, Emily doesn't come off as being very worldly or articulate. It's not intelligence but exposure. These contestants get to travel all over the world and for some, that is an opportunity to be open and try new things. Yet, I recall Emily tweeting how she ate apples and peanut butter in Costa Rica because she was scared to try any of the food. I'm sure she's not boring and with the attention of 25 potential suitors, I'll bet she'll southern belle it to the nines. My point is that, education or not, it's hard to talk about things if you haven't been anywhere or done anything. There are tons of single moms out there. That is definitely not as special as the bachelor, single dad winging it on his own - which turned out to be a lie too.
I'll watch but there is nothing about Emily that has impressed me thus far ... not her GCB good looks, not her tragic, baby daddy died story, not her CV to date ... I'm sure she'll satisfy most of America ...

I was not a big fan of emily on brad,s season but I think it will be interesting to see all those males just fighting for her.
Personally I do not see the physical attraction. Yes she is pretty but for me beautiful means Chantal. Emily is a false blond, has huge teeth and unless she corrected herself used "you know" on each sentence. She knows how to use her smooth voice, her ego must be as big as the empire state building with fleiss and all the magazine putting her on a pedestal and if she is still humble, then I think she could be the exception of the rule.
Am I happy to see her as the next bachelorette? not particulary. But I am not unhappy either. I think again it will be interesting to see all those males completely nuts about her. Do I find her smart? no. Do I find her pretty? sometimes. Am I dying to watch her? no. Am I looking for the hunks? definitely!
Since she is no angel and we all found out that after the finale with brad when she rebelled about how the edits portrayed her. I am very curious to see if she is going to be boring or if she will show a funny personality. So far I saw her very very cold and not at all touchy-touchy so I am curious to see how she will handle all those guys wanting to kiss her. And that is why I am happy to watch her. It will be interesting to dissect the physical attitude. I think I was not at all attracted when she let ABC to use nascar to portray her as the sad sad lonely widow looking for love again with this huuuuuge fake group date.
Regarding the culture, I think that a lot of american never went out of their own state. I used to work for a huge well known american company in europe. I was in charge of the expatriates and met hundred of them... some asked me if we were using toilet paper in france (well DUH of course not we use newspaper!!!) and it was very serious not at all a joke... some told me that they spent hours to figure it out how to put a coin in the grocery caddy which is very common to avoid them stolen (you just put a coin on top of the chain and the caddy is free to go)... you would not believe the questions I was asked and they were all pretty candid...
I sure do not want to criticize american only... I am sure the same number of canadian never went out of their state either. My meaning is that with the era of internet, I do not find it an excuse to do not try to learn outside of the box. no need to have degrees to be cultured. everyone can go to the library or internet and read. period.
Emily did not impressed me but again the edits were so huge on her that she looked the perfect dumb blonde. I cannot say that Chantal was better really. Her tears were tiring after a while but I liked her better physically. But for emily's defense, she was loved by all the girls in the mansion so that must means something.
This show does not show them smart. No matter if you are the bachelor/ette or the guests. they show us some dumb conversation or dramas. so it is part of the evil deal to watch reality TV.
I would understand to be warry to eat in thailand as they eat bugs but I am almost positive that in each mansion, they do have american food available. Do they have some tourist book of the country available since they do not have internet access? I sure hope so.
So emily? why not. It should be interesting and since I really love hunks, I will be happy.
go go go Doug!

Well, frankly my reaction to Doug is YUCK. I don't find him good looking at all.
But, I never know who I will like until seeing them. I would have never said by pics that I would be a fan of Reid or JP. I thought Roberto looked too 'pretty boy' and I really love the guy.

Anything I post means it's Just My Opinion. Don't feel like posting it every time I post. So, I thought I'd get that out of the way.

Re: Doug Clerget - Bachelorette 8 Contestant - Thread #1
I'm commenting on this here because Doug happens to be the one known single dad of the moment but, also because it pertains to him directly as the so far minted favorite of some on the board.
First emily is more than willing to move for whoever she chooses. She moved and took Ricki to live in TN for a good while. And she was willing to move to Texas and set in motion plans to do so. So, moving itself, no matter where(East coast, West coast, Canada), isn't the issue. The key issue determining if Emily will relocate is whether the F1 makes Emily feel security in the stability of the relationship. Brad did not do this.
The F1 being a single guy versus a single dad doesn't effect the key issue either. While Emily can appreciate the security of picking a single dad who already knows what it's like and the commitment it takes to have a child, she is open to a single , childless guy who loves/wants children. If the single guy shows that he is committed to the relationship, to the sacrifices of starting a new relationship being an immediate father, and to learning what it takes to be Ricki's father, she will be happy with single guy.Things like the timing of the move in relation to Ricki's schooling, extended family, familiarity with the F1 and/or his child if he has one, can all be worked out. The key thing is whether the relationship with the F1 is secure and looking to truly be stable and permanent. If it is she will be totally good with moving, I believe.
I think the debate over whether emily should be with a single guy versus a single dad plays into and confirms a bit of the bias that Chris H talked about with Emily bein the lead versus when Jason was the Bachelor. When, Jason was bachelor people were all excited over him getting with one of the single moms and thinking it would be great. When Jason had a far more complicated situation in that he had his child's mother to consider as well as the fathers of the children of the single mothers on his show, with the exception of 1 whose husband was killed in a plane crash. People were against the single mothers on his season but, more for the idea that the would leave their children to be on a show that people felt obviously wouldn't work. Yet they adored the idea of Jason, the single father, competing on Deanna's show, got angry when he wasn't picked, and cheered & encouraged him to be the bachelor. That sentiment only changed because of the switcheroo. The same adoration is going on for Doug doing the show right now that went on for Jason. If it's cool for a single father to do the show it should be cool for a single mother to do it whether it be as th elead or one of the participants. There are fathers who take part just as much or more than th emothers in the primary care of their child and new relationships will effect both single fathers and single mothers.
I know Doug is the fan favorite single father of the moment. However, there are other single fathers in the mix and other single men period. All people know about Doug is some pictures and some public statistics. Those don't totally speak to him as a person, his personality, compatibility or chemistry with Emily. We know of what 3-5 guys who went on the show, not sure with the changes the exact number, there 20+ guys we know nothing about yet. Things are already heading the way they were with Jason, where Doug is the single father with the back story sleuthed before the show starts airing that people build 2 months of fandom about. I hope Emily doesn't have to face a huge wave of flack if she happens to fall in love with/ have more chemistry with another great single guy or different single dad that we have yet to hear of yet on the show who is more of a match. Lots of guys have backstories whether they are single, fathers, or sons. Whoever Emily chooses I'm open to the individual whether it be a single guy, single father, Doug, or someone else as long as ultimately they love Emily and are committed to the relationship & to Ricki.
