Logistically, there is a problem for Emily as well. Although she did move to Nashville, Tn once and took Ricki from all of Rick Henderson's family, the driving distance from Nashville to Charlotte is 552 miles which is doable whereas the flying distance from Washington state to North Carolina is 2,272 miles. That is a different scenario altogether.
I think people are weighing to heavily the Hendricks in this situation. First, the Hendricks are mega rich and travel all the time for racing events. If they want to see their grandaughter they will have no problem doing so, no matter where she lives. Second, the most important thing for any relationship is that she loves the individual and feels it's a forever kind of love. If it is a forever kind of love, she knows there will be long lasting love for her and, most importantly, stability for Ricki. If she has that forever kind of love and a great father figure for Ricki, everything with the grandparents and location will work itself out. Ricki is not the Hendricks only grandchild. And there are plenty of grandparents , even ones whose children are deceased, who have grandchildren out of state and have no problem seeing them, with much less money then the Hendricks.

Aside from the Hendricks issue...
I've thought about this as well. I'm not saying distance or where a person lives is a deal breaker for Emily but I think it will be a factor... even if she isn't willing to admit it. Thinking about past leads... Ashley was never moving to wine country to finish her doctorate. Hearing JP lived in NYC probably was very good news to her and that helped his chances more then it hurt them. Ben probably liked that Courtney already lived on the west coast, making it easy for them to see each other (both were also originally from AZ).... this helped Courtney's chances more then it hurt them. I never saw Ali moving to back to Mass to marry a landscaper but Roberto transferring his business to SD helped his chances with Ali.
Even if she falls in love with Doug... moving to WA is going to be a big pill to swallow.JMO

You may be absolutely, totally right. Intuitively, I am leaning towards probably not on this one because it inherently had too many problems to start with. There were what, 25 guys? Unless Doug simply bowled her over from the "git-go" in much the same way that Courtney did Ben, I am inclined to think that she may have looked the field over carefully and used her time and energy to move in other directions as far as primary interest.
One of the producers said that she was spending a lot of time talking with each guy, asking lots of questions. That makes me think that Emily is not just going with who flips her trigger physically. She is filtering information about each guy to see who "fits" with her in ways that are going to count to her personally. I personally think proximinity to North Carolina/West Virgina might count, but then again, maybe not. I know she was in no hurry to uproot Ricki to move to Texas to be with Brad, and it caused no end of problems to them.

I don't think Doug will be the F1 for reasons that have nothing to do with the city he currently lives in. Who knows maybe I will turn out to be wrong about this.

I think I'm in on this one too.. As much as he seems like a great guy, I have a feeling he'll leave before HT's

What is it that everyone is picking up? I realize there are really big potential problems with children and the distance between where they live. Plus, Ep. 4 statistically doesn't stand as good a chance as producing of F1 as Ep. 2 and Ep. 3.
Is there something else?
What is it with all of the body builders, btw? Was that some kind of pre-requisite for Emily's season - kind of like in Brad's season everyone had to have a really, really sad, heartbreaking type backstory. Somebody died on every date.

That gave me a good laugh this morning! I can't remember what date he was on, but one of the girls was crying telling him something and the look on his face was like "Crap, here we go again"! Poor guy
I don't know why I'm getting that vibe on Doug, it's probably his ep 4 date more than anything. I just have this feeling TP are going to edit him as the perfect guy with the sad backstory, like they did with Jason, viewers will love him.

That reminds me, though, of us seeing the well-built body trainer from Florida (Pete??) in that scene with Ashley, and we could hear JP saying that he (JP) was the smallest guy there....and yet she chose JP hands down. Of course, they were editing in retrospect, but that was classic Bachelor irony. Who knows what may happen this season? As the adage goes, "Love is blind..." (surely not! :laughingoutlou with all of her choices!!)

That is actually one of the reasons I'm guessing he's out of the running. Unless of course he was her FIR or some other quality time prior to the 1 on 1 date and he / the producers felt good enough to keep him till ep4 ? Still its not a good sign. And this leaving aside the potential blended family and distance factors.
IDK, this is just a guess based on gut anyway right ? I really like Doug (from the pictures) more than the front runners Ryan and Chris. This equals NO F1 in my world. I think Emily is the only one that I saw the connection that Brad had right out of the limo and doubted the RS Chantal spoiler over my own gut feel. All the other seasons I have been wrong wrong so I'm fully onboard with my pick (Doug) not having a chance .
ETA - other contestants who have had f4 or later dates have been F1 though IMO defaults and not the Leads picks. Obviously like Molly the scenario could lead to happily ever after but I doubt it. You either feel strongly enough for a person to ask for an early date or your abivilent. Again JMO.

I agree with this. I think Emily went in with a plan to use her head as much as her heart in weeding through potential husbands. And yeah, unless there was some kind of undeniable, "soul mate" kind of attraction with Doug from the moment they met at the M&G (or with any of the others, and to be honest, not only is it unlikely, but I also just don't read Emily as being prone to that kind of impulsiveness), I suspect that his "geographical undesirability", combined with his more complicated family issues, will be a large obstacle that, when push comes to shove, will steer her away from him towards a guy who promises a more "practical" courtship.
Not to mention that as a parent herself, and one who now understands how intrusive and difficult the Bachelor's special kind of public courtship can become with children added to the mix, I suspect Emily will be more leery of choosing another parent and involving another child, even marginally, in this, unless she is more than 100% convinced that she can't live without this person. Just don't see it happening.
