We live in a partisan world unfortunately. I think part of the issue is we need to stop writing people off and actually talk to one another. I’d love the chance to talk to Garrett, not to chastise him but really talk. Becca gets the chance to do that. Hopefully they both grow from it.

Not to get off topic but this is one of my favorite stories. One of the most powerful stories of redemption and just the grace of love and giving someone a chance that I’ve seen. Just thought I’d share. Everyone is capable of change if someone believes in them and gives them a reason to.

IMO Conversation & exposure to people with different lifestyles/cultures/viewpoints is the best way to spark change of thought.

Throwing a label on someone (rascist,bigot) without conversation is easy but IMO it pigeonholes people and creates the idea that they aren't able to learn & change.

That catch phase finally made me smile when I thought: well, she did it. She finally did the damn thing. It probably was nothing close to what was expected, however. She’ll never utter that inane phrase again after that. cantstopl

I totally agree that people are capable of change... that nothing helps people become more compassionate and understanding than by exposing themselves to different viewpoints and getting out of the bubble. I also believe Becca is a gem, I love what she stands for, and think she *could* be a positive light/influence on someone like Garrett.

Simultaneously, I also think this is a TON of pressure and huge expectations to put on a baby relationship of but a few months, in the spot light. Idk.

Unless Garrett’s reckoning happens on camera and this is like part of the story line somehow (LOL, yeah right, doubt it)... I don’t personally see how I will become a fan of them. I love Becca... but I just will personally have trouble shipping and fanning her other half with the views he clearly supports. I just don’t know how I would look past that to get too emotionally involved.

When I think of change what comes to mind is the serenity prayer. Personally, a person can only change if the desire to do so is there. They change because they want to, imo, and not because someone else desires it for them. There maybe influencing factors but, IMO the temptation or possibility of reverting to those old Leopard’s spots is always latent, IMO, like a virus.

The very notion that being with someone who thinks differently is what will force change is kinda bizarre to me. All one can do is inform and provide alternative ways of thinking. Real change should be an internal awakening driven by an individual’s want for that change & it builds up over time IMO. When people change for other people, it never lasts in my experience but to each their own...all jmho.
