Bachelor 22 - Arie Luyendyk Jr - General Discussion - *Sleuthing Spoilers*

And it's as though UnReal and The Bachelor have merged. Glad she wrote this book. It's worse than I had imagined. I thought UnReal was exagerrated and simply - not to be believed. Wrong. I keep thinking - why would anyone do this show? And the answer I suppose is Des and Chris, Ashley and JP, etc. But still.

Los Angeles Times staff writer Amy Kaufman’s new book, “Bachelor Nation: Inside the World of America’s Favorite Guilty Pleasure” (Dutton, out March 6), pulls back the velvet curtains on one of the highest-rated reality shows on television, ABC’s “The Bachelor.” And it’s not all rose petals and champagne flutes. Kaufman reveals that the show’s supervising producer, Scott Jeffress, would motivate the other producers with cash, keeping a wad of $100 bills for anyone who delivered the goods. “The first producer to get tears? A hundred bucks! You get [the bachelor] to make out with the right girl? A hundred bucks! Catch a chick puking on-camera? A hundred bucks!”

While TPTB may not be the contestants' friends, the majority of the contestants aren't TPTB's friends either. They both use each other to gain what they want, imo.

Arie has been on this show before and wanted to be the lead for 5 years. He knew what he signed up for. It's why I don't feel sympathy when Arie or  others complain about their edit or TPTB or whatever else. 

It's telling to me how Arie and so many others only seem to complain about edit or things when they don't like something or the public has a negative reaction and they put blame on TPTB instead of their own actions.  

Arie doesn't get a pass just because TPTB suck. If anything, Arie's behavior is just as bad if not worse than TPTB's imo. What Arie does is on him. jmo

TPTB are a common denominator in all these shows, therefore how the lead behaves on the show and off the show says more about the lead than about TPTB. It's why Arie's choices and his lack of empathy is on him, not TPTB. jmo

Yet, if anyone published, or posted how difficult this has been for Arie, IMO, first no one would believe it, 2nd, no one would care that it was difficult, or third, they would be thrilled that he suffered as well.  It's really a no win, regardless.    IMO, people who hate Arie, want to believe every horrible thing that is posted, every horrible thing an ex has said, and every horrible thing they can imagine him to be.  Unfortunately,  that's life in bachelor world.

And if those people hate (which is an incredibly strong word, which I tell my children never to hate anyone) Arie, Lauren goes along for the ride, which makes no sense to me.

Which "people" are these? Members on this forum? 

As for Arie, I did believe and defended him for a long time. However it's Arie's own actions that prove to me that Arie's present behavior matches his past behavior. If any other lead had a reputation like Arie has and then proved that reputation to be true imo and showed such a lack of empathy like Arie has displayed, I'd say the same thing about them. This is not Arie's first rodeo on this show. How he's chosen to act is on him, both for his past behavior and for the present. jmo

I am not going to take the bait here. I specifically said 'in bachelor world'. I don't appreciate a hornet's nest being stirred because I say something in defense of a contestant, and the twisting of my words.

No! it only applies to the lead, the contestants are exempted. So I should expect the same for the next lead, right!

Absolutely. You should especially expect it for the female leads. They are never, ever exempt. It'll be much worse than Arie's getting.

I think TPTB always treat the 'Ette much worse than the TB. This is a very misogynist show imo.
