Vanessa Grimaldi - Bachelor 21 - *Sleuthing Spoilers* #5

Working in the health care sector all my life (almost 40 yrs) and valuing special and any ed. I don't want to get on a soap box. It's very uphill.
My daughter is very qualified to teach. Moving from NY to NJ has made it miserable to transfer in education. Soon she will have 2 kids under 3. So she will tutor.
Health and ed. the salaries are not great, the hours long and we are defeated at every turn except at the heart strings.

Thanks for the info. IMO if she is able to do the bachelor then initially she may be forced to give up her teaching to work in the entertainment industry if they have decided to live in the US. IMO she could be a wonderful ambassador for special needs where ever she is. Her with her students was the best/ most real 5 mins of bachelor/ette I have seen.

To be realistic, if V moves to the US for Nick, the fastest way for her to find a job would be to work in the entertainment industry (like she did in Canada while she finished school). Similarly while she works on paperwork and US requirements to continue her teaching career in special education, she can milk her 20 mins of fame like Nick did. It is possible that she will be moving to LA with Nick and while she's there she will find some gigs while Nick is on DWTS, similar to Sean and Catherine did when Sean was on DWTS (I feel they have been talking to them - hmmm and getting some pointers for the lessons learned).

So if she gives up her very noble job to pursue d-list fame, and shill sugar bear hair gummies, it definitely won't be because she wants to, it'll simply be because she just has no other choice. ***IMO*** Poor Vanessa tbh. JMSnarkyO.

It goes the other direction as well. I have a friend that has a college degree in education and was licensed to teach in Illinois. Her husband designs toys and at one point in his career, they lived in Ontario. She couldn't even think about teaching even though she was highly qualified. Due to the nature of his work, they are never in one place for more than 3 to 5 years so she didn't try to get licensed since they would probably be moving before it happened. Next stop for them was Georgia. Her Illinois credentials would not permit her to teach so she turned to being a teacher's aide to get back into the groove of working in schools. Now they are in Texas. She was able to get another aide position and has chosen to take the required testing to get her teaching certificate in Texas.

Too many hoops to jump through no matter where you go even within one country!

I may be in the minority but I don't think any of these contestants go on TV because they are "normal" and want their "normal" lives back post-show. Maybe back in the day, but with SM and the like, all of them go on TV with the possibility of not going back to their normal lives, IMO (before SM and the like I'd believe it was for adventure and travel, etc, but not anymore). And the ones that do go back to their "normal" lives IMO only do so because they either don't get opportunities or they don't have the means or ability or desire to trade their "normal" lives for the opportunities/occupations that are less promising than what they currently have and can afford.

It's also why to me whether you are a lawyer, salesperson, Special Ed teacher, etc, I don't believe that just because Vanessa or anyone else chooses to do something else that they are less sincere or real. I don't think of those things as being mutually exclusive from one another and I don't see leaving one job/career for something else (whether deemed less or more superficial by society) takes away the character and traits and skills that person has, in Vanessa's case, a special Ed teacher she still has those same qualities and traits regardless of her occupation.

I feel that way about Vanessa and all of these contestants and why to me I always expect them to use this show as a platform if they are able to do so and I don't have expectations on any of them to go back to their "normal" lives because IMO they'd never be on TV and this show in the first place if it wasn't for that possibility of them being offered something other than what they have in their lives pre-show.

From the getgo I never expected Vanessa to stay in her current position or in Montreal or any of that (I even posted when it was said that Nick and her are so different that I thought they were the same, just like any of the other contestants) and I always saw that as a positive thing and not a negative thing. To me the contestants and leads are all the same when it comes to this show but what makes me like one over the other is based on how they treat people and how they behave, whether they own up to their flaws and mistakes or act like they are all that, and if they are grateful for their opportunities and they don't whine or complain.

From the getgo I liked Vanessa because of who she is and and what I have seen so far, not because of her occupation or where she lives.

Considering I don't mind people who choose not to go back to their jobs even when there is nothing standing in their way, there is no way I am judging Vanessa who might have an uphill battle in front of her.

I just hope she doesn't shill nonsense products like detox tea and sugar bear hair (JMO). Everything else is fine by me.

If she moves to the US and is unable to work in her field what better way to keep busy and make money than to shill. To steal JJ's comment, The house that IG built. You can do that from anywhere in the world, if she chose to do that.

If she secures employment in the entertainment business, media or what have you, then her employer can process the necessary paperwork, which would be much easier. Then perhaps she wouldn't have to shill, considering Nick hardly does himself. I think they have started some legwork in order for her to move.

Honestly, IMO, if she really wants to pursue this and does not need the money, there are many routes she can take other than structural teaching.
I chose to pursue geriatrics which is low paying and low on the hierarchy of nursing. I had my masters and could have done many things. I didn't do management health but hands on care--think nursing home, diapers, feeding etc.
Special ed in adults, which is what it appears she was doing might have many, many other venues that formal educational venues.
We often forget, what happens to these special ed kids when they get past age 18. Vanessa appears to work with these adults. It takes special people who do this and like it. JMOAA

At least if this is the way they're making it work (if they are together), I'll take it. And I wonder if this is connected to MF announcement at ATFR.

@Catdwoman50 now that I see the talent sign up, I'm thinking more that way as opposed to earlier today, I didn't think so.

Maybe they will both be working for the show. I can almost hear certain heads exploding, more than one.
