Survivor - South Pacific - Discussion - Spoilers

I have yet to warm up to him, but the major work the editors are doing on him... trying to make him likeable... is an ominous sign.

Albert, Whitney, Keith, Sophie and even elder statesman Rick are given very limited screen time so that we the viewers don't get any more "attached" to them than the chickens in the cage. Their exits will be brutal and have people stop watching.

With Dawn, the "experience" of Survivor is more important than winning. No regrets when she gets snuffed.

We are not supposed to "like" The Coch, Jim, Edna, Makayla or Ozzy (despite the LUV he got pre-season). We are not going to cry seeing them go.

They are hammering us over the head about how "great" Coach Don't-call-me-Benjamin and Lil' Hantz Brandon are. Jeff Probst is behaving like a defense lawyer with them post-show. You know what that means: it doesn't matter how much we like them since we will be likely stuck with them until the end...

I sure hope I'm wrong, but I have learned with each season, not to be too hopeful as each gets worse than the last.

It is funny... over on Survivor Sucks, nobody is believing the spoilers and many are trying to figure it out edit-wise. Two out of three spoilers have him in the top 3, while another states he gets booted before then. We shall see if ANY are right.

Some are convinced Coach is getting the same kind of edit as Boston Rob last season, but shown as downright crazy... not that it matters for a show that had Richard Hatch the very first winner. Those convinced Coach doesn't win think it could be under-the-radar Sophie, Dawn or... surprise!... Jim, after his clever strategy work in the last episode. However, we have this Entertainment Weekly interview posted this week...

Dalton Ross: You and I have our opinions about the contestants before the game begins and it’s always fun to see which of those opinions prove true and which don’t. Five episodes in, which of the remaining players has not lived up to your expectations in terms of what they would bring to the show, and which person has exceeded them?
Jeff Probst: I’d have to say that Rick is the biggest disappointment. Sure, he’s in the game and in an alliance but as a “star” on the show, which we really hoped he would be, he has not shown up. That’s just the way it goes.

Seriously, would Jeff say that if Jim was the winner?

The twitter comments are most interesting, although the contestants aren't allowed to reveal their status. Albert, Dawn and Cochran are all pretty chipper, suggesting that the experience was good for them. Whitney and Makayla twitter as if they are less chipper but have a chip on their shoulders instead. This exchange with Jeff and Whitney was pretty "ouch!"...

Maybe I am making too much into this, but it sounds like The Coch pulled a fast one on Whit & Keith during the show that didn't please them.

With Mikayla (@iLuvMiki), she is just trying her best to ignore Uncle Russell's constant flirting with her and suggesting she and Brandon should hook up, despite him being married. Brandon recently joked about getting "ripped" before meeting her at the reunion. Oh something went down that we have yet to see this season...

When a bunch criticized him for giving the idol information to Coach and Sophie (an indication that he may not win later... or an indication he does win?), he responded: Whats more valuable on#Survivor a get out of jail free card used in case of emergency or solidifying an interpersonal bond in a social game?

At least Dawn got her tooth fixed, regardless whether or not it actually broke during the pork challenge:

Of course, she is all supportive of Christine, had a good relationship with Brandon and thought Makayla and Rick were OK. As for Coach Benjamin "The Snake"... ooooooh, don't get her started! In previous interviews, she was pretty potty-mouthed about him and Albert his "follower", but here she is rather sedated and more, shall we say, even tempered... admitting that she even wore Al's shirt.

Haven't heard all of Rob's podcasts, but the ones I have are really quite good, but too long at times. Very much like the Bachelor Beatdowns but without all of the frathouse humor and potty talk... more "refined".

OK folks I am finally back from my little vacay and have the Survivor scoreboard for last week up. Now I am off to get TAR scoreboard up to date.

It has been interesting to read all the different spoiler theories and I guess it is still really not spoiled at all but just theory. Will be interesting to see what unfolds. I am enjoying this season.

Alas... like Gina, I am starting to have trouble getting into this season... but for different reasons. Had high hopes at the start, though.

Mark my word, if Coach Ben-ja-min is still on the show by the second week of November, you know who the winner is. Stacey gave him the Richard Hatch "Snake" label of approval. I also have this bad taste in my mouth that production WANTS Coach to win for some reason and just MIGHT have helped him in little doses here and there. Oh NO... I can't prove anything and, sure, I may be dead wrong. It is just that itchy, itchy feeling.

I still can't get over that funny shot by the cameraman on the idol clue in the trunk that Stacey kept missing in the first show and Coach finding the idol itself a little TOO quickly after praying to his God. Although a cbs.com extra made it clear that he, Albert and Sophie had promised each other to share idol information regardless who found it, the editors made Albert look S-T-U-P-I-D on screen because he didn't find it himself... and those on that potty-mouthed Survivor Sucks forum are cheering for him to go by merge-time. Of course, Coach ALWAYS looks good on screen, if being shown a lot more like Russell Hantz in his game-play than Brandon. They don't care if you "like" the winner as long as he makes great TV drama.

Watched this show hours ago on the East Coast but the Twittering only just started. What was most amusing about tonight is that CBS commercial previewed this episode to death that Ozzy going to Redemption was hardly a surprise. They pretty much spoiled it all ahead of time.

Ozzy beats Christine (as expected) and does a pretend yelling fight with Cochran (the Trojan Horse plan)...Ozzy returns to the game, and Cochran DOES give him back the HII (actually, I kinda thought he would)...Ozzy also wins first individual immunity challenge, so he has 2 immunities. However, Coach's tribe doesn't buy that Ozzy's tribe is against him, and Cochran doesn't (seemingly) "pretend to jump" as previously said....he really does! The plot thickens!

Oh no No more eye candy....Keith goes.
