IMO If Nick campaigning for The Bachelor gig is desperate, then everyone networking to find better job opportunities, athletes pursuing multiple teams to find the best fit, actors campaigning for oscars/emmys should be called desperate.

IMO SM has changed this show whichever way you look at it. Sure, it could be a way to find love but it could also be a way to explore other opportunities which might not have come your way otherwise. IMO Nick saw a sliver of a chance and went for it. I personally applaud him for having the courage to do that knowing that he was risking TPTB throwing him under the bus yet again. :claphands

I find Nick very relatable cos of how upfront he is with his flaws. The fact that he doesn't take himself too seriously also helps. I do realize going into this journey he seems to be very aware that he can't keep messing it up and that his redemption tour better be here to stay cos he's been given the biggest opportunities ever. I wish him all the best and I do think once he finds a woman who can call him on his BS he'll lean more to his softer side rather than his "edgier edge". One thing I left out is that Nick's got a lot of heart! whether you get it or not -- he lives fully, loudly, by putting himself on the line completely and that takes some serious courage every single time he does it and it makes him endearing/relatable but also admirable in my eyes. He professes to be super into strong women which I really appreciate about him because he seems so damn genuine about it - I want to see that kind of woman bowl him over!

Nick mentioned his business on a few other interviews in the past two days as well, so hopefully it will still happen.

yes and yes ... that's why I was giggling during 1st episode ... he was not the smoothest of self ... and it was ~~endearing~~ a little bit embarrassing ... and while with that he actually gave the women a chance to shine (and result in the better light) ... my attention was on him.

to add, I mostly like Nick, but there are moments when I love him too ... when I adore him. Often than not ... it's when I see my own flaws in him ... and then seeing him rising after the fall ... or when he simply "makes me accept" my own (and his) flaws and embrace the "awkwardness".

:yougogirl: you speak my "language" ... exactly that ... what I perceive as a flaw, might not be the same for someone else ... and what others can't stand about Nick, I can actually find endearing or empowering ... it's all matter or our own stance and attitude. IMO.

I listened to that recap, I was shocked that Robert Mills will say that to viewers because it made Nick seem desperate and kinda validate RS with some of the things he has been saying about Nick imo

I use to be a fan but I must admit now he is just meh to me. I tend to agree that he has been subtly eyeing the bachelor role for the past two years. I agree he has a way of playing innocent but is very calculating, manipulative and canning AF IMO

@mysthelma I have to say that my 'in like with nick' feelings have also significantly toned down and I no longer see him as the genuine sweet considerate and hopeless romantic guy that also happens to be very intelligent like I used to during andi's season. I see him as a very complicated personality who I still find interesting and entertaining. I'm no longer really surprised by anything he says/does tho I do believe he has generally got good intentions whether they pan out or not. I do not buy that he's the best and most generous and innocent guy under the sun cos he's not. He used to be my favorite bach world contestant and now he's fine no idea

I get the sentiment ... I happen not to follow him on SM or outside of this forum anymore ... so I enjoy watching and dissecting him in the lovely company here ... so he is entertainment for me.

ETA: It's my belief that Nick was more naive and genuine with no calculation of how he appeared in the first season on TBette. I believe that's NOT everyone's POV. Did he change over time? Sure ... I don't see his naivete anymore. He is fully aware how he might come across (on our screen) and he is making a conscious decisions that might result in him being "better received" - IMO. That said ... it is exactly what I was hoping for him to learn after the 1st season ... because most of criticism he got was because of him being open and honest to his own fault. I like(d) him for that ... but majority didn't appreciate - JMHO. So whatever he does, changes or not ... the "label" will continue to stick with him and so I say, "go with it ... play your game, because you can't be a winner in everyone's eyes".

P.S. (ahahah, you see where the similarity lays? Oh, my long-winded posts) I don't think Nick was ever hurtful to anyone ... well, except the one and only ATFR epic moment that he is still paying for, because he is branded as "that guy".

hahaha funny observation @happygolucky I do believe it's true as you put it - that him being naive during his first rodeo didn't help him out. I do believe the setting also matters and BIP was a place we could see him be there for others and be his observant, intelligent and analytical self - helpful when he can lend that to others trying to figure out their relationship drama cos he's removed enough from their situation to maintain his impartiality.

Being on the chase for a girl or vice versa I do think his overly analytical side and maybe some of his weaknesses will come out. He will probably be aware that this will happen so I'm curious to see how he deals with the season. If the situation with Liz is anything to go by he'll do well...but then again this bubble that's bach world can do crazy things to people... and he did hint that he didn't feel very certain about his decisions all of the time.

I'm up to knowing THREE people IRL that know him and/or his family. Two of them don't even watch the show and just told me randomly about their "Bachelor connection" since they know I love this stupid show. I guess make a guy a Bachelor and people come out of the woodwork. (I grew up in the same general area Nick grew up.) Everyone's opinions of the guy IRL are just as varied as the TV version we see! Believe me! laugh out loud

I happen to like Nick. Would I want to date the guy? Nope. But he makes excellent television. He's a good conversationalist. He's intelligent. He's self aware. He's pretty transparent. And to me, Vanessa is EXACTLY the type I kind of pictured him with from the get go. I think she seems like she would be really good for him. I hope they can figure out the living thing and Nick doesn't prioritize is LaLa dreams over this girl, but I guess we shall see. One thing I do think: we will know pretty transparently post show how they are doing. I don't see Nick sugar coating anything or putting of a facade on SM. I think he will tell it how it is.

All it takes is that one person to make one realize what they really need and what they really want as opposed to what they thought they wanted.

If this is the case with Nick and his F1 if in fact it's Vanessa, then I think they'll work out the distance thing. If you want it, you'll make it work, if you don't want the relationship to work, then IMO it's easy to say "it's the distance".

I guess i don't have to say I like Nick, you all know that, as I am one of the original Nick Chicks!! But he is polarizing, there is no question.
I find him very good looking, intelligent, funny and honest. And a guy who knows what he wants.
I think once Nick settles downs and marries, he will be a great husband and Dad. He has a wonderful role model in both his parents.
