Bachelor 21 - Nick Viall - General Discussion - *Sleuthing Spoilers* #3

I think what makes Nick so polarizing is that he is brutally honest and very transparent with his opinions. If one agrees with him, they tend to have a more favorable view of him. The same holds true of the opposite. Nick is not a people pleaser. He sees the world and expresses his opinions in black and white. No room for grey.  It's a waste of precious time.

On his first go around, he was naive to how his polarizing personality would be received by the viewers and ultimately didn't care that he wasn't liked. But as time passed, I saw Nick start to realize the benefits of people pleasing. He started to hold back or modify his polarizing opinions to avoid offending his audience.  He changed the way he presented himself to make his strong opinions more palatable to the general audience.  

I see this change as a wise move. Calculating?  Maybe. I see nothing wrong with that.  It shows intelligence and self awareness to inact change in oneself while evaluating the playing field and the other players on it.  I see the changes in Nick as rational and consistent with his drive to make himself his best version.

@OnePromise. ITA, isn't this what we would do in our personal and professional lives - it's called self-improvement or personal growth and it is a calculating move to advance careers and relationships. For example, Nick taking emcee lessons may not mean anything but to learn how to enunciate better and speak to his audience or to the camera (remember how he used to have problems with looking at people). I liken it to me taking toastmasters classes to become a more effective speaker. The difference, I guess is that the change is being watched by the public - his detractors will see it as a ploy to get into TB, DWTS, and then maybe an Extra gig. I don't think there is anything wrong with that if that is his career choice, or if his choice is to perfect his brand (himself) so he becomes a better salesperson - he was in software sales before all these started. It is public knowledge, from a lot of people who have met him and know him is that the guy has charisma and he looks much better in person (AshleyI says he smells good too).

This is the kind of thing that makes discussion great, imo.
I was in a discussion group recently that's focus was on personal inventories. This meant introspective self assessment of our strengths and weaknesses.
One person's ability to be honest and sincere can be interpreted by another as being blunt and tactless. So POV and moderation are very important. What I might consider natural curiosity could be perceived as nosiness by someone else.

Just a quick side note, Nick was interviewed by Ryan Seacrest a few minutes ago. I didn't hear all of it, but Nick did say that he and Chris Harrison are both left handed. (Someone else wondered about this a few days ago... can't remember who sorry.)

If this is the case with Nick and his F1 if in fact it's Vanessa, then I think they'll work out the distance thing. If you want it, you'll make it work, if you don't want the relationship to work, then IMO it's easy to say "it's the distance".

So true. I just remind myself of Sean and Catherine. Opposite ends of the country. Seemingly opposites in many ways and yet, here they are. If they really want it, they will make it work, otherwise everything else is just an excuse.

I fully expect Nick to do DWTS, I fully expect him to go about as far as Sean and Chris did in their seasons, and I fully expect Vanessa to be in the audience cheering him on throughout. What I don't know is which couple's trajectory they will follow once the season ends. ITA that whether or not Nick and Vanessa can make this relationship work all depends on "how committed they really are to being committed". Nick has claimed he is, his fans claim he is more interested in marriage than he is in fame. I expect we will know whether this is the case in about 5-6 months.

Darn, I was listening this afternoon to some recently posted interview links in the forum and he again said he recently started his own business but didn't specify nor was he asked. No clue which interview as I was binge watching.  Also, yesterday I watched an interview where he mentioned "when I lived in LA". I think he was being interviewed by 2 women. It was part of an answer about Liz and contact after "the wedding". Anyone else catch that? Pieced together it sounds like his startup is somewhere other than LA.
Oh well, doesn't really matter all that much since I just want to know if he found someone

yeap, he used "past tense" for LA (alarm bells went off in my head) ... and I can't remember which interview either, could it be he said it on JK or Extra or E!?

My sense is that Nick really wants a wife and family. I just hope he can get out of the spotlight when this is all over. I think he likes it more than he lets on.

Maybe Nick is moving/leaving LA? maybe for a special lady?

It may be as straightforward as his ABC bio being legit and that he is currently a Chicago businessman.
