I actually believe the leads and the contestants are the normal people (always were and continue to be) ... and the problem is in the audience (sorry if I'm pointing the finger, I'm including myself to be fair) ... it's that the "audience" is making these people into something "more" ...

and the irony is, the audience is actually the one who should pay attention and love their own life, because they are doing an incredible job with what their normality has to offer ...
while ... those normal people on TV ... suddenly are treated as something other than normal and are given the "golden ticket" to luxury of comfortable life ... on the expense of the audience.
Comfort Zone is just a prison of our own making. / I hope you dance.

I do not know if he deleted it or not but to me it was a joke. He had the box in a particular place like he was making fun of it. He only did it once and like you have said and has only promoted the two things you mentioned. So to me it is not schilling it probably is part of his job being a model. Yes one of them is for a charity .sdmom wrote:Mia, have I told you how much I love reading your posts? Great one! Yes, I totally agree with "wish him find love, expect the worst and hope for the best" mentality while watch this show.
As for schilling goes, I just quickly looked through his IG and couldn't find the infamous FabFitFun pic. Did he delete it? He actually only promoted two products from what I know and one of them donates to the needy so it really isn't too bad. I know in the past he also tagged a leather jacket and jeans a lot. Is that schilling?

@happygolucky, I think of it more as people who have no desire to be normal being lifted up in their fame by people who are happy to use them to escape their own normal even just by watching. We have had those who escape from the SM fame, if they want to. Whitney Bischoff comes to mind quickly. By refusing to overshare her life on SM she has reclaimed her normal. So while the fans are indeed a part of it, these people who stay so SM active feed the beast and have no desire to be normal again, IMO.

wow, not normal, so does that make them all freaks or something??? To each their own. It doesn't affect my life in any way, shape or form, and more power to those peeps who can parlay their time on TB into exciting adventures for their future. I wouldn't pass it up.

I always go back to the money incentive. If they don't have a trust fund, or a job with a high income potential, the bach is one way for "normal" young people with above average good looks to increase the bank balance. That would be hard to pass up for alot of people. imo

This is very true. Use what you have. Doesn't mean that we can't comment on what they do, it is part of being on a discussion board. And even my favorites like Caila, Robby, Luke, Chris and Des, and Ashley and JP invite these comments into their lives. They have decided that the benefits and financial gain out weigh the negative. Now in this I do not condone hateful trolling, bullying, body shaming or threats of violence or harassment. But criticism comes with the positive. IMO.

Re: Bachelor 21 - Nick Viall - General Discussion - *Sleuthing Spoilers* #2
I, personally, don't like the use of Normal versus Not Normal when describing someone's lifestyle or life goals.
I think there are convential paths in life that involve a certain timeline for education, career, marriage, and children. If someone strays from that convential path, I don't consider them Not Normal. The older I get, the more I believe that there is no Normal, nor should there be. That kind of thinking, IMO, is what breeds intolerance. If someone doesn't conform to my or society's norm does that make them any less?
Some people go down a conventional path in life, get an education, get onto a traditional career path requiring additional training and dedication to their area of expertise, and they remain focused and content. Some people enjoy climbing the ladder or challenging themselves to learn more and more about their one specialty. Others prefer to veer from their initial paths and venture off into new and sometimes very different directions. For example, is Luke Not Normal because he used to play football, went to West Point, served in the US Army, and now writes country music songs? No, he is just walking his own paths of his choosing.
There are many people who choose to remain on a career path because of the time and money they have invested in it, for the security it provides, even if they are less than 100% happy, and that's fine. I would say that that is the convential person. But, IMO, they aren't more virtuous than the Unconventional people who decide to try something new.
ETA: This post of my opinions was not directed at any member here. It was not intended to negate anyone else's opinions here. Some previous posts sparked these thoughts in me and this was simply my way of continuing the conversation.

I'm really glad you expressed this because I completely agree but couldn't find the words. I dislike the snobby nature of the criticism he often gets. The "He doesn't have a real job with real responsibilities therefore he is beneath other people" argument really bothers me. Why isn't what he does, like modelling and advertising things on his social media, a "real job"? I admire people, like Nick, who dare to do something off the beaten path and do something crazy like move to L.A., shed their "responsibilities" and dare to do something completely new and different.
I'd also just like to say that I'm not bothered at all by what people have termed "famewhoring". Seriously what is so dang awful about advertising products on social media? Why does it spark so much anger? I really don't understand why it's supposed to be something I look down on.
Can anyone help me out here?

I can't help you because I don't see anything wrong when contestants take the opportunities as a result of the show.
FYI all members opinions are welcome whether positive or negative. I'm sure your posts are directed to the comments on SM and not necessarily from the forum, which are against the rules.

Re: Bachelor 21 - Nick Viall - General Discussion - *Sleuthing Spoilers* #2
I am going to be completely honest here. My knee jerk reaction may be to look at Nick or somebody else who appears on this show, see them promoting items on SM, and be turned off by it. Then, I stop, take a deep breath, and ask myself What is it that you are opposed to? What do you find distasteful? Often times after thinking about it, I decide it doesn't bother me. Other times it still does.
First of all, when it comes to SM, I am an old dog who doesn't want to learn new tricks. I personally don't use it much because I really, really value my privacy. For example, I'm the kind of person who would never ask a celebrity for an autograph and see that as an invasion of their privacy (even if they are willing to oblige). Many, especially those younger than me, have a different interpretation of privacy, value and use SM often. So, as far as I can see, we're never going to turn back time. SM is here to stay and those that wish to use it will use it, whether I like it or not. I see these contestants "over sharing" but I also see everyday people "over sharing". JMHOAA. Hey, somebody may be reading this post right now and be thinking: Gee, that Miahawk goes on and on with her opinions and sure does love to overshare them. So, it is what it is. We do what we do. Not everybody has to like what everybody else is doing in life.
As far as promoting things goes, if the item or service is within the realm of what you might purchase or use, and you might get a free item or cash for posting a photo of yourself with the brand, I don't see much harm in that. If the product is something that I feel is possibly dangerous to somebody's health or unsafe to use, then that bothers me. I am not forced to look at anyone's SM accounts. If the promoting 'got out of hand' and I found myself annoyed by it, I would simply choose to ignore it (like ads that pop up on the internet or commercials on tv) or decide that visiting the SM account wasn't interesting anymore and stop going there.
I believe that young adults should (strive to) be financially independent. I think that many young adults are saddled with student loan debts or don't have a nest egg built up by the time they reach their late 20s. Promoting things by posting photos on their SM accounts is pretty much an effortless way to earn a few bucks. (I literally have no idea what it pays, but I assume it pays something or they get an item for free). I'd rather my child post a photo of an item with a link to the manufacturer, than call me and ask me for cash. At least those that promote things are trying to be financially more independent. I find it more distasteful to see young adult children mooching endlessly off of the teet of Mom and Dad while living the high life.
So, when I stop and ask myself what I am opposed to or what I find distasteful about promoting items on SM, and I really think about it, I've come to realize that it isn't all that bad. JMHOAA.

Mia, good post and nice insight. I love the way you word things and express yourself (and am always glad when you "overshare" with us!) Don't ever stop!

I liked your post above, also, Mia.
I keep my own real FB page private with only a few allowed access. I am not a fan of oversharing or sm.
As far as the shilling, with the exception of misleading with an unsafe product, I don't care. But then I also don't go to all the casts' pages and see the stuff either. So nothing to get worked up over.
