ABC is really getting a show for cheap. The contestants sign up season after season for 'possibilities' after the show.

Benjamin Edward Higgins, formerly known as Ben Higgins, was born March 23, 1988 in Denver, Colorado. His parents are David and Amy Higgins and he is their only child. During his time as a teenager, he lived in Warsaw, Indiana. In 2008, he graduated from Warsaw Community High School and soon after, attended Indiana University. As a college student, he made major contributions to his community. He was the Student Association of Indiana University’s President and the Director of Faith Based Affairs International Volunteer Head Quarters in Cuzco, Peru.

After finishing his studies, Higgins headed to Denver and became a business analyst for Talisys, a financial services company. Aside from having an amazing personal life, he appeared on season 20 of The Bachelorette, where he competed for Kaitlyn Bristowe’s heart. Higgins was eliminated after the overnight dates. Since then, it’s been reported he may be the next Bachelor on the show. This is great news for his career because if he decides to take the offer and do the show, he will earn at least $100,000. On The Bachelor and Bachelorette, contestants usually earn six figures or more. (However, Higgins’ reason for doing the show wasn’t related to the money. He was looking for love and he thought he could find it in Bristowe.)

During his time on the show, Higgins is reported to have made roughly $213,000. His salary was a little higher than the standard amount because he was one of three contestants left on the show. Although there are reports, he may be the new Bachelor, he hasn’t admitted anything, yet. If he does agree to appear on the long-lived show, he may see more opportunities and a bigger salary coming his way. The new season won’t air until mid-September and his fans are looking forward to hopefully seeing him. In 2015 we estimated Ben Higgins' net worth to be around $800,000.

Wow! An F3 got paid ? This is new to me . I thought they don't get paid ?. As far as I know if you go on the show as contestants it's your own, everything except what abc is providing you while the show is on going .

I have never heard of any of the contestants getting paid to be on the show, regardless where they finished in the line up...and certainly not getting paid more to finish 3rd then for being the lead! That just does not make sense. They all get goodie bags with clothes, etc. when on the show and we have been told that on the bachelor, the final 2 will get a dress for the FR ceremony, but anything else is what they earn post show for appearances and any schilling they do.

This website just does not sound reliable at all. It goes against everything we have been told in the past.

I think that might have been the amount paid for being the bachelor and doing all the promo work with it. Every other F1-F4 have always said they were not paid as contestants. I could be wrong, but YouTube like the rest of the Internet has been known to get their facts wrong. Is there any mainline news source to back this up?

Yeah. So Ben got $213,000 for being F3, then the F2 (Nick) would have gotten even more and F1 (Shawn) would have gotten the most, and yet when he becomes the lead, Ben would only get $100,000? Sorry, totally defies logic.

Not to mention that they got his birth year wrong, so I think they're just makin' stuff up.

Certainly fails the sniff test. No way , no how this is true imo. What lead wouldn't negotiate for at least the same amount as that stated F3 placement. Ludicrous !

That article is likely wrong. First of all, they have his birth year wrong. Ben was born in 1989, not '88. Most leads are the previous season's F3, so that doesn't make Ben special at all. Leads get paid. I've heard it ranges anywhere from 50K to 200K depending how much they want you. Contestants aren't paid at all. If you are F1, I'm sure you get paid for appearances with the lead as the "couple." And of course SM endorcements can be quite lucrative. Ben and Lauren have only done 2 appearances that they may have been paid for (Colts cheerleading audition and potentially Little 500). Also, they may have been paid for GMA and parts of their press tour, not sure though. The endorcement deals for these two, are so far, non-existent. If they do take some money opportunities, good for them. Strike while the iron is hot! That being said, both seem to want to just go back to normal work and lives, and I respect that.

I didn't know that the contestants earn money from the show. I've heard that the $ varies for each lead (gender bias it seems) as well but no specific salary.
