Sorry - and thanks GA for fixing that. I had multiple posts I wanted to comment on stacked up together and had to try and edit out other quotes to get back to the original poster and obviously messed that one up.

Something that has been bothering me about the preview for the upcoming (and final) episode is the bathroom conversation and what bothers me is that I have a problem believing it's real - I think what we hear is edited to create a certain perception and support a certain story line - and the reason I don't think it's real is a technical one - starting with the fact that many (including me) think it sounds like it was recorded in a bathroom.

What makes words spoken in a bathroom sounds like a bathroom is the acoustic signature of a bathroom. The hard tiled floor and walls in a bathroom create an echo (called reverb) - the sounds made by a voice bounce off the tiled walls and return back to your ear (or to a microphone) a little bit later than the primary sound wave (called delay) and then bounce off another wall - diminished in volume each time they bounce (called decay) - until they finally fade to the point where they are inaudible. In the "old days" before DSPs (Digital Signal Processors) were fast enough to process audio in real time, if a sound engineer wanted some audio to sound like it was in a bathroom they actually built a small room with a tiled floor and walls and recorded in that room. But today they do the processing in software. One example of such software is Adobe Audition which can create all sorts of audio environments using the reverb effect:

The Reverb > Reverb effect simulates acoustic spaces with convolution-based processing. It can reproduce acoustic or ambient environments such as a coat closet, a tiled bathroom shower, a concert hall, or a grand amphitheater.

Now here's the problem I have. We've talked about the fact that there are no mics in bathrooms (for obvious modesty reasons) but a bathroom only sounds like a bathroom if the mic is actually inside the bathroom and can pick up the echos off the wall with typical bathroom characteristics. Put the mic outside of the bathroom and IMO it may sound muffled a bit (especially if the door is closed) but it will no longer sound like a bathroom.

I think they took some audio - selected to fit a story line - and ran it through a DSP to make it sound like it was in a bathroom - and played that audio track over the visual scene of a bathroom to make it look like a scene that makes sense.

We heard him say that - but since they were in the bathroom all we saw was the closed bathroom door, so we didn't see him say that. I can't be certain that he actually said that when he was in the bathroom; technically it could have been said anytime, processed through a DSP to make it sound like it was said in a bathroom, and edited into the scene showing the closed bathroom door.

TPTB are world class masters at connecting video with audio and making it seem like they go together when in fact the audio came from a completely different time and place than the video. Technically, this is stupid easy to do and it doesn't take any talent to do it - the "art" comes into making it seem believable.

ETA - separate from the technical issues to me is that very part of the conversation. We hear a whispered voice say "I need something from you". To me a logical conversational reply would be "What do you need?" - not "I'm sitting here on a bathroom floor"

I am wondering if Ben's Mom said all this after she had met JoJo and before meeting Lauren. Has is been sleuthed who had the first date? They could have edited out of the conversations, other things Ben's Mom said, like: "but I have not met Lauren yet." It would totally change this itm and conversation.
