Oh you want a good book on the Galveston Hurricane ( by the way, folks around here still talk about it. Yes, Galveston still has never recovered), Issac's Storm by Eric Larson. That book is so riveting. I promise, you cannot put it down. Another book for me to recommend ( I am a librarian as well as a historian) is The Dream and the Deal by Jerre Mangione. It is about the Federal Writers' Project ( part of the WPA in the 1930's) and also a small part of my dissertation topic.
Thanks! The book I read was "Issac's Storm". We went on a cruise out of Galveston last November which was the first time since I'd read up on the Hurricane. We did a haunted Segway tour and they took us through a cemetery and all I could think about was all those people who lost their lives at that time. So sad.

I am reading "Girl on a Train". Nice read so far.
ETA: So I just completed this book. I even went back to re-read parts. It is very Gone Girl-esque. I would recommend.

Re: Books - Discussion
Mean Streak by Sandra Brown
The Night Tales Collection by Nora Roberts
Low Pressure by Sandra Brown
The Witness by Nora Roberts
I think I have read every book Sandra Brown has written and she is my favorite author and I have also read a lot of Nora Roberts books as well.
Another good book that I enjoyed was "All Night Long" by Jayne Ann Krentz
I like the Suspense Romance Novels and with Sandra Brown's you are kept in suspense until close to the very end.

Nora Roberts books are good. Danielle Steel is another author whose books I enjoy as well.

If anyone likes suspense books I just finished reading "Cold Cold Heart" by Tami Hoag and it was a very good read - hard to put down.

Just finished reading Wonder by R.J. Palacio to my fifth graders. Wow! Not shocking it has won numerous awards. Six different voices tell the story of August. It is a quick read and I promise, you won't be disappointed. Auggie has found a way into our hearts....my fifth graders could not WAIT for me to read each day.
We are now reading the next book, which is not a sequel but offers insight into three other characters from the book.
Let me know what you think.

Ohhh, you're a find on this thread! I love non-fiction and both your recommendations sound exactly the type of reads I enjoy.
If you're looking for a book that may change your thinking and even your life, I highly recommend Just Mercy. it's about a law student whose summer internship has him visiting an inmate on death row. The student is scared shxxless as he doesn't feel prepared to address the inmate. The book follows this first introduction through the end and is about the student becoming an attorney and founding a non-profit that represents cases on death row. He has successfully pleaded 5 cases before the Supreme Court. His organization also represents adolescents tried as adults, and if convicted, end up in solitary confinement. My son's friend went to hear the author speak and was very moved. It reinforced her passion for practicing law for the marginalized.
