I understand the parallels with Byron's season. But I dont necessarily think it means that Nick has to be F1 like Mary was.

If Nick ends up F1 like Mary, it will scream as staged or default to me. I'd hate that for Kaitlyn. I'd rather she get to walk away alone instead of a fake relationship with the F1.

Personally, I hope she picks someone besides Nick, even if it costs me the one in a million chance with that contestant (read: Ben H).

ITA, tigertiz. It seems to be a possibility but that's all we know right now.

I think Kaitlyn will pick the guy she sees herself with and it doesn't really matter what we think.  We have no reason to think her picking Nick (if she did) would be anything other than her choice imo. Ditto with the other guys.

Oh honestly if she pics Nick, I will believe this season was staged. No one can tell will be able to convince me otherwise either.

I didn't watch Byron's season.
Was Mary brought in alone or with others?
Was she/were they brought in later because Byron wasn't developing any connections with the women who were there or because it was staged?

I do agree that any lead is better off in RL choosing no one than getting engaged to someone because it is expected by fans.  I've always disliked the engagement aspect of the show.  It is my number 1 sore spot.

Mary was bought in with another girl.

When sleuthing was in full swing during the last season of the 'ette whom I dislike, there were pictures that surfaced that perhaps she and her F1 met twice prior to filming in a bar, later admitted by both of them. We also had rumours they met at a hotel. It appeared at that time, staging wasn't a big deal. It wasn't for me because I didn't care for the lead.

I see no difference here, or in any previous season where it may have happened.

I don't see how it can be a for sure thing when they hardly know each other.

There was speculation that Bryon wasn't feeling it for any of the others but it was early in the season, epi 3, so it's hard to say. I don't like the engagement at the end of the show either but viewers seem to expect it these days.

What if she genuinely likes/loves Nick the best? I hate that default term. It gets thrown out way too often- especially before we have even seen what transpired.

Mary came on with one other former contestant who was eliminated right away- can't remember her name. There was lots of spec at the time he wasn't feeling it with any of his existing women, so that's why Mary was brought in. Who really knows for sure. Regardless, domestic abuse and alcoholism aside, those two lasted 5 years, so that was no default, and "staged" or not, it worked.

All the similarities, starting with Kaitlyn being chosen as bachelorette then at the last minute adding in Britt (even though she never had a chance), make is seem like they are following the template from Byron's season. I call shenanigans. Obviously the majority of the show is staged but who the leads end with is usually a natural progression and not something that was determined pre-season. If she ends with Nick, I'm sure many will question if this was planned from the get-go.

I agree, it will be questioned. It will be questioned regardless of where Nick ends up. 
He knew that going in... and so did she.  They are both show veterans.
