Re: The Bachelor Australia - Season 2 - Blake Garvey - ATFR - *Spoilers* - Media & Social Media Discussion #2
Thanks mercieme! And yes, Allaboutlove, I know you all have been discussing many different scenarios and have ran the gamut on the various possibilities of why/ how etc . Blake did what he did! Haha You have all kept me busy reading for hours on end! I too have read/ listened to interviews quite thoroughly...I heard him say he was in love but realized it was friendship/ mates as they spent the few days in Africa together. Can you direct me to an interview where he says he only felt friendship during the process? Ah well...I guess I'm just a softie.. I always make my children "be kind" even to mean people! Sometimes they need it more Carry on with your party:)
At 2:18 in the interview, Blake says at the end (they are talking about leading up to the proposal) that he felt like Sam was just his best mate. He talks about proposing to Sam, and he had said she was the only one he was in love with and then as the cameras stopped rolling he says that it was good to just "hang out" with Sam. For someone who has just proposed to the love of his life, "you are the one for me. I have no doubts. I have only been in love with one person, and that is you Sam" ... and having Sam say yes to the proposal, exhausted or not, you would think Blake would have been in a state of bliss since it was right after proposing that they spent time together. But he refers to this just as hanging out. This does not match up with being in love with just one person. If he had said he was in love with many that would be different but he had told the person he was only in love with that he wanted to marry her and now he just wanted to hang out as mates? Again, I understand being exhausted etc, but I don't understand how he didn't have any physical interest in her right after proposing to her?
He says he just felt like he was hanging out with his mate and when they met up in a hotel it was not exactly the best place to be. Kyle said it would be great for most couples to be in a hotel away from cameras. I agree with this assessment. I obviously can only conjecture, but not to even try to want to have something intimate with the person you are so in love with seems... odd. I think that is why speculation has been made about his sexual preference (which if he is, that is just sad is what I feel if he cannot be that.. not that I believe or even know he is. He is a sensitive person after all). And it could be totally incorrect. Talking about that seems very insensitive because that is a personal thing. We only alluded to it because things just don't add up as they usually do with TB break ups and the reasons given. To be in love and yet not even wanting physical intimacy? At all? Blake wanted to 'hang out' with Sam once the cameras had gone rather than 'make out'? This speaks volumes to what he said about it not being romantic/sexual between him but just mates. And it was the day and few days after he proposed that he was feeling this way.
If Blake went into this just to act and put on a show, he did a great job, IMO. And I do not fault him for doing so. We all do things for different reasons. I guess I just cannot fathom how someone can be in love... the words in love certainly are of romantic in nature and not best mates, and yet not even want to have any physical intimacy as it was uncomfortable since he felt like she was just his best mate? I understand Blake saying he loves Sam, just as he said he felt a lot of love for all the women, but being IN love is romantic love. It is not best mate love. That is why things don't make sense.
P.S. You are a wonderful mother for teaching your children to be kind. It is the best virtue to have!

Thank you Allaboutlove! I agree that if this is the case, actions certainly do not follow up the loving words! As I said, sadly, this was my all time fav bachelor season right up until the finale! dang

I guess I go back to Sam and Blake's date on the yacht in South Africa. The way he touched her was definitely romantic/physical/sexual in nature. To have that switch off as soon as he proposed is strange.
If anything, they are still in the bubble together while they are in South Africa post-proposal. They haven't been separated from one another at all for feelings to dissipate. In fact, that is why I expected things to heat up even more between them. Especially given that he said she is the one for him, he has only been in love with her (and I believed it from what I saw). They were not in "reality" yet after the proposal... because they were still together, just the two of them. The only difference was there was no more filming them together.
So it is strange how he is romantically in love one day and the next he is not. You can love someone and not feel romantically in love with them. But Blake said he loved Sam AND was in love with her. Basically she was his best friend and someone he felt romantic (in love) with. I can see him changing his mind while away from her, but right after proposing and saying he was in love (romantic love) and then the next day(s) he isn't?
It doesn't add up. It would if it happened after leaving South Africa and that is what I expected if anything negative would occur. I didn't expect it to happen immediately after proposing since they were in the bubble still when they spent time together. I mean, the love of your life just said yes!
Oh well... it is what it is... haha. I do feel that they had something special. Whether it was acted, real, or just soulmate platonic love, it was there and it seemed undeniable, bubble or not. I would understand Blake's motives better if he, as Sam said, even tried or, for me personally, didn't say he was IN love with Sam if he wasn't feeling romantic about her.

It makes me angry that he says he got caught up in the moment and that's why he proposed when he clearly planned to from the start. He said so many times during the show "my future wife" could be here. I think the outcome of the final two would be so different if Jess wasn't so against the idea of marriage. He knew she would say no and that's why she went home.
I've often wondered if the Bach/ette gets a 'bonus' if certain milestones are met during filming, e.g. proposal, getting one of the finalists to say "I love you", etc. We have seen many references to Blake doing the show for the $$. If so, dumping Jess because he couldn't get her to 'yes' and taking Sam along instead fits into the theory of doing the show for financial gain.
I've always thought so. Emily dragging an ILY out of Sean comes to mind. They smile for the cha-ching, not the sentiment.

It doesn't make sense that Sam gave Blake chance after chance to let her go... asking if he really knew her or would be disappointed. Blake seemed so sure, especially since she brought this up again and again. So it is odd he changed his mind the day after proposing.

I concur. Whenever Sam had doubts during the show, he would assure her, every, single, time. Not to mention how Blake was all "Why is she having doubts about us?" during the HTD, and it seemed like he was annoyed at her for even having the slightest doubt. It was about him and his bruised ego all the time. He wasn't sympathetic towards her at all. How does one fall out of love with someone after ONE DAY is beyond me, especially after you've just declared your love for them, and especially since you haven't even been a couple at all. The "bubble" excuse doesn't cut it for me.

I finally watched the final. I am so confused by the things he said. I can only imagine how confused Sam must be. He was so sure. SO SURE. Except for that fact that he cried A LOT when Lisa left.
Someone questioned my intentions. I was just telling a friend I sincerely wanted him to find happiness. I wanted them to have their fairy tale ending.

Sam in on Dan and Maz. She thinks she was naive. She doesn't believe that he was genuine on the show

Sam said she has been hurt the most by the proposal. She just said she jokes and says to her sister 'remember that time I was engaged for 20 minutes'. They spent two nights together in South africa. They shared a hotel room but she is denying they slept together. I actually believe her. She joked that she has blocked his number. She doesn't want to be a bachelorette. She is not dating. She doesn't know of blake is seeing anyone.

Neither does it cut it for me because they were still in the bubble right after he proposed. They spent days at a hotel together post-proposal and he changed his mind? While in the bubble? They hadn't separated or gone into the real world yet.
Anyway, I think if all my analysis is wrong, I go back to him seeing an opportunity and taking it - playing a role. It would explain why he (if he didn't as it appears to be the case) have sex with anyone. Just kiss/makeout. That could have been a prior agreement to him going on the show for financial gain (whether there was someone before, during, or after filming then doesn't matter because he was doing a role on set). He doesn't seem to care about gaining a following at all so it could be he was paid to act, played the sensitive role of falling for the girl who doesn't know how beautiful she is, proposing and having that fairy tale ending. Blake even used words like "characters" when we "wrapped filming" etc... to describe his experience. Barring issues, I can see him acting the role, putting his heart and soul into it, wrapping the show, and now doing his 'publicity tour' of the show where he uses the same narrative to propel the story forward. It can also be part of a large narrative to have the jilted girl find a real love story now. And I see Blake being totally okay with how things have played out because as he said while watching the show 'he is his own worst critic'. To me that means he saw it no differently than an actor looking at the finished product after they have been on set. Thus, he would be just fulfilling he publicity tour as all movie actors do, making the rounds to promote, etc... and the breakup was all part of that narrative/act and planned. Think about it. Why did he look switched off in the Woman's Day photos with Sam which were taken right after proposal? Maybe that wasn't him being switched off but rather playing another role of the switched off (don't have this feeling anymore, I've forgotten what I started fighting for....) so there would be evidence of his changing feelings. He obviously wasn't even pretending to be into Sam in that photo shoot. So either heartless (or other issues we brought up) or acting a role and still acting a role until he fulfills his contract. If he was in on all this and played the role he wouldn't be too upset. This latest radio interview shows that he really is just fine with how things are and makes me think that it really was a role. He did great if so.
