I think Nutty's description above is of a "real man".
I think a "manly man" is more to do with a physical look or hobbies/interests/talents/job of a man.
I think a "man's man" is more to do with a man who other men like to be around because of his personality, wit, charm, and/or swag.
But mostly I'm just talking off the top of my head here.

If manly is big muscles, watching sports all the time, and a guy feeling like he has to protect his "woman", then I'll pass!!
I think what makes a man is personality more than looks. Confident, but not aggressive. Loving, but not oppressive. Supportive, but not doting. A great sense of humor, but not the class clown. Willing to compromise, but not wimpy. And thankful for all the life around him.
Oh, I love the way you described what makes a man. Perfection...
Nutty, fantastic definition of a man!
"Manly man" as defined by http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Manly+Man
"A man who is comforable in his own skin, but doesn't use skin care products. Someone who drives a vehicle with "muscle" But knows where to draw the line. i.e.- you won't need a ladder to get in. A man who loves women, but not all at the same time. *see playa. Protective but not overly aggresive. Prefers big dogs over cats. Masculine sans machismo. Hetero sexual, period. Soap? Irish Spring, of course.
Brad Pitt is not a manly man but George Clooney and Paul Newman are. "
My vote is for Nutty's definition which would include Brad Pitt, & Nicholas Viall.

Then, I will take one "real man" over any manly man or man's man any day!

So I went to the same source and looked up Real Man but I didn't like their definition. I looked up Man's Man, and I like it so much better:
Man's Man
Who is the Man's Man? He's the real class act. He always shaves and wears clothes that fit. He's worldly, educated, and a gentleman. He thinks that buttoned shirts are not just for special occasions and that newspapers have more than one section. While he is polite, he is not a pushover. He will swear when he needs to, but will try to control his temper. He can handle his liquor and keeps himself in shape. Most importantly, he will admit his faults and errors, because that is what real men do. He don't have to be gay or straight, black or white, Republic or Democrat, Athiest or Evangelical; he just does what ever he thinks makes himself a good person that he can be proud of. For these reasons, women want him and men want to be him.
Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, Denzel Washington are all examples of a Man's Man.
Do we think Nick is a Man's Man? in my book
