I posted this comment on another thread.  Inspired by Mura who noted that Nick wants all the time he can get with Andi and Chris and Des happily took part in deception.... so I took it to mean that Mura was also suggesting that based on past seasons where contestants have been stalked maybe Nick was convinced by TPTB that by sending out a fake video claiming he was F2 would provide him with more freedom to move around unnoticed, under the radar so to speak....  If that's the case, its a win win for the franchise - fool RS and have a legitimate reason for it.

If he agreed to do it then he compromised his integrity.  But his fan believed it was fake and they forgot that it didn't portrait him well in that light.

I could believe this IF he was getting a better edit.  TPTB has to "sell" a love story that people want to get behind and route for.....I recently read the comments posted on facebook after the Tricky Nicky preview was released.....It is brutal!

TPTB want to keep an element of surprise... and therefore use editing all the time to deceive the viewers

There is no question that the plane vid has been one of the most powerful tools of any season I have watched in terms of framing the season and shifting the focus away from what happens in any epi.  It punctuates - adds a ? behind everything he does and also everything Andi writes in her blogs about their relationship.

I believe that TPTB would love to discredit RS's reputation in regards to the validity of his spoilers.
As to what lengths they would go to in order to do this, has yet to be seen.

The general public (meaning those who don't sleuth) may not have been as aware of the Des/Chris/Brooks spoiler as they are about this season's broadcast spoiler.
Therefore, that season may not have afforded the same 'Kaboom' towards RS's reputation as TPTB may have hoped for.

However, I am sure Des' season did give TPTB a taste of what blindsiding RS would feel like.

Yes, RS was blindsided by the Chris/Des season and TPTB experienced the sweet taste of victory but it did not produce the magnitude of what a full-scale, discrediting 'Kaboom' would have on RS.

TPTB didn't win against RS in court so, 'back to the drawing board'.
One of these seasons - not saying this one - I am expecting TPTB to produce the 'Mother of All Blindsides' against RS.   

So, having said that, a foiler and wonky edit may not be so much about deceiving the public but to let the public know, loud and clear:
1. NOT to trust RS and reported spoilers in the future, since he is not reliable and
2. that anything can happen on the show and to expect the unexpected.
After all, wasn't that part of the initial allure of this show… keep everybody guessing as to which shoe would step out of the limo first? (signifying the 'loser' in all cases but one- Jesse Palmer's season)

With RS's F1 spoilers, that element of a Surprise Ending - is being lost.
Not to mention the anticipated revenue coming from a Surprise Ending, obviously racking up the ratings numbers.

Disclaimer -
For the record- I don't hate RS.   
He has formed a niche, his own unique existence in the atmosphere of reality TV.
We can't despise him simply because he exists and functions in that realm.
Even bottom dwellers have their value as a necessary function in the ecosystem of life.
And now don't misquote me- I did NOT call RS a bottom dweller…  :hidingchair 
I simply made an analogy… something like Haus Frau.
