ITA.  The way he tried to pass blame onto Clare would be more of a red flag to me if I was his F1 than the actual incident.  I am not a fan of Clare's but I will defend her in this situation.  There were 2 of them there, and as the lead he is the one that should have put a stop to things.  After the way he singled her out on the group date, she had every right to think of herself as special.  With a little encouragement from production, she probably thought he wanted to see her.

What if he talked to her about it because of that toast? That may have made him extremely uncomfortable if that was her delusional version of what was happening. He may have thought he needed to put a lid on her before she started (more directly) telling the other girls.

Is talking about his people's blog considered a spoiler here?

Was the toast in bad taste? For sure! But IMO he came off like a jerk last night. I don't like Clare, but I can't stand it when women are automatically blamed in these situation. He should be bearing equal if not more of the blame since he is the lead and holds the "power" in that relationship.

Question to those that watched Bens season with Courtney :  How much of a storyline were they starting to build around the same time in the season with Courtney ? Was it just drama with her or were there other conversations at all ?

Except for the princess and daddy talks in episode 1, I have seen absolutely no other conversations with Clare other then her insecurities, flirting and drama. In other words, I see no storyline at all.

I vaguely remember Jesse Palmer's season and his runner-up accusing him of being "inappropriate" on their last chance date. (BTW, he and his F1 split just days after ATFR... if not before.) Yet Jesse also said to a group of ladies on one date that the reason he did the show was because he was bored waking up with a different face every morning... or something equally stupid. Can't remember the exact words. In any case, we didn't SEE Jesse do anything "inappropriate" on screen and he repeatedly turned down "Trashy" Trish's advances even when she crashed his F3's (forgot her name) fantasy date in her high heels.

So if Clare is not F1 and they want to make Juan look like a monk, it is so easy to snip away!

Needless-to-say, Clare is the only one WITH a storyline. Daddy died and she has spent the last decade watching Golden Girls. The competing gals think she is too "old" even though she, Renee and Juan are practically the same age. The silly editors in Countdown To Juan Pablo even included a shot of a potential contestant talking about her eggs in her demo tape right before a key Clare scene. Something about Juan has "awakened" her. Now she is made to feel slutty by his mixed-up Spanglish and will return to her Ice Princess state.

Juan "acts" all paranoid that little Camilla will some day get scared of the bedroom monster at the wrong time and barge in... or catch a glimpse of this show inbetween DVDs of Dora the Explorer.  Note that I put that verb in quotation marks. Camilla is just a stupid excuse he had to drum up simply to cool off things until fantasy overnight nighty-night. He wouldn't kiss Lauren and Renee because of his daughter... then dumped the one and did the tongue "where's my gum?" thing with the other. Probably because she and Nikki are the only ones still "in the dark" and The Show Must Go On. As Andi says, sucking face (her words) with Juan makes her forgetful. Oh Juan Boy, you are a piece of work, but at least we know how you can string them along!

Actually, last night I started questioning if both Sharleen and Andi leave on their own. That is the direction BOTH of their edits seem to be going. That group date almost became a Dunkirk had he not successfully made them "forgetful". Nikki is the only one committed to carrying on, but there is something peculiar in their body language. I can't place what it is exactly. That and the slight-but-detectible smirks she and the now gone "free spirit" Lucy often show in their PI sessions, as if they are in on something that viewers aren't. Hmmm... I need time to think about this.

Regarding Ben Flajnik: he was asked by a fan at the end of Bachelor Pad... and this was left in the edit... if he will find love as the Bachelor. He answered that is what "they want". How else can you justify THAT attitude? What was interesting about Courtney is that she tried to discuss things with him on their last chance date and he kept brushing it away with an "it doesn't matter" attitude. Were they in love with each other? I don't know. There were some tears at ATFR. She always said she "cared for him". Her edit was so over-done with the "it is all about winning", but the reality was that her only genuine conflicts were with Kacie B. (a firecracker in Sean's season) and maybe two or three others. The whole season was so bizarre that I don't even know if we can use it to compare other seasons with.

Regarding their Skinnydip, "bare" in mind that both Ben and Courtney were proud to flaunt their bottoms to the camera. Ben also did it in his vineyards and... we think... was the culprit requiring the black bar in Ashley's Bachelorette Men Tell All montage. For some reason, I don't quite get that same reading with Juan and Clare... although HE is more of a prude than she is. Yet he is on his hands and knees begging in his promos that "this is what I need... this is what I want" as if he gave mixed signals and hurt somebody's confidence in him.

Not sure if it is coffee or tea I crave . As you can tell I do get what you are saying, mostly. Just in case Princess Clare will trump his existing Valentina.

Let's put it differently here, shall we? Some on the other thread... maybe you too... think Juan is throwing Clare under the bus. Well... in a way, yes. Camilla is not allowed under the bus so she can watch.

At limo time, Juan said upon Nikki's arrival that "this limo is on fire!"

Now... how many times did he mention fire in Spanish last night?

based on his blog, I still think we are in for a few surprises before this season is over with. He's already changed the game several times. As he says he likes to be sneaky.

According to Alli F, the producers choose who goes on what date and the order. They also tell the lead who should get a GDR and also control the order in which roses are handed out at the RC's. The leads are later allowed to make these decisions when they get to the F4 point and onward.

Except Clare's apparently. They made a point of him TELLING Harrison this on camera on the Sunday show before episode #2.

Oh... can you imagine if Ashley took JP instead of Willie Holman on the shot-gun wedding date in Las Vegas? Or Des took Chris to the bridal shop instead of Brooks? Somebody "high up" (and not God, mind you, just the Fleissmeister) carefully orchestrates these things.
