I'll buy that BSG seems to come earlier however I don't quite believe that the guy leaving and Ashley running after isn't later. Her shadow is too long to be early afternoon. I'm also not convinced it's BSG. I still think it could be GSG.

Does it seem to you like the sun is too high to be later?

The clouds are identical when she's running to a previous s/c - that was compared and established to be at the same time

The clouds are completely different in these shots. I don't think the sun is as high in the 2nd one which is why her shadow is so long.





The clouds in the 3rd pic matches the 4th pic where Ashley's running. I know it looks like the sun is high but if it were right over her, the shadows would be different and you'd see it on more than the back of her head. I think the 2nd set of pics is later in the day and therefore not DSG.

Awesome catch, Fleur!!! Evidence is mounting for sure, isn't it?? I honestly don't know at this point how it can be anything other than Ben F2, gets dismissed, JP F1 - engaged/dating/whatever, but F1. And judging by how happy Ash is, I'm sure she's not single

Albean, et.al. Measure from the tip of her bent elbow to her foot that is in front. Then measure the shadow from where the shadow for that foot starts to the tip of the bent elbow (on the shadow). Make it a fraction--the shadow is approximately .75 the length of her body. Then use the chart Living posted on Page 28 of this thread, look in the last column and find approximately .75 (I rounded off--didn't think it was necessary to deal with the decimals). Look to the left and you'll see the chart says it's 1:00. At least that's the way I figured it. You might come up with 2/3 rather than 3/4--but it will still be pretty close.

A quick way is to just take a ruler or a sheet of paper. Lay it on the tip of her elbow on the shadow and the tip of her elbow on her--look at the line of the edge of the paper as it extends upward. This line will point to the sun. Compare this position to straight up for noon. This isn't nearly as accurate as it doesn't account for global position of length of days, but it can give you an idea of the time. If you compare two pictures taken, say, 2 hours apart, you'll really see the difference in the slant of the paper.

I don't think it matches with the shadows but sun or not the pics of the guy leaving and Ashley running after him are clearly later than the one of her watching the plane come in. The clouds are completely different and therefore not anywhere near the time the first guy comes.

Edited to add: Thanks, Beader, but as you see the shadow or sun isn't the thing I'm basing this on although I do think the sky looks different.

Gotcha on the sky. I'd say the time lapse between her watching the plane and her running and crying would be at least 30 minutes. Plane has to do some circling, land, "taxi" to the dock, guy has to get out and get to the FRC site, they do their talking, and he leaves. At least 30 minutes? Probably. We also need to allow for the very windy conditions that day. I'd think the sky could change very fast.

Anyway, I'm shadowed out and going to bed! I'm not a shadow expert and need to just wait and see. I may very well be wrong on the time. I was just having fun trying to figure it out with the charts.

At this point I'm not trying to prove that Ben is the f1 but I don't think it's all been decided by the previews. It's too easy to hear something reasonable sounding and say that's it. Done. I'm not so sure.

This is without me even having my first sip of coffee!

I agree in the last 3 pics, the clouds are the same...not the first one.

I measured with a tape measure, and I am coming up with the shadows being almost equal to her body. Didn't look at the chart yet, to see what that means.

ETA....found the chart from Living....my calculations would make it about 2pm. In my (worthless, haha) opinion, that would fit in with the way the shadows look, again from one of the charts she posted.
Still makes sense that it BSG (F2) guy.

Living, as Vomo runs in a NW direction and the "mountain island" (don't know it's name) off the tip, I would think the sunset would occur at the 10 o'clock position on the sc above, not the 11 o'clock position...am I making any sense?

Remember the sc with GSG and the light was on Ash's left shoulder.




ninu, great job....from what you found and the pics of the sunset, does this confirm my position that the sunset should be over the 'mountain island', more like between 9 and 10 o'clock on the above sc?

I did not use measurments for this SC above, and put the sun to the right of Vomo Lailai to indicate where it would be. My focus was the position of the FRC.

At sunset, the sun is at 10.00. It does not go over the mountain from where Ashley is standing but to the right of the mountain. mentioned.
