So let me get this straight: the producers' idea of great drama, the producers' idea of Brooks' tragic character flaw is.....that he doesn't feel comfortable proposing to Desiree within the context of this show, after like, 3 dates that took place while Desiree was dating other people? If that doesn't say everything about how upside down and backwards this show is, I don't know what will.
I don't blame Desiree for her part in this ridiculousness, though I think she's going to take some hits for buying into the show's party line on the issue of a proposal.
This all screams manufactured storyline to me. Now whether it was manufactured to milk max drama out of Brooks not being as into Desiree as she was him, or manufactured as the only thing that could spice up what has apparently been one of the most obvious F1 situations in show history remains to be seen.
From the excerpts sfrank has posted, they're making Chris sound like the ol' reliable, but not doing a whole lot to make a case for him as F1 for any other reason than being...there. As far as Desiree being torn, according to US Weekly a couple weeks ago, the hometown dates boosted Drew's case and it was between Brooks & Drew. Not Chris. Tabloids aren't that great at remembering what they said in previous issues, but the fact that Brooks & Drew are on the cover is supposed to tell us that either Brooks or Drew is the frontrunner who "rejects" Desiree. The "not settling" comment could be about Brooks, but it could refer to not settling for a guy who couldn't take the heat in the context of the show.
Now it makes sense to me why Life & Style came out with its "Yes! I'm Engaged!!!!!!" cover a week earlier than usual, with fewer details than usual. They were trying to undercut US Weekly's producer-sanctioned cover story this week, which is intended to feed the narrative that Desiree may end up alone. Seeing as this is US Weekly's 2nd Bach'ette cover in 4 weeks, with another secondary feature story mentioned on the cover in another week, it looks like Next Productions has in fact primarily been working with US Weekly this season, and less so Life & Style. That's a change. Next week's tabloid of choice will no doubt be focused on the epic battle for Desiree's heart and the happy ending.
* Disclaimer: My biases: haven't really watched this season but I find Drew to be the physically hottest (though the buying followers thing is lame), and I was just recently admiring Chris S's lovely hands and general attractiveness. The little I watched of this season was of Desiree and Brooks's 1st date, and I found myself thinking Brooks was really sweet and contemplative, though I also got the vibe he was a little bit unanchored in life and maybe has some buttons it would be easy for producers to push (neither of which is a major character flaw, because I ended up liking him and also think he's a good-looking guy). Also, any skepticism he may genuinely have had about proposing would make me like him more, not less.[/b]
Really thoughtful, post, cfck2222. Thanks.
Totally agree with the bolded. Chris, great guy, not memorable... probably going to be gone.
Also interesting comments on US Weekly vs. L&S... makes sense.
My god, Drew, whew! I mean maybe a little stiff on the outside, but molten on the inside - HOT!... and I'm guessing it's Drew that asks the cameras to leave.... since he sort of impresses me as a 'take charge' kind of guy... like he knows what he wants and he's going for it.... and he's going to protect their privacy.
Great post, Sue. I agree Drew is one hot tamale. ; )
One thing that stood out to me the most about the bolded where Chris is concerned is where they said that about him just being there. Sometimes that matters more than anything else on the earth. Sometimes that's the most important thing you could do for somebody.. Not saying in this case, but Brooks should know how much it means to Des ( or any woman) that somebody is there beside her and never leaves her side, since his dad left his mother so therefore left him when he was younger.
It breaks my heart that Chris is being so left out that he's looked at as one of the plants or one of the pretty flowers that you look at, but don't remember when you're telling what all you saw or did. Does that make any sense to you? LOL
Wow, LoveDovez, the bolded about Brooks is a really insightful point. Maybe we are compelled to repeat our history.. or something like that. Still I can imagine it would be a very very emotional experience for Brooks if he were able to make the connection you just did.... Really core personal issue. Very interesting... I guess we'll see how it all plays out.
As far as Chris. I don't think he's being left out... nor do I think Des looks at him like a pretty flower, etc.. For me, it's just that there is more energy, more to work out in her relationships with Drew/Brooks... and as I said before, I do find him forgettable, in a way. Great guy, just more with the other two...

What I don't get is why the show is even trying to hide who it is that 'leaves'. You would have to be brain dead not to figure it out by now with her wearing what she is only with Brooks.
Anything I post means it's Just My Opinion. Don't feel like posting it every time I post. So, I thought I'd get that out of the way.

Brooks, had his dad not left him when he was younger I probably wouldn't have batted an eye that he leaves Des. I've always said they shouldn't make it so they have to get engaged on this show because they really don't know each other well enough in that time span and that I really only watch the show for entertainment purposes.. Ya have to admit it can keep you in stitches at times. LOL. However, that don't mean that I enjoy seeing them get hurt on there.
I'll just have to watch and see what happens that causes Brooks to leave the women that he thinks/knows he's falling in love with. Esp leaving her in this case, where he knows there are two other men ready to snatch her up and marry her in a heartbeat. Like I said, somebody being there for you really matters at the end of the day, esp you knowing they would always be there for you. It just really gives me pause on Des and Brooks lasting long term. I don't really have any doubts that she does choose him, but is she the type that can trust that he'll never leave her again? Is he the type that will one day leave her again when things gets sticky? Only time will tell us that. : ) Let's hope that Brooks doesn't repeat history. : ( .
Oh, I didn't mean that Des was doing that to Chris. I meant the media and TPTB/show, on here and such as that... I do think Des is doing fine by all 3 of them. I feel the same about Chris.. I find him to be good looking, but maybe he just doesn't ring my chime or something like Drew does..I just thought Chris wasn't getting much attention if he's supposed to be F2 or if they want us to think he's F1 or maybe it's that I tune things out about him. LOL. Does that make it clearer on what I meant? : )

Re: Bachelorette 9 - General Media - Discussion
well.... just need to throw my 2 cents on Chris.
they surely made him the only guy with non-dad issues (well, along with Zak ), drama-free, coming from a solid upbringing, get along with all the guys. i.e. well-rounded great guy. He is a character that maybe not interesting enough from Fleissian perspective compared to other guys when it comes to having conflicts with Des. But he surely is playing a solid-rock role for Des, just as JP did with Ash.

It's a sad fact of life in this country that a lot of Dad's leave. It takes a lot to forgive and Brooks did. So, like Desiree said about Brooks, he's a positive guy.

Drew said he would be there for her too and for her to come to him when she needed to.
Desiree said on that group date in Germany that Brooks brought out the best in her in emotional situations and that is why she gave him the group date rose. That he was the one that helped her forget about Bryden. She followed him everywhere during that date.

well, she surely said she needed to get back to Chris so that she can feel happy again...(after Bryden`s saga).
like many have said, she had 3 great guys to choose from....but she would pick the one who is compatible with her most and whom she can see the future with.

I really don't think Brooks is going to tell her that he is not ready to propose. That is not a deal breaker for Des. He said there is nothing he can do to make it right now. It is more serious than he is not ready to propose IMO.

I still remember how I reacted when I read from RS early on that Brooks wasn't ready to get married anytime soon. Then that other spoiler from some other site saying that Brooks was final 1, but didn't propose. I was like 'why accept the roses then'? Everyone knows a no proposal is just reason to save face and dump the person after the show. So, IDK how Desiree viewed it or how Brooks put it.
