Now, however, I think she truly understands that love doesn't have to be a wild, uncontrolled forest fire to be "real" and that the love she has with Chris is the "real" love while whatever she wanted from Brooks wasn't only hollow and empty and based on nothing but the initial burst of flame, but also one-sided. Live and learn and it seems it's finally clicked for her. Compared to Jillian, who only understood it after years and years, Des is a quick learner. Also Brooks did her a favor Ed was too selfish to make by bowing out when he should have.sfrank wrote:atem wrote:I think it totally can work out between Desiree and Chris S. So happy for Desiree though!
I am with you atem! Trista said it best tonight "I hope Des asks herself what she would do if Brooks came back & that the answer is that she would choose Chris". Only Des truly knows the answer to that deep down. I think Chris and Des and a really shot of making it work. Best wishes to them.
It's not that love has to be wild. It's that she lights up when she's around Brooks. When Des and Brooks talk, they are a match made in heaven; it's natural and fun. Brooks is not in love with her, but they have everything else. With Chris it's sweet, kind of BFF. This is the type of love people who have been married for a while have- a soft place to fall. Is she going to miss the excitement that she had with Brooks, or will she be fine with a steady, sweet rock of a guy? Some would call it settling.
Des is basically saying that she went with what she needed instead of what she wanted.

I seem to recall Trista saying something similar about her choice of Ryan, and they seem to have done alright all these years.

True. Ryan didn't have as much edge as Charlie. Charlie was a "bad boy", hence the attraction.
Brooks makes Des light up. Because they had everything else, he was trying to get that feeling.
I'm not trying to be mean. I hope Des and Chris make it.
Maybe MF didn't show the right clips of them together, but as sweet as Chris is, I was bored watching them together. But hey, It's their life.

Also, thought it was interesting that Des had pretapped a silly skit and didn't come back to the show, as finalists normally do and particularly didn't come back with Chris. Finally, the info on GMA and Kelly & Michael also does not indicate that Chris will be joining Des... so this is interesting to me.
Jimmy Kimmel is harboring his own version of sour grapes. He is usually privy of spoilers and when he showcases the new lead does his own version of Karnac as to who the lead picks.
He chose Brooks and glanced over Chris totally. Well, he had pie on his face last night and didn't like it.
Almost reminded me of his frozen smile face when his ex-gf Sarah Silverman with Matt Damon.
Warning questionable language.

They're on GMA right now together.
Chris actually has a job. Maybe he has to work, and doesn't care for camera time. Des has a contract, and has to do shows......?

I thought of Jason's confusion with Melissa and Molly. Is this so different? Only in what we were allowed to see, and how the ending played out on our screens.
I think she did fall for two men and was leaning Brook's direction, but she loved Chris too. Seems she may have loved Chris in a way that is more real than "in the bubble".
So..... I am going to think of this as a Jason and Molly situation that worked out in a kinder way.
I agree with this. I feel it is very similar to Jason's season except Brooks was honest with his feelings (much earlier in the process) and to himself to tell her and leave. People really aren't giving him the kudos for making that very hard decision. I think he is great for not playing along. He said himself that when he was on the dates (bach bubble) he was caught up but when he was away from her (real world) he realized he wasn't in love with her. That is the reality with most of the failures out of this show and Jason/Melissa.
I think that Chris is an amazing guy, he will treat her like a queen and they share a quirkiness that I don't see with others. She doesn't mind his poetry (most hated it) she accepts that he loves her very very much (something she says she has never had) which will be an exciting experience for her to have her first and hopefully last true love. I went back and read her Twitter lastnight after the finale to see if there were any clues and if you pay attention she posted lots of short little rhymes along the way. DUH I totally missed that with my Brooks tunnel vision.
There are plenty of people in the real world who have found comfort in a friend through a breakup and realize the person that has been by your side patiently waiting is the love you can't live with out. Good for them. I thought it was Brooks, it was very very obvious to me that he was the one in her eyes but like she stated she got what she needed not what she wanted and IMO it is the best thing for her since the relationship with Brooks would have failed if he never fell in love with her.
Having and incorrect spoiler was kind of fun too, I know I was on the edge of my seat waiting for Brooks to come back like most of America and then when he didn't everyone was shocked! When MF tweeted his thanks to a special agent I got even more excited that he finally got RS! Sorry that all others got wrong spoilers but good for him! Back to the basics of sleuthing which is FUN!!!

We all have that crush, the one we know we can't quite get, and that chase makes it so much more appealing, but at the end of the day, the one that is real - the one that will endure - is the place we know we belong and if we can find our way there, we are lucky indeed.
Relationships that are on equal footing are the ones that last and I give this one a lot more of a shot than most that come out of this show.
As always, time will tell - but this was looks like it has an actual shot, and I don't say that often. :giggle:
Des had to regroup when Brooks left and she had to accept that what she thought was true wasn't. Perhaps she realized that falling for Brooks was the same as her previous relationships where she wasn't getting the love back. I also hope she realized that it was more infatuation than love. It's one thing to have tingles when you're with someone early in the relationship but then it has to proceed on to a friendship and real love. I hope that she's finding that with Chris and I do think they have a real shot if they can get past all the questions they're going to get thrown at them in the media interviews. Chris seems very sure about the relationship so I imagine they've talked all this through before it came up on the show. Seeing it had to have brought back some feelings on both their parts but they seem to be handling it well.
I'll give Brooks some credit for honesty and hope he's learned something from the experience also. He doesn't appear ready to jump into a relationship but I'm sure he's happy to be finished with the show. I think Drew's well on the way to moving on and has his family & friends to support him. I'm sure he has a lot more fans after last night.

Re: ATFR (Live) - 8/05 - Bachelorette 9 - Discussion and Spoilers
I think MF is so tuned into making a mountain out of a molehill(DRAMA) for the sake of ratings, that even though the viewing audience saw the Brooks show, was it in reality the Brooks' show or was that the editing for ratings?
We got the Bryan show--and that was pffft. Then we got the Bryden show. He could have been dismissed before going to Europe, but he was kept to peak drama. Then we got the James show. So much drama to detract from the real love story. And each week the ratings went up(in a poor ratings season).
In the meantime, the spoilers are fanning the Brooks' flame. After James is dismissed, that's when the Brooks' cliffhangers hit us. The Brooks' campaign.
What if we had not seen an hour of Brooks tv a week ago and saw 10 minutes?
What if we had seen a similar feed as to what Frank did to Ali and were given 30 more minutes of Chris??
Almost everyone thought we saw waaaay to much of Brooks and Des on the pier. What if it had been no longer than the amount of a regular FD and we had been given that time with Drew and Chris? Would the romance had been too evident?
Remember we only saw Chris in the bloopers take outs and usually the bloopers do feature the F1. No Brooks show in the bloopers.
MF has come out time and time again stating this show is not all about a romance. And usually except for the fangirls(not said in a nasty way!), few ever see the romance from what MF allows us to see on screen.
So I guess what I am trying to say, who the hell knows what was left on the cutting room floor that could have indicated much more than what we were shown. MF showed what we saw for ratings. Ratings won out again and not the romance.
I will be interested in seeing what the ratings were from last night and even more interested in seeing how they compare to season's past. A last ditch effort to increase ratings was promoted with releasing next season TB, let's see how this all pans out.
