The premise of this show is to find love, get engaged and get married. It's not a show about two people living together for half a year or a year and then breaking up. That would be more like a dating reality show. What the track record of this show indicates, is that it's not realistic to expect to fall in love forever after just eight weeks. I think most of the time these couples go back into the real world and look at each other and wonder - why am I with this person that I don't even really know?
It is the premise, but I wish it wasn't. I watch hoping for falling in love, not marriage. I wish there wasn't a proposal and if I see people fall in love enough to really give it a go in real life I think it's a success.
Of the recent Bachelorettes I've watched - Jillian, Ali, Ashley, Emily - there were 2 year long relationships where someone moved so they could be together, 1 marriage and one joke (that was likely when she was picked IMO). 3 out of 4 successes is good to me. So all the talk of abysmal tack records really only apply to Bachelors to me. The Bachelorettes are great at picking at last someone they want to try with. I hope for the same from Desiree.
Right. It's the "premise" but it's a TV show. Everyone knows that the proposal really means "let's begin a committed relationship" Some work out, some don't.
Some seasons have really failed: Jen Scheft for example, Brad Womack, Jesse Palmer, Lorenzo, Emily.
But if the couple actually moves to the same city and fall/stay in love in real life, I'd say that the show can make a love connection, even if they don't end up marrying.

I can't see her accepting Brooks if he comes back - no matter what he says. He has not come through for her - and he has left her sad and miserable ! I also think some of the tears could be that it is so hard for her to say goodbye to any of these last guys - it's easy to understand that she would not want to continue - it's just too hard. I think her F1 will be Chris - he is fun, active, caring, spontaneous, comforting, and has a wonderful sense of humor etc. Brooks has the look of a romantic - tall dark and handsome etc - but he does not seem to be spontaneous, seems more to be led by Des and most importantly seems unsure - which is not a good basis for this relationship. I admire that he admits this and bows out -- If Des wasn't interested in Chris - she did not need to have all the dates and private times in the bedroom and on the rooftop with Chris --
first *none of us know if Brooks tells her this or that, if he backs out or if she tells him to leave, or god forbid she says go away, I can't think about that now. many assumptions are being made as to what Brooks may or may not be feeing, how Des may or may not love him enough, etc.
second *as to the highlighted and underlined above... Des has signed a contract and she will do what they tell her or stand to be in breech of that contract. she would not be the first "lead" told they have to continue on. my goodness, even Brad was forced to continue when his heart was not there and he wanted to end it. the leads do what they have to in order to fulfill their end of the bargain.
I think Ben and Ashley rubbing suntan lotion over each other looked pretty hot at the time, and we know she had her mind totally set on JP by that time.
They have to lead others on. I am always amazed when, post show, people get mad at the lead for leading on the others…..it is the show, they must do that. I am sure they'd also all rather not have the F2 guy/girl come to the FRC. But some are made to. I think they let Emily let Arie go early, because they wanted to show us Jef meeting Ricki And if he met her and Arie didn't, well, that was a dead giveaway.

It IS just a TV game show. I would guess that most of the people who watch this show don't necessarily watch each week...don't get wrapped up in any of the spoilers and certainly not the sleuthing....don't give a rat's a$$ what happens after the show is over because, frankly, the show is over!! So, to see the premise as being just a TV game show is the way it is edited and shown. Fleiss doesn't make any money after the show has aired. Their contract doesn't include having to make a serious "go" of a real life relationship.
For me, once the show is over I will start looking forward to the next Bachelor season. If Des and ? make it, that will be nice, but I am not going to follow their every move like some of the SeanCats are doing. In fact, that kind of obsession creeps me out and almost repulses me. (Sorry if you are in that crowd and you take offense). It would be great for Des to find someone who loves her and makes all of her crying worthwhile. I'm afraid that Des may have to live through some ugly backlash depending on the final storyline and her decision.

albean99 wrote:I've never agreed with the premise of the show and would prefer no "romantic' proposals but I believe it's what the viewers want. In the days of spoilers it seems even more likely because more people focus on the f1 and their interactions than ever before. I was a huge fan of Ian in Meredith's season but there were tons of Matthew fans who didn't see what I was seeing. No matter what people say, it's my belief that it's more likely that we tend to like someone more than we would normally when they're the spoiled f1. It doesn't mean you wouldn't like them anyway but it happens much sooner IMO. I remember being shocked when I was spoiled around epi 3/4 in Emily's season because Jef wasn't even on my radar. Of course there are exceptions but more with the Bachelors like Ben & Jake. YMMV
I agree Albean, even if it is subconsciously.
And I also think your sleuthing tends to take you in that direction of your favorite, even if people deny it. I think there are not too many true totally objective sleuthers, many have a favorite of some sort.
That said, I fully admit to likng Brooks…for Des…but I also think Drew and Chris are awesome guys!! She cannot go wrong with any of them, and I hope she is happy, and I hope her and her F1 can make it outside the bubble, if it is meant to be!

I agree...There's just no way they can complete a season without the lead leading somebody on which is a part I can't stand. It's my understanding TPTB insinuated to Ben that Ashley was choosing him...That's why he was in total shock when she said no. I was so upset for him, it was hard to enjoy the real proposal..It was so heart wrenching watching his heart break into pieces. So here we go again ...I just know TPTB have played a number on Brooks and who knows who else at this point ...nutty1 wrote:latergator wrote:CHO wrote:I think Des is heartbroken by Brook's telling her that he can't commit - he's just not feeling it strong enough to propose. In the written episode guide about Brook and Des. When Brook is talking to his mom and sister. She said that she felt Des would fit right into their "large, boisterous family".
Then when Wet Paint had the article with Des about her wedding. Her comment was this.
“I care more about the marriage itself than an extravagant wedding,” Desiree told InTouch Weekly, “so I want it to be small and intimate".
I don't see a marriage to Brook could be small and intimate. I know it doesn't have to be a big production even if you have a big family. But for some reason JMO I don't know if Brook's family would want anything other than big.
With Drew's family I could see that.
She could have meant she didn't want the huge made for and shown on tv wedding that others have had. IMO a smaller bach wedding would mean no cameras or 100 people from past seasons or production members at your wedding. I could be wrong but this "clue" in no way changes my mind for her being or not being with Brooks. Monday needs to hurry up! I think we will get a ton of answers in the 1st part even if we don't get the full story!

Ex-cons? Do you mean ex-cast?
