Last time out, the surprise ending was that Des (like Ashley and Ali) DID find love in the end.  That's the doubt they went for this year too -- I think they realize that rating go up if people think they might be tuning in to a train wreck.  Otherwise, they just get about 3 million people who want to watch two people in love, and say "AWWW", and another 3 million who want to root for a favorite to "win".  Teasing a train wreck picks up market share net/net ... some of the romantics may walk away, but it becomes more sporty/co-ed TV-fare if there's a "shocking" ending with more suspense to pull viewers in than "which one" is picked.

What's fun about teasing a train wreck is that you may get the twist that in fact "love happened," or you can watch a train go off the tracks, and somewhat less predictable live TV.

So, this Nikki deleted scene sets that tension up beautifully.

The way I see it, is TPTB are pushing him to feed these women a line and he doesn't want to do it so he uses the songs. The lie won't be coming out of his mouth. I don't see it being any worst than saying you're in love with two women. Nikki acknowledges even with the song he could still not choose her.

One of the things the producers do in the ITMs, especially late, is introduce doubt- especially to F1- to get some dramatic moments.  At the same time, F2 is continually encouraged to think she is "the one" to get the major letdown at the FRC.  So I believe that to get Nikki to say "a****le" they have just asked her, "what if Juan Pablo doesn't choose you?"  That's the thing... we never see the questions they are asked when they give the ITM.

I still like JPG, I like that he wasn't willing to play their game.  To me playing them both a love song that basically says he loves them and wants to be with them is an error in judgement.  Yes other leads have done it, I don't like it when they do it either.  I have made fun of the fact how romantic it is to hear your fiance say he loves someone else the day he proposes to you.  To me this makes him like the others.  I kind of liked all the times he refused to be like the others and play the TPTB game.

One difference here:
Clare's song was chosen by TPTB because they hired the musician for the first 1-1 date
Nikki's song was chosen by JP
