Maybe he isn't getting away. He is Mormon, after all. If he's an active Mormon then he's not going to want to get away and spend a weekend with a woman, unmarried. It's a big no-no. It's just not right or good in our books. Maybe they're just maintaining a long distance relationship until they can date out in the open.
This is curious to me...don't know a lot about Mormonism but can anyone be truly an "active" Mormon and come on the show?! You can hold hands and kiss but not passionately, right? Brooks and Des kisses look pretty passionate to me. And no alchohol, right? Also, I imagine fantasy suites would be a no no too! At least according to RS, they all go so...maybe thats the religion he identifies with but he is not active. Kinda like me being "Catholic" with a live-in boyfriend. :halo:

Yup, in his thread it was discussed. He was there just before the show started airing. Week of 5/19.
Also both he and Des were quite in social between last thurs. and over the weekend but it could be coincidental too!

Totally agree. Like they have to follow some norm. #RoadtripsRocks

May be that explains the bashed in car hood! She ran into a wayward deer on the way to Utah!

Both seem very adventurous....maybe they spend time in a secluded hiking/camping spot? The couple that can camp together...can stay together in my book.

You can kiss all you want. It's the petting and the pre-marital sex that is a big no-no. Staying with a woman for the weekend would not look good to his friends, family and associates and he would know that. Avoid the appearance of evil, you know. And living with someone of the opposite sex is frowned on. Of course, anyone can do whatever they want, but if you're truly active you just wouldn't do it and would want to avoid the appearance that you're doing something you shouldn't. Rolling around on the floor and kissing, like Jef did, looks a little bad. Brooks hasn't done that.
No alcohol. I don't know that I've really seen Brooks with any. If he has had it maybe he just held it to "toast" like they do at the end. Maybe he's drinking apple juice, . One thing is for sure, the guys know he's Mormon, very clearly. Another thing that stood out to me is how he expects people to treat others. He said James was short with people and cutting and vulgar. Mormons believe in treating others well. Vulgar is a big thing for Mormons. No swearing, no vulgarity. It's just not good. So when he said that it made my light go on that he might be active. Jef, on the other hand, was quite vulgar in something he said to Emily while they were in the library (which disappointed me in him).
Jef made it clear for the public that he'd go to the fantasy suite with Emily, but only to talk. I don't know what Brooks will do. But if he was active he really wouldn't want people to think something of him. It would bother him. He might just want to talk to her, get to know her better, just like Jef said he wanted to do, and make that clear to the public that that's why he was going. But maybe he's not active and some things would bother him, some things would not.
Maybe they'd go on weekend dates. Maybe he'd go and stay in a separate place and just see her during the day.
I don't know how active he is. He really hasn't shown himself one way or the other, except that he went out of his way to let the guys know he's Mormon. Either Michael didn't put in the qualifiers (Mormon but inactive) just to make his point more impactful, or maybe Brooks gave them no qualifiers. Part of how he looks doesn't seem very active Mormon. But he's never sworn. You haven't seen him outright drinking (I don't think), and if you did, maybe it wasn't alcohol. But pointing out vulgarity is a pretty Mormon thing to do and to be offended by. He might be just like Jef and picks and chooses what he'll embrace. He doesn't seem as rebellious as Jef, who seemed very rebellious. Active or not he's going to have a lot of Mormon ingrained in him. It is just part of who you are, how you act, how you see the world, and what you think is good and bad, if you're raised in it. You have to go to quite an extreme to ever get away from it completely, and I don't think people ever really do. They fight against the church, usually outright oppose it and try to make it look bad, and we all know that saying about "Methinks thou protesteth too loudly." You're trying to convince yourself as much as everybody else.

Coming out of lurkdom to say that I thought there was confirmation that Des and Brooks were staying together in Antigua after the show? Didn't the housekeeper clean their suite and run into him? I don't think you can take Michael's mention of Brooks's religious beliefs as the end-all, be-all...I'm a pretty non-practicing Jew, and I'd still tell someone that I'm Jewish. How that's interpreted is in the eye of the interpreter.
Also, I'm pretty sure that Brooks calls James a POS (not sure if I can swear on these boards, so using the acronym) next week. I suspect he's currently inactive...which is neither here nor there, but to the point of this discussion, means that he could certainly have overnight visits with Des. Honestly, I think it would be very hard to do this show if you extremely religious and adhered to those beliefs.
