I feel Ben thinks he is God's gift to women. Whether this is how he really is, or it is producer driven, I don't know, but his behavior does not bode well for him hanging around for the long term.

I'm way behind but agree with all the comments on Brooks and Des' date. I loved every second of it. Their level of comfort with each other blew me away.

They both make for great tv. So nice, genuine and each with an easy, low-key confidence and the most natural chemistry I've ever seen on this show (as someone mentioned earlier, even more than the start of JP and Ash which I never thought anyone would come close to again).

Agree the producers must have known they had a problem after that date but hopefully also realized it could be a good thing. I mentioned somewhere else that I hope their relationship will be so good as entertainment (both so expressive and emotional) that TPTB will have to show it and we'll actually get lots of real moments like last night. I honestly could have watched them the whole show last night.

I also really like the part where they are on the bridge looking out and she was standing in front of him and he wraps his arms around and kisses her on the top of her head. Now that really shows how comfortable they are together.

Watching that, I was also struck by how natural and easy that embrace was. I think that showed a trust, an intimacy that belies their having just met.

Little late to the discussion here, but, just my thoughts about last night.

Did every contestant this season have to have some traumatic event in their life to be cast?...so Des and they could compare sob stories? I sound like a cold hearted bitch (and I'm really not...well, maybe sometimes), but, this is just too much misery/deprivation/sadness/trauma. Apparently the producers goal this season is to have the audience drowning in tears.

While the date with Brooks seemed pretty natural and comfortable I am tired of the same old dates. Ashley and William did the wedding, not to mention her wedding photos with JP and several other guys. Ali and Frank went to the Hollywood sign for their first date and don't even get me started on how many closed roads/bridges/amusement parks/restaurants/venues we have had so we could have a private dinner and concert.

The rap video was so bad it was good....but, again recyling date ideas. Did not need to see Brandon in his skivies up close and personal with Des. I'm sure the group rose was a producers pick so that they would hate Ben more than they already do. (She really does not seem to be that into him and I actually thought she wanted to give the rose to shirtless Zack.) Someone earlier commented that it is unusual for the guys to get this worked up about someone this early so he really must be rubbing them the wrong way...and I bet the producers too...hence his smarmy edit.

I see the redemption of shirtless Zack occuring and CH commenting on it. I wonder if this is who they may be looking at for the next Bachelor? He is the right age, seems sincerely ready to settle down and seems to have the zany sense of humour combined with sincerity that Sean had....plus the abs.

Braydon's date was OK. Awkward at times when they actually had to talk...hence the "Kiss me". Don't see much mutual attraction there.

Next week looks to be drama filled. The girlfriend makes her confrontational appearance and it looks like Ben ticks of all the males enough that there is some kind of altercation. Same old, same old.

I don't know if I am burning out on this show, but, I just am not getting into this season. The only person I am remotely interested in finding out about is shirtless Zack...I can't believe I just wrote that! I like Des, but, she is not really drawing me in one way or the other. The guys are OK, but again, none are really doing it for me. I hope as they get down in numbers and we get to know them a little better, plus the travel starts, things may pick up for me. Thankfully BB and Amazing Race Canada start soon!!!

I didn't watch several seasons of the show, so maybe that's why I'm not burnt out like some!

I totally agree. Same old, same old. I have already lost interest.... and it is only the second episode!!

Certainly the men know that production has control over who talks to Des and when. Why get upset with Ben when they know damn well he was asked to interrupt? Or do they know? Is production that sneaky as to keep this agenda from them?

So to say this but

I am not surprised that the ratings are bad. I think many of us are just tired of the formula and haven't enjoyed some of the more recent seasons. But I've watched all but three seasons (took a break after PLo!) so it may just be running its course for me.

I will keep watching for two reasons: my DD likes to watch it with me so it's fun spending Monday nights with her, especially in the summertime and the second is that they do go to new European spots and I love to travel.

I hesitate to say this because I know it is an unpopular view/opinion. The show stunk last night. MOAA.


The show hit an all-time series low in viewers last night, 5.6 million viewers and 1.7 in the demo. That's down 2/10s of a point from the premier in the demos, which is the only number advertisers (and thus ABC) care about.

Just to reiterate something I posted a week ago for comparisons:

Des: Premier episode May 27, 2013 attracted just 5.8 million viewers and scored a 1.9 rating in the adults 18-49 demo.

The reason every guy has a sob story is in hopes to keep viewers. Next week someone will break a shoe lace during the RC and an ambulance will have to be called yet again---a series first with 2 traumatic injuries in one epi! A broken finger(geez at any pharmacy you can buy a freaking splint-- I would be embarrassed to cry over that and a broken shoe lace--now that is an issue).
Des maybe all these wonderful qualities, but she does not make interesting tv on a show that is on it's last leg.
