Episode 2 - 6/03 - Bachelorette 9 - Discussion - Spoilers

I only saw half the show (rest is recorded to watch today) but I was so very impressed by Brooks and Des on their first date. Like someone said elsewhere: "Stop the show; it's over." They make an extraordinary couple.

In all the seasons, imo, I think Des and Brooks' first date was one of the best first dates the show has had, very sweet and natural. Although I think you could tell he was a bit nervous discussing his parents, I am warming to him a bit more.

Ben is icky and too slick for his own good. Very cool to see a sweet side to Zak. His gift was very thoughtful and appropriate, imo.

Bryden could not look her in the eye. Maybe nerves were part of it, but I feel like when someone cannot look you in the eye, they are being shady and hiding something (his gf?!).

Brandon is gentle, but very intense. Obviously he wears his heart on his sleeve? His intensity may be too much for Des. But props to him for being able to wear the outfit, or lack of, in front of all those guys, too funny.

Too bad they didn't show more time with a couple of the other guys... Drew, Chris, Kasey.

I thought it was interesting that Des seemed to have asked (even though we didn't always see her questions) each guy about past relationships. Seems early in the game to do that but maybe she decided in advance that that was a way to get a glimpse into their values, heart, whatever.

I personally thought while watching last night that some of the guys dumped too much info on Des for early dates: Brandon and his family situation (she seemed to overwhelmed by that), Michael and his diabetes, etc.

And my teen DD and I thought there was probably a lot of producer-driven behavior including Ben interrupting Michael's time with Des. After her 1 on 1 with Brooks TPTB probably realized they had a problem on their hands (the girl had already decided her F1) and had to start stirring up a storyline to carry the season.

That was producer driven, they do it every season. Jeremy has talked about this, he was "the guy with the rose" who interrupted on DeAnna's season, because he was told to (and saying no isn't an option if you want more time with her -- producers threaten to take dates and alone time away, you'll go home because she won't get to know you, etc). Notice how the lead never says "Oh, can you please give us five minutes?" She knows the producers are in control of the flow of men and if they sent Ben in to interrupt there was a reason -- they want him to have an even bigger target on his back. Drama!

Liked the epsidoe last night. The Brooks date was well planned and they seemed comfortable. Though they were totally out of sync in dancing. He was trying to turn her in one direction and she kept going in another.

I just watched that date again and will be watching the episode again later. So fun!

Sure seems like this would be a good season to show the love story develop but we won't, of course. I have never seen this much chemistry on a first date.

If production would allow the lead more control in the cocktail party we would have a better show. Sign, not going to happen.

Certainly the men know that production has control over who talks to Des and when. Why get upset with Ben when they know damn well he was asked to interrupt? Or do they know? Is production that sneaky as to keep this agenda from them?

My thoughts on last night's episode have been posted on my blog. I really enjoyed what I saw of the show last night. Though I fell asleep with 30 minutes left of the show and need to rewatch it. :) I think it's because of the dates being reused and rehashed so nothing seems that exciting to watch anymore. :( Not the guys or Desiree's fault the show seems to be lacking something this season. sighs.

I think Ben is going to be this season's Tierra.. Do I think he's going to go looking for drama? no. I do think drama will come to him thou and he will be involved with most of it.

I loved Brooks and Desiree's date. It seemed like it flowed really easy. Neither nervous, both really interested in getting to know each other.

Unlike Desiree's date with Bryden. Bryden is sweet but boy that was an awkward date. :(

I was mesmerized by the first date with Brooks and Desiree. I've already watched it twice. Hot Hot Hot!!

I feel Ben thinks he is God's gift to women. Whether this is how he really is, or it is producer driven, I don't know, but his behavior does not bode well for him hanging around for the long term.
