Sorry, I'll leave now and go back to the place where I apparently worship at the altar of two saints. Although that's the furthest thing from what I'M doing.

Your post wasn't threatening. I just get frustrated when I'm outside the fan threads for SeanCat and I'm basically called crazed fan who worships at their altar. I don't take to kindly to that as I'm more of a person who posts info, pictures, videos, interviews I find online for others to view. Sorry, for my overreaction. That's what happens when we get a snowstorm in mid-April. :WAVEY:

Forget anything snarky. Those days are pretty much over for me here. :halo:

Personally, this couple is no different than the majority of couples born of this franchise. Time will tell.

I agree with this completely Kash. It is sad to feel so censored at a site that was originally developed to combat that very thing. I agree with you too IrishGal, (can't multi-quote) that it has been about a year since it became so difficult to have an oposing opinion and post freely about it. Emily's season pretty much did that in. I hope we can get back to where members feel comfortable posting knowing that even if most disagree with what the poster says, they won't be attacked. Where Kash's snark is once again posted for those of us who absolutely love it!

I agree with everything, especially the bolded. Not fun to post here anymore. Just one little thread to post our opinions and have good, intellectual conversations, peppered with a little snark. Once Des' season starts, and people get to know contestants, that too will turn into a fan forum. Most of the old posters from FORT don't post here anymore. Thanks Love and San for trying to create such a nice forum... but ever since Emily's season this site is slowly turning into a fan site.

Imo that has already started for one or two contestants.

If you have something to say, you should say it! It's pretty fan-ish over there but only because the show hasn't started and all of these contestants are given benefit of the doubt. I think I saw one of your posts and tried to remind people that they have their own reasons and opinions and we should be OK with it even if we don't agree or understand.

I happen to agree with ja1968. I have seen such glowing reports about people that haven't even been on the tv screen yet. When someone questions or suggests an opinion that doesn't agree, it brings all kinds of posts defending someone none of us know. ( I except those who truly are acquainted with the contestant) I would truly like to see some honest discourse about the contestants rather than wax poetically about the charms they surely must have. I read some really questionable things about one of the "favorites" in Des' upcoming season but wouldn't dare post it here. That shouldn't happen and in a true forum, it wouldn't. I hope we can get back to that in this "forum".

I haven't really seen too much honest discourse about the contestants, probably people are holding back, me included at times. I also realize there are quite a few friends and family of the contestants on the board and I personally don't wanna offend them too much and I don't want to waste energy if it gets out of hand. The contestants all seem great now until the show reveals their personality, but at least I've been pretty honest that I base all my favoritisms based solely on physical appearance and the very little bio we have of them. It comes off very fan-ish, but if no one is gonna say much else, I don't know what else to say. Idk, I'm curious what you guys have to think and say though!

I just want to add: The show does not generally portray true personalities. The show generally portrays the personalities they want us to associate with certain cast members due to various machinations.
I use the term "generally" because there are times that a cast member quacks and it, indeed, is a duck.
The issue of cast' family/friends who are members have been dealt with on other forums where posters do not have to post unicorn and rainbow comments in order to placate those members. Generally, they are told to avoid those posts or duck and cover.

Oh boy, if we have to zip our lips in order to not offend a relative /friend of a contestant, what is the point of being here at all? The "forum" is supposed to be here for us, not the well-being of the contestants and their retinues.

Sorry, should have quoted the post above Kasha's. Entirely agree with Kasha's perspective, if not all her opinions.

I don't think we have to zip our lips. I just personally don't feel super comfortable, but that is personal choice, if that makes sense!

And I agree with Kasha, they are going to portray each person the way they want to like they always have. And I don't disagree with you either. Like I said, I personally would feel a bit uncomfortable so I don't (and really at the moment, I really don't have anything super pressing to bring up anyways). Of course if anyone else doesn't, go ahead and say what you want. :)

I just wanted to make that clear that what I've been saying has been a personal opinion, not like rules or anything. If anything, trying to encourage more "forum-like" posts for those who want to share their opinions that go against the grain. I don't know how else to help the situation but if it makes anyone feel any better that I'm encouraging it?

Post by northernviewer Fri Apr 19, 2013 9:58 pm

Happy to see that many still want this site to be a forum and not a fan site

It's not that I don't want fans to feel welcome here either, that's not the case... cuz that's part and parcel of watching the show. Some seasons you'll like a lead and their F1, some seasons you won't. Some seasons you might hate the lead, but like a few contestants - it's just the way it is. I don't mind the gushing that goes with it... but for those that aren't feeling it.... don't take it personal if they poke fun or snark on one of your favorites. I've been on both sides of that fence. I've dished out the snark... and I've defended a contestant or lead that was snarked on. I just think that if you want to be part of a public forum... you have to ignore what you don't like... it's just as simple as that. Defend away, or state your opinion as to why you don't agree..... nothing wrong with that... just don't chastise a poster for having a differing opinion.

This is one amazing site, run by 2 great ladies, and I want to see it continue to be what it was at it's inception and not become a fansite, as that' will signal it's demise :Frown:

In the fan thread, one fan was describing one blogger as a "piece of shit". So much for expressing anything in a respectful manner.

This is basically the difference

Fansite = "I can attack you or whomever just do not say anything offensive to my tv idols"

Forum = "We can make fun and talk about these tv people, in whatever fashion we want as long as we are civil and respectful toward one another"

The truth of the matter is in a fansite everybody is a 'piece of shit' compared to say St. Sean and St. Catherine. It is very disturbing to rever people like they are gods and blasphemy is a capital offense.

(yes I will shut up about it. Happy Springtime to you all. I love Spring so much!)

Not to defend the poster calling the blogger that, but what's the difference between that and all the names that RS gets called here? Is it because he wasn't been nice to them? Is it because he is more all-known? While I would never call any blogger any name even if I've had a bad experience with them, I can understand people voicing their frustrations.

And on a happier note, I'm glad you are enjoying Spring. We just got another 7 inches of snow so I'm still waiting for Spring to show up.

The big, huge difference between any blogger and RS is that RS has insulted, name-called, and then stooped to steal scoop from people on this site. This dates back to the days before this forum was established. He has made it personal and that's why people dislike him so much.

It's kind of depressing that we're at that point in the season where we've got to have the discussion again about the forum and posters and freedom to post what we will.

I actually really like Sean and Catherine but you won't find me on any soapbox to tell my fellow posters they can't post their dislike or criticisms of the couple. Why shut down the ability for discourse? Lord knows, after all these seasons, there are some who see 'it' between the couple and others who don't and chances are the following season we could be agreeing with those same posters we once disagreed with. It's in that spirit, the spirit of we're all here to post about a silly show that doesn't affect our lives, that forums like this have always been set up. Initially, we got to sleuth and piece it all together. Now we have the spoilers but still post for the same reasons - for fun. And for those whose lives are affected by the couples, well, hmm, maybe they need to buy a puppy? :Bendog giggling

I'll just say I've been personally insulted by some of these bloggers so if someone wants to call them a "piece of shit" for me, I don't have a problem with it. So yes, they have personally attacked some and I've not done anything about it or even say anything til now. RS isn't the only one who can insult. In fact, these bloggers have treated me 1000x times worse than the RS has in the numerous times I've contacted him.
