I think Catherine being asian and being the chosen one of Sean, gave this fandom a different level of intensity and interest. Asian females who are attracted to men like Sean identifies with her. And its also different kind of
pressure being a sort of 'role model' for them. My family is Peruvian/Italian and if there will be a Peruvian bachelorette I sure as hell will jump on the bandwagon.
It's a pressure too to make it work, that the asian/filipino F1 made it work.
For Sean being christian and sort of a spoke person for them (I am Catholic but apparently for the 'christians' I dont deserve to be called a christian teehehe) its a pressure too to be true to his word that they will marry. These reasons are reason enough to get married, love and being ready can be secondary. But my point is the pressure is too much for them to get married and they will lose everything if they wont.
I see what you're saying. I'm Filipino myself, and was married to a Caucasian for several years. While we did not meet on a reality show, like Catherine, I had a quick whirlwind romance and got married. I then moved far from my family to join my husband. I had to make new friends, get used to a new environment, new job, etc. Difference is, I got married and our commitment was in place before leaving my old home and life behind and joined my now-ex.
Cat and Sean are not yet married, and Sean is holding all the reins to their relationship. With their wedding plans on hold and doing DWTS right after The Bachelor, it's all about Sean's show & Cat is just supporting cast member for now. Peta even has higher billing than her because of DWTS.

Agree... even with SeanCat time with their family at the after party Peta shows up..... :pullouthair:
This is my go to thread when I occasionally take off my rose colored glasses. Just don't want to be blindsided in case it does not work. As it goes, I do invest too much time checking this forum for news about them . I really enjoy reading differing opinions without feeling restricted because I chose to be slightly skeptical.

Yay! Minorities in the house! I am mexipino, Mexican Filipino myself. Can relate with the post upthread. Its very rare that this show features a minority and when they do, ths is what happens... the minorities come out from the woodwork.
Why is it that there are no asian males or even half asian males in any of the Bachelorette? Really really curious about this. Have a I seen a black man on Bachelorette? I guess not. Hmmm?
Back to the topic. I think Catherine is not someone that I will feel sorry for. She said she was 'expired' in Seattle anyway. Lucas is right, She has barely anything that she lost aside from a job and a part time gig on a magazine. What she has now is a dream/ fantasy compared to what she had.
However right now it was set up to be Bachelor Sean's journey and Catherine just tagging along for the ride. The paparazzi sometimes do not even address her by name, its Sean and his lady. There is a Murgalo and everybody knows it, and they are the power couple supposed to be not SeanCat. It's kind of awkward too cause I really like Peta and Sean, they look good together honestly.
It's one of the sacrifices I think of being the final woman chosen by the Bachelor. Your identity is 'that woman chosen by the bachelor', always in his shadows until probably many years after when you have kids and you have things that you do to establish your own identity. Its like First Lady to President, Princess to the Prince, you have that identity because you were chosen by the 'man'. Other than that I guess, Catherine loves every minute of it. I honestly think she loves the limelight even more than he does. Its the money and opportunities for him, the limelight for her so its like perfect match.

IMHO Catherine could view this differently. She had a part time job as a food blogger for an on-line newspaper and had her job at Amazon for less than a year, when she left it. And had a dream of finding "great love". So far I'd guess she believes she found that great love.
It doesn't matter that Cat just had a part time job as a food blogger and had only been at Amazon for less than a year. The point is that she gave up everything for Sean... to follow Sean. Is Sean really putting the relationship first, or his own goals and Cat's along for the ride? It was important to Ashley that JP not just want her to fit into his life, but that he be willing to bend a little and build a life together taking into account her goals and dreams.

I'm glad you are posting your opinion here without feeling restricted. A discussion should be muti-faceted and not one sided. :campfire: It's okay to be skeptical...many people are!

In Shay's blog (insert beating the deadhorse icon hehe) she said she loves her some Peta. She adores Peta. I love Peta too.
It's just so easy to take Catherine for granted I guess (from the family pov) because she 'won' Sean's heart in a reality show. Not someone their son actively courted. The more conservative the family, the concept of a woman winning an engagement with your son/brother/etc (and won by the skin of her teeth) probably does not ranked there with things of really high value to them. I don't know how to word this sorry. But you guys can get my drift.

Please rewatch the interview portion of Sean's DWTS performance from Monday- the whole premise of the dance was to honor Catherine who has "put her life on hold for me to be able to do this". Sean absolutely knows she has done that and honors her for it.

The guy is a politician. He is hitting two birds in one stone. Three birds actually.
Getting voted for one more week.
Getting ooohs and aaaahhs and tap on the back from SeanCat fans saying he is the perfect gentleman and Catherine is lucky!
That 'honoring' CAtherine was a big distraction from his dance that totally tanked.
At least Andy Dick has rhythm and was totally on point in his solo. Didn't miss a beat and honored his daughter.
Honoring someone is like a prayer, you dont show and shout it in public. You show it through your actions, in the moments where just you and her are there.
For someone like Sean the real test is, is he going to do the same without the cameras, even without the reward of fans fawning over him for being the 'perfect gentleman' and fiance.
What is important to him is his image. Of being seen as the perfect guy. But his actions completely betray what his words always declare. This has been his MO in the Bachelorette, in the Bachelor and after all these shows.

Do you guys ever wonder if Sean chose Desiree or Ashlee, would he even dare think of DWTS?
I'm sure Emily will never even hear it. That woman knows she should come first (that's what I like about her).
I could never see her, seating in the sidelines cheering for whomover.
Would Brad even think of rubbing legs with Peta, if he was still with Emily?
Sean really lucked out with Catherine really. Very few women would want
to be outshone by someone like Peta or anyone.

I don't look at it as Catherine being outshone by Peta- I think Catherine is VERY confident in who SHE is and is confident in who SEAN is- that he loves her absolutely- and no one else. Is Sean lucky? Absolutely. But those are the qualities that were so attractive to him- so at this point, I don't think he's surprised by his luck.

Pretty much sums up why despite the fact that I like SeanCat my skepticism always kicks in.

Still want them to work out  I want to be wrong and believe in him. I wish I saw him when he was a contestant on the Bachelor though.
