I cannont claim to know anything (with certainty) about Sean, Catherine, their families, nor the current state of their relationship. This one thing I know, if Sean is really who I have identified a kindred spirit with, he will not be getting unequally yoked to any woman. In plain english, until Catherine becomes born-again (accepts Jesus as her personal Lord and Saviour), Sean will not marry her. I am not saying they will not get married ( No one knows tomorrow), I am stating what I know Sean knows needs to happen first, whether we hear of it or not is immaterial. This is a no-brainer.
By your logic, Sean should not have asked Catherine to marry him in the first place. He should have picked Lindsay or the other women during The Bachelor who were already believers. Becoming "born again" is a personal choice, it's not a process one goes through so they can marry a practicing Christian.
I think the issue for some of us who were Sean fans during and after Emily's season is that we watched many videos of him on Christian programming and at church events where he was very clear about faith and religion and what traits and beliefs he was looking for in a wife in that regard as well as the importance of it in his life. So yes, it is surprising to see him pick someone not exactly on the same page after so much talk about it.
Personally, I agree with you and see religious beliefs as individual but that is not what he was saying before nor how he represented himself. So, I do see why some posters see a disconnect or change of heart or something that is surprising after last summer.
Becca, I am with you on this. What has bothered me the most about Sean is the appearance that he is doing a lot of backpedaling now that his season of the Bachelor is over. I, for one, was someone who took him at his word when he said that he had no interest in chasing anymore fame and that he just wanted to go back to his life in Dallas and live a normal life. I do realize that Sean's life will probably never return to the "normal" life he had before doing two reality - now three - shows, but I actually believed him when he said all that stuff prior to doing the Bachelor.
And since religion and speaking out about it is such a hot topic nowadays, it APPEARS that Sean is now mostly taking the stand of not wanting to step on anyones toes when it comes to expressing his beliefs. I think that this is one of the pitfalls for doing reality television, and it does make me wonder just what Sean is thinking right now. I did not expect to see him take the route that he has chosen.
So, I am confused. Sean is now saying that he would be open to other opportunities that might come his way. And he is now indicating that moving back to Dallas might not be in his plans anymore. So, does that means California is going to be his new "normal"?

In other threads there have recently been discussions of what Catherine has done for Sean to be with him and a concern that this may be too much of a one-way street as it doesn't seem so apparent to posters what he has done for her.
However this apparent change in Sean's position and his willingness to accept Catherine's spirituality even though it may be different than his own was a conscious decision Sean had to make if he was going to pick Catherine in the first place and the possibility that this is something Sean did for love of Catherine is as plausible as any other reason for his change.

Sorry, Sophie, I don't remember where I read this, but maybe someone else can bring forward where Sean has recently indicated that he is open to possibly relocating to some place away from Dallas, TX. I do remember that it was in one of his interviews that he did after the AFTR. Sean basically indicated that he is leaving the door open on this issue, whereas he was pretty adamant before.

I couldn't find an actual interview but here's an article that talks about it:

This is the only explanation that makes sense to me. I do believe that Cat was on the chopping board a few times because she was not perfect in paper like how Sean envisioned his wife to be. But his love was too overwhelming he could not do it. And it took Cat their last date to tell him she love him when the others were let go if he did not hear those words. God definitely throw him a curveball. He said so himself.
And what is more interesting to me, he did not have to propose. He could have picked her and see were it goes. And yet he did it opposing his mother by doing so.

I'm less sure that Catherine was ever on a chopping block; that was a phrase used by Chris Harrison to support a TV show around the time of the HTD. It was used to create drama that would not appear to resolve until the final episode which is exactly what was planned and why he said it. I don't ever remember Sean saying that, and the only time that Catherine ever alluded to it was when she tweeted a picture of getting her hair trimmed and followed the tweet with the hashtag #choppingblock. I think that's as close as she ever came to a chopping block.
Catherine perhaps did not fit what was likely Sean's initial list of what he thought he was looking for but then again his list was pretty wide open. The core pieces of his list though were things that Catherine did meet - one reason why she didn't get a 1-1 date until very late in the season is that Sean had little doubts about her - the ones he dated most were the ones he had the most questions about.
And what is more interesting to me, he did not have to propose. He could have picked her and see were it goes. And yet he did it opposing his mother by doing so.
I don't think that's the first time he's done that; Sean may be more of a "black sheep" or independent thinker than we give him credit for and the two most telling statements to his mother were that he was only asking for her support (not her advice or opinion) and that she should not worry because he was going to do what was right for him. Regardless of how the show played the ending out, his mind was made up before the MTP date. The one in his family that really got that was Jay and you can see that by the words he chose when he talked to Catherine.

This is actually what made it real for me. How many of us throw our very strict criteria of what an ideal man for us should look us when we find ourselves falling in love with that person? I think he really fell for Catherine at that time but the lure of hollywood is just too much to resist. I still believe that in order for a Bachelor/ette couple to succeed they have to stay away from hollywood as far as they can. Sean clearly believes that he can have his cake and eat it too.
If he is really really serious about finding a person who shares his faith, he should've not done the Bachelor, the Bachelor would have not made it strictly Christian dating just to cater to his faith. If he is really not into fame, he should've not done the Bachelor too.
Talk is cheap and like what this very smart poster said jlccaz "Watch the feet" which is a clever way of saying action speaks louder than words. Sean's feet right now is planted on LA soil for DWTS, it is probably a preparation for his life with Catherine, building a nest egg and be a good provider. But do not buy into his line, always watch the feet.
* Im a new member and love reading the Emily Jef archives. That phrase 'Watch the Feet' jumped on me and I thought it is very wise. Wherever you are jlccaz, thank you for that.

I think there is more going on with religious preparation for Cat then we know. I do not believe for 1 second that he will compromise on this issue.
Also, I believe she was on the chopping block over it, but like Gingsterose said, the fact that he picked her in spite of this difference is quite telling on his feelings for her.
As far as DWTS, it may be a better transition for them than going back to Dallas right now. It gives them a little time in a fun atmosphere in neutral territory. He'll eventually get back to Dallas. I thought it was interesting that the wedding has been pushed by to the fall or winter or maybe I was just assuming it would be this summer. I think they need some time, so I was glad to hear it wasn't this summer.

I think it was the network - not the couple - that pushed it back. As I recall Ashley and JP were talking about a late Summer early Fall wedding date and the network pushed it back to December - causing a lot of fans to wonder what was wrong between them that it got pushed back.

Did he say this in this morning's interview (which I didn't hear- sorry)? You never know for sure when you're working with the network. But also some of the couples have learned that if you give too exact a window (with anyone) then everyone wonders what went wrong if you miss a time or a day. So if they put it out that it might be winter, then if it's sooner, everyone is happy, but if it doesn't end up being until winter, everyone's okay because their expectations have been managed.
