This would make sense since the Philippines (Isn't that where her mother is from) were once a colony of Spain and as a result a large population is Christian and most of those Christians are Roman Catholic.

But Catholics normally have a cross with Jesus still on it. They emphasize the crucifixion ... this cross on the wall was empty which is more mainstream christian emphasizing the empty cross (the resurrection). So am thinking they are aligned in the same christian way. JMO

It's amazing reading other folks posts - SushiFan: wonderful sense of humor; Avoice: never even thought about with or with Jesus on the cross. If they had an over and under on Sean and Catherine in Las Vegas you all should set the odds for them.

That's my observation, too! I became a born-again christian after college. I grew up and studied in an all girls catholic school in the philippines. (Kindergarten til hghschool). I was looking for statues or figurines that are the common fixtures in Filipino homes here in the philippines. Unless I didn't see it... *shrugs*

But Catholic individuals are just as likely to prefer a plain cross for decorative reasons as anyone else. You don't have to think about the symbolism all the time; I certainly don't. It is a very individual thing, in my experience.

sushifan wrote:My first post of the season.

On Sean: he seems a sincere guy, surprisingly natural and funny in the few unscripted moments we are allowed to see (on the bed with Tierra in Canada, out takes with Lindsay) and otherwise wooden in his "produced" segments. (They need to give him a few new stock phrases!) I also believe Sean is looking to spend his life with a woman, which makes for more believable TV - and distinguishes him from at least two previous Bachelors. But I digress...

Religion: it obviously plays a big role in this season. Sean doesn't need a lot of time to make a decision - he needs to feel God's leading. So if God knocks on his head in Thailand and says, "Hey, Sean, put down the 100% egg whites and go propose to Catherine!" Sean is going to listen to that message. To date (i.e. on show time), Sean looks like a man who has not yet heard God's leading. That's because Mike Fleiss is waiting until the ninth hour to pipe Morgan Freeman's voice into his shower, telling him to pick the only remaining contestant with a vocal register that doesn't resemble a dog whistle. Again, I digress...

On Des: I disbelieve anyone who says he made his F1 decision last night. No man, but especially not Sean, is going to make a proposal decision without having (1) off-camera time to talk about important topics not suitable for public consumption; and (2) time with his family. Period. She's a lovely girl and her brother should lay off the 'roids. I wish her well.

On Catherine: I see why he picks her - he acts demonstrably different with her than the others - but the producers amply showed the obstacles this couple will face in the real world. Will they be the yin to each other's yang, or will the differences be too much? My religious, meat-eating Republican brother, for what it's worth, married a vegetarian Democrat with a nose stud. They're very happy. And she now loves steak :) But she never had to alter her career dreams, or her voting preferences, or her city of residence. They had enough in common to make the differences between them feel like the spice that keeps life exciting. I'm not betting on a SeanCat wedding, but who knows? Morgan Freeman could convince me to do almost anything.

One last note: my non-spoiled hubby had the correct F2 from Montana on - he said there was a huge dip in chemistry between them and the next two (which he also nailed, though in reverse order). Right now he has Lindsay as F1, but said if not, she's his pick for Bachette. I'm so proud.

Love the little bits of light snark in this post :)

Still have to watch the episode but one thing I'm noticing: at least we don't have fans overly committing to any couple, because there just isn't enough there for anyone to do so. Refreshing: our thinking may actually be reflecting the process, which is about meeting someone more than building a relationship.

Definitely is casting doubts on if the couple can make it, but I'll always have hope. It is just more fun to have hope :)

Folks seem hung on Catherine's sisters saying her dream has always been to move to New York. She works in advertising so that's a big market as is Chicago and L.A. But Dallas is a top 10 market too and maybe living in NYC was Catherine's dream in college or in high school and they are thinking it still is her dream.

I love my two sisters dearly and are very close to both of them. However I also find that they sometimes see me in a time warp or say I want something based on a brief comment that I may have made but have long forgotten. My sister likes to call me by a very unflattering nickname that SHE gave me at 12 years old. Some thirty years later she will still bring up the nickname and insist that everyone called me it but NOBODY but her did.

Based on press release for next week's episode, Sean grills Catherine on her sisters' comments and she does her best to tell her side of story. Will be interesting to hear ...

Now I am hoping that the letter is indeed from her and/or from her sisters giving Sean their blessing ...

Wow - haven't seen that press release yet. Sean is certainly looking at all the attributes and seriously looking for the best one for him. After all this work and his commitment to being engaged only one time I sure hope it works out for him. P.S. To me he looked nicer in the Leather Jacket than with his shirt off. Not sure if that makes sense to some of you! :cutesmile!:
