I don't think the prank played a role. Sean pranked Emily last year and he even said he likes joking around. Maybe their relationship just lost steam. I still can't see how Ashlee makes it to top three and Des leaves before her.

Lindsay's edit has been unusual but par for the course for this season. For whatever reason, they've opted not to show many of her more serious moments that Sean's mentioned in the media.

You also have the statements from Sarah, Sean and many other of her fellow cast mates who were there and say that she is sweet, positive, and adorable. Lori posted last week about how Sean's feelings for her were very real and his decision at the end wasn't easy either. Who knows what will ever make it's way to the TV screen by season's end though.

I remember there was a media source posting here for a while during filming that believed that AshLee was the frontrunner around the fantasy date time but I am wondering now if that's because she was the perfect on paper option much like Sean was for Emily.

Point of interest for others: in most seasons, the villain stays in the picture til either 1. the epi just before HTDs after which the love story takes off 2. Epi 5/6 if a real connection occurs between a lead and another contestant (they start to let that relationship emerge slowly from the shadows.)

When the villain is the F1, please refer to Jake and Ben's seasons!

Lindsay seems sweet and likeable. The reason I don't like her is that she doesn't seem very smart. She's had so many "dumb blonde" lines this season, and I just hate when girls like that get the guy. Especially when there are women around like Lesley and Des.

I can see his attraction with Catharine, and can totally buy into him choosing her in the end. About the only thing that hold any interest for me for the rest of the season is why did he lose interest in Desiree? IMO she's got a lot more going for her than Ashlee and Lindsey, and acts like a normal, well adjusted woman - whereas Ashlee is super emotional and needy and I've already said what I think about Lindsey.

I think that Dez is the one who lost that loving feeling for Sean. Once he got wind of it in Montana, coupled with his growing connection with Cat, I think he also started to pull back.

Note that in Montana, Dez no sooner sat down with Sean at the after party when they were interrupted by AshLee. During her second 1:1, Dez tells him that she wants to spend more time with him. Sean during their conversation tucks her hair behind her ear (we groom love interests). She then gets the 3:1 date with the two other girls who have equally strong if not stronger connections. She's already told Daniela that she knows how it feels to observe him with others, so, in my mind, that group date only escalates insecurity. Then on the HTD we have the prank. Where in there does it seem like the show is trying hard to get Sean and Dez to work out???

If Dez shares that she's feeling unsure about her feelings, and if the producers are watching Sean with Cat but know she's neck-and-neck with Dez for Sean's affections, and if Fleiss at all saw any potential for her being his lead, then the show makes it just a little harder for them to spend time together; makes Sean a little confused; then tests them with a prank.

The prank isn't on the level of Sean's. It's a direct "threat" to Sean's relationship with Dez: the "ex" wants her back. In the moment, Sean, if he's not privy beforehand, has to be thinking in the rush of thoughts, "What do we have?" I think that it was encouraged to force Sean to decide, just like Shay helps him again.

Dez was probably out of the running for F1 back in LA when she started questioning her own feelings.

Sean said, before he started the Bachelor, that his wife will have no doubts about him... So if Dez has doubts, that will be a sign for him to move on.

Sorry, but anyone who has no doubts after only about 20 hours alone together is a very poor candidate for a spouse. I'd think if the lead was serious he'd want his choice to have the normal doubts that any emotionally healthy person would have.

When I read Des poems, back when her blog was still up, I got the impression that they were written by someone hurting and scarred. The poems were written over two years ago, so I thought perhaps that was her emotional state at that time, because the happy person I saw in the first two episodes appeared to be in a good place. From listening to her later converstaions and observing her behaviour, the same impression I had of her, from the poems, came back to me. I know that I may be wrong, as I'm not an expert at reading people, but I think Des hides a lot behind that happy smile and I think this is what Sean discerned and led to him dropping her.

And it could be very possible--Des was not so into Yawn--and thus the departure at F4 from the HTD.
What we see is deliberate in the edit.
What we don't see--can sometimes save the main's ego.
