It does seem very odd. It is not obvious to me, however, that Sean is not into her when I see how he looks at her in all of the screencaps we have thus far. And it seems clear to me that Catherine is really into him from the get go by how she has her eyes fixed on him and by her facial expressions.

I'm right there with you Irish. Sean's a nice guy, but I can readily see him being "influenced" into proposing even if he wasnt 100% feeling it. I think that's the whole reason they cast him to begin with. He just seems malleable.

Just got spoiled after watching 1st episode so not familiar with how or why Sean picks Catherine. I'm gathering she get's a late date, much like Jef did............. I'm already starting to see the writing on the wall

This "bending the rules" schtick is just that. (oops, best add IMO!!)
Yes, there is a bit of flexibility--but the flexibility is on the Machine's terms. Anything the main is asking for is a basic pittance.
This show is choreographed. I wouldn't be surprised if they start spontaneously singing and dancing in future seasons to take off on the new musical phenoms!
Yawn gave out the roses ahead of time to spare him the deer in the headlights trauma he himself hit on earlier in the episode with the upcoming RC. It's a lot easier to ask someone 1:1 than get up there and ask 20 women, remembering names in a grueling 4 hour ceremony.
Lindsey was given her dress--it was not her idea. Producer ploy. Think modeling clay.
It is probably not an option for Yawn not to choose a F1. I think there is enough "down" time during group dates that if the main wants to get to know someone better off camera he could. But--
Dates take all day (generally) to tape, so why spend a 1:1 with someone you kind of like when you could spend it with one you really like?? Sounds like torture to me, maybe for the sake of filming it would happen once, but certainly not multiple times IF you really had the hots for that one person.
Please let's not forget editing. So much of what we see and hear is what we are being asked to, and not what is reality. This goes for the interviews for media, too--they are coached what to say and not say. Yes, personalities can show through, but the bottom line is the machine, not the puppet.

I also pretty much agree with you on this IrishGal. It is odd. But Sean could have been thinking that he and Jef got their first 1-1 dates in epi. 5 so it would be no big deal for Catherine to not get hers until around the same time and in the meantime he could have made sure he spent a good deal of time with her during the group dates. I believe it was said she was on one every week until her date.

I don't care who ends up F1 - if they didn't get a 1/1 up til the 5th episode..... bottom line.... the lead wasn't all that into them in the first few weeks... period.

It's entirely possible Sean wasn't into Catherine quite as much as some others in the early episodes, same could probably be said for Lindsay. However, that doesn't mean they weren't building a connection or that their relationship didn't build more than all the others by the end. Stranger things have happened.I just don't think it's fair to basically say she was a default. Just my $0.02.

to be honest i want to like Sean so much but i feel he is just a "male" Emily. He says the right things in his blog and interviews. He makes some comments about the women the way Emily was on twitter during her season to ask how everyone was liking the show when she told Kalon to get out. he basically echoes the sentiment of twitter-verse. The only difference I hope for is that he did not propose on the show if he was not that into anyone.

Unless I am missing something, it appears to me that in St. Croix (Episode 7) there were still six women remaining: AshLee, Lesley, Lindsay, Tierra, Desiree, and Catherine. We know Tierra had a 1-1; if there was a 3-1 group date, it seems to me that there are still two 1-1 dates up for grabs. It's suspected that Lesley got one - I would not think Desiree got another one since she already had two. It seems more likely that AshLee would get another one since her first one was so early but who knows.

I'm keeping an open mind although do wonder why such a late date. If he was thinking she was the one early on he'd have had a 1 on 1 date so it must have come to him later. Episode 6 seems so late to really fall in love however I'm thinking Sean wouldn't propose if she wasn't feeling sure. This is one time that the relationship really starts after the show ends.

There are screencaps proving that AshLee had a one on one with Sean on St. Croix. Still nothing confirmed about the group date or the third one on one.
