Has anyone on this thread discussed possible filming and editing techniques that are kept secret from us? Just wondering if there are a few cameramen/women shooting film, in a scene, at the same time? One camera fixed on Sean, one camera fixed on a fav and one camera on the both of them. Seems that would produce a lot of film for editing purposes. Seems that the film could be cut and pasted so that we are not seeing things as they occurred. I wonder if a person is posed, filmed and edited to look like he/she was in that scene. For example, the editing might make it look like Sean was talking to another fav. Cheesy thought, I know. But, if the editing produced the effects that the producers wanted.....

Per the first bolded: Yes, to death every season. There have been blogs from past contestants past seasons that also talk about this. There are members from this forum (myself being one) who have first hand knowledge of editing, splicing/dicing and frankenbyting from people in production.
My daughter's significant is an editor(audio/video) in tv. Depending on the reality show there is variation but they pretty much all have some scripting and storyboarding. Reality tv is anything, but reality tv.
Here are some actual photos taken from the London Eye during Matt Grant's season showing how many crew were involved with the Matt and Chelsea's LCD date, just to give you an idea.

Dates take hours and hours to tape even though we see 15 minutes of them. For instance--RC's have been known to take 4-5 hours. HTD tapings take all day. We see a fraction of what is taped.
Many re-takes are taken. Sometimes a question will be asked by a producer and the answer to the question asked will be placed in during an ITM(in the moment) later at another time, making it look like the cast person is saying something, but in reality it could be a response to something totally different at another day/time. When someone is rejected and sent home, it has been told that they will be driven around for hours wearing the cast person down and provoked until they get the person angry and/or tearful.
Lots and lots of stunts are pulled.

My understanding is the only things we can really depend on is what one is saying "to the face" of another and watching the actual lips move. Even that is edited. One of the most edited ever conversations was Roberto and Ali's dinner on the FD in Tahiti- it was almost laughable how cut up it was- and you can almost track which part happen when by seeing how much wine was in the glasses and how much dessert was on the plates.

If you haven't listened to Sean's interview with Kidd Kraddick, you might like to. He talks about calling Emily's name, the run through Prague, etc.- he has a good attitude about it...."They have a TV show to produce". He gets that, so he won't fight it, but hopefully he can figure out a way to be true to himself.

Thanks so much for sharing, Kashathediva and jcrbil . I think I am liking this forum more and more. I guess I was wondering today, with all the great sleuthing on this forum, with all the intelligent minds at work on this forum, why there was no input by film experts or film students, in order to reveal the "secrets" of reality TV. You guys and ladies rock! Keep it real!!!!

Something to keep in mind when trying to determine who the F1 will be this season is the F1 always has their private 1-on-1 conversation with the lead shown during episode 1.

In most cases the F2 might also have their private conversations with the lead shown during the first episode.

The F3 & F4 might not have their first private conversation shown during the first episode.

During Emily's season we saw her talk to Chris (F4), Arie (F2), and Jef (F1). We did not see her first private conversation with Sean.

Then during Ben's season I believe we saw him have private conversations with Nicki (F3), Lindzi (F2), and Courtney (F1). We were never shown him talking to Kacie alone.

Actually, we did see a brief moment of her talk with Sean.... when he bumped Kalon out of the way. Though you're right in that we saw nothing of substance.

Have there be any spottings of any of the F4 back home? Surprised we haven't heard or seen of any of them being back, at least the contestant who was cut at F4RC. For some reason, I am thinking it was Desiree cut then, which would mean: Lindsay, Catherine, and Ashlee(which we already know, thanks to the awesome peeps on here) made it to Thailand. We really haven't heard anything public about Desiree or have seen any posts on facebook by her friends/family, it would be easiest for her to go undercover, rather than the other 3, IMO. I could be off, just thinking. What do ya'll think?

That is exactly what I meant. When they actually sat down to talk alone we weren't privy to that conversation. Just like we saw Kacie and Ben talk during the M & G, but Jenna was there.

I agree with you completely. I think Catherine and Lindsay would have been spotted by now if they were home since their friends have been vocal about their support of them. There was a twitter posting yesterday that made some think Lindsay made F2 as her Mom's friend sent Reality Steve a message about knowing who was in the final and may know who won. However, by final did she mean F3 or F2? I think it means Lindsay made it to Thailand but that is it. If Lindsay was cut at F3, she would not be allowed to call her Mom.

Anyway, I have a question. We've seen the editing room, and know that Episode One is or has been edited already- before F1 was finally determined. Though it is possible, of course, that the lead pretty much knows who it will be and has shared that with the producers. Certainly, Ali knew (they say as soon as Roberto stepped out of the limo): Brad knew early- his behavior towards Emily was pretty much obvious to all the other girls; Ashley knew for sure about mid-journey- as soon as the specter of Bentley was gone; As soon as Ben skinny-dipped with Courtney he was seduced; Emily was a little more coy- actually, Jef was more coy and made Emily work for it, but I suppose she knew at least by home-towns when Jef declared himself. So I suppose they would have known about Sean by the time they actually edited Ep. 1. Sorry, y'all - just sort of thinking "out loud".

MF tweeted this on Oct. 30 which was in the middle of the filming of the HTDs per our filming schedule. Ashlee's and possibly Catherine's (?) HTDs would have been filmed.
