I think it's weird to not show their first private convo and start building the relationship for viewers. Especially because RS also says that Catherine gets one of the early roses, so she obviously made an impression on him.

It is weird that they do not show how/when/why she gets the rose. It cant just be random...

I think it won't really matter that we don't see Catherine early. I think a lot of this season is going to be that it doesn't matter how you start, it matters how you finish. Sean even said in his presser that he hopes his F1 sees that (though it may be hard to watch) he had to sort out a number of relationships to get to HER. I think Sean saw potential with a lot of girls, but I'm thinking he held back until he was sure which girl he fell in love with. (Pretty clear some of the girls weren't holding back, though).

^ I agree. If Sean was looking for love, he was going to have to put himself out there and date them all to see which one he had a connection with.

Is it just me and my quirky eyes or is every first solo date shown in episode #2 always “representing” the end-goal of our lead?

Jason “slow dancing” with otherwise frisky Jillian… then, for his second 1 on 1, blimp-kissing fast and furious with Melissa. (Guess he temporarily went for the quickie in the end, then restarted with a slower romance later.)

Jillian dressing and undressing Jake and trying to get him sloshed to country music. Oh golly gee.

Jake fiddles with his airplane controls as Ali sits in her frightened yellow.

Ali’s car breaking down in front of the Hollywood sign so she and Frankie can talk shared “dreams”.

Brad takes Ashley to an amusement park to undergo “Daddy therapy”

Ashley had a shot-gun marriage in Las Vegas with Willie. In fact, she’s the only one with weddings on the brain, later posing in Taiwan with JP in tux.

Ben, seeking “post-Daddy therapy”, watches home movies in Sonoma of Daddy… and Kacie’s Daddy. Benny Boy was just soooo eager to meet her Daddy later on her wine-free hometown.

Emily dresses football jock Ryan in a flowery apron and forces him to bake cookies for Ricki.

Did I get any of these wrong? Correct me.

I still think we have to see him give her the rose, so I think we may see them interact if only for a minute at least.

Well, Sean's doesn't look like repelling down the building, looks more like a free fall in harness (and then he does a whole lot of mountain/rock climbing thereafter). So i guess he's looking to fall (in love?)? All the active/outdoor dates he has (and it seems like more REAL activity than usual) looks like it's to weed out the prissy girls.

Sean's detours and dead ends have me interested in seeing what transpires, i.e. such as the fact that Kacie gets the group date rose in epi 2 yet is sent home before the RC in epi 3, Sarah opting out, whether he is really interested in Tierra or is she just a producer pick that he has to play along with, why things go south with Lesley Murphy, etc.

Most of all, I look forward to seeing why many of his "good on paper matches" didn't work out (AshLee, Lindsay, Desiree, Lesley). This isn't a knock against Catherine either - it seems like the producers found quite a few girls and Sean confirmed this, that they probably thought matched up well with Sean's background, i.e. such as how they thought Sean and Emily would have made a good match based on what she said she was looking for pre-season.

I agree, NCGal. Sean did confirm that there were lots of good girls there- and sorting them out was the problem (and a few self-selected out, which I think was good, too- he wasn't for them). I forget, did Kacie excuse herself, or did Sean let her go early before RC#3?

In looking at what we know of Sean's family- incredibly successful in marriage, building relationships with one another, etc., Sean is looking for a partner - for life- and a team player, if you will. Frankly, though I had always thought, from my seat, that Sean was the right choice for Emily, I wasn't so sure that Emily was right for Sean. I am really looking forward to witnessing him make his choice.

This is very interesting. I haven't watched since Jillian's season, so I went on Wiki to see if there's any correlation between 1 on 1 on episodes and F1.

See a pattern? In most cases, F1 has the solo date on ep. 3. Who has 1 on 1 in ep. 3 in Sean's season? Ashlee & Lesley. I still remember the post from an inside prior to FD that "Ashlee is the one to beat. Sean is very into her". Something probably went wrong in their FD.
Other than Emily, the rest of F1 had their date on ep. 2. In Sean's season, Desiree and Sarah did. Sarah took herself out and I wonder if Deseree's HTD prank backfired.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying Catherine is the default F1, but IMO, Sean was more interested in other girls earlier on, but as time goes on, he likes her more and more, probably reach the highest point after FD.

That's what I want to see too. I also wonder about the "roles" they have to play. In my mind, I can see Tierra "the early frontrunner that everyone hates, aka the villain", Ashlee "the one who falls too early too hard with a sappy story", Lindsey "America's sweetheart, aka the next Bachelorette".

I hope he fell for Catherine slowly and that the other initial attractions, strong as they may have been, proved to be less than he had expected. If his bound with Catherine took longer to form, it might just be stronger?

I think it's important to note that the F1 and F2 for Sean seem to get relatively late 1 on 1s. I think that might have been by design, especially if they were involved in all the early group dates. I think Sean's preference in his real life has been to get to know girls a little first before pursuing them. This way he could do that with the girls he had an idea he wanted to know best without leading them on too much (interestingly, Tierra didn't have an early one on one, but that first rose was enough to make her believe she was the front runner). Those two would not have believed themselves to be frontrunners until after their one on ones. But then they got to go on arguably the best first one on ones- outdoor adventure in Joshua tree and outdoor adventure, sightseeing and concert in Whitefish. A little adrenaline, a little romance- all with someone he'd gotten to know a little bit already.
