That's what I heard--he added something about "There was just something missing." I'd say this is why many relationships end--people care about each other--they are both great people--they just find that something is missing that they want/need for a lifetime relationship. I don't see this as bad at all. Sorry, but I'm not getting how this, or even that he hasn't had many long-term relationships, makes him a date and dash kind of a guy.
Ok, I am not trying to be too argumentative here - please - but I am going to point something out knowing full well that this time it could be myself that has the wrong end of the stick. :awesome:
How many times have we blown off stuff in the edit that has been pointed out because we liked the dickens out of someone only to have it come back and bite us in the rear end? It starts with Jeremy, it continues with Jillian, it goes on with Reid ( especially Reid), it then got huge to Chris, and bless her heart, last season with Chantal.
I like JP. He has this huge, infectuous grin, and this guy has some more natural charisma going on. To top that, I haven't seen anybody else on the radar that is even in the running yet, and we are going into the 4th episode; however, there are some little red flags in the edit that are popping up. He may be F1, but those little red flags need to be pointed out in all objectivity.

Great convo going on this morning. The point about figuring out why something is left in the edit is crucial to understanding what we're watching. It was pointed out elsewhere that Ashley and JP ordered in chinese food and she actually fell asleep in his arms on their date, but that was cut out of the edit. And yet, they left in the part about his dating history. There's a reason they make the choices they do in the editing bay.

Agreed – when Reid’s neuroses started appearing throughout the episodes, many folks thought it was rather cute - and maybe they were, but they were all red flags to me. For me, it’s not only content but the context in how they are used/edited.

Reidiscool *BTW I love him too:
You and I are on the same wavelength regarding Ben. I am anxious to see some actual time with them together to test out my theory..thanks for your explanation.

Why can't JP's dating history be more about Ashley's storyline. She had just been dumped by Bentley and painfully insecure that the rest of the men did not want her. On her date with JP she finds out that he is usually the dumper. We then here her ask (in light of the Bentley situation) what would keep him from dumping her. His answer was not about relationships at all but about just taking a leap of faith. If it works out awesome... if it doesn't time heals all and you move on. I saw no foreshadowing that he was to break her heart as well or vice versa ... only that at the end of this these two will take the crazy leap together. Ashley terrified and all. This whole season is about Ashley not being scared or having regrets like she did last season with Brad. JP is the only one at the moment who fits whatsoever in the with this storyline.... except for Bentley (the antagonist)

Alexxxx, I totally agree with this. However, I think that most times, the reason is to plant doubt about the person not to explain. It's called stirring the pot or fanning the flame where there might not otherwise be a fire!

Very well said That's the whole story this season, will Ashley have had enough time to heal and move on to take a leap of faith with JP.

But we don’t know that yet – that’s part of this whole storytelling thing – we don’t know exactly how this plays out in episodes to come, but it will be part of JP and/or Ashley’s story.

Then why not give us the shot of her falling asleep in his arms – why focus on his dating history and not also include her cuddling up to him and going to sleep?? For me, it’s always about what we see and what they don’t’ let us see. I don’t think the whole dating history thing is nothing that isn’t setting up something – I’m not trying to assume I know what that is, only that it is.

The edit is telling a story, leading us along a storyline for each contestant, and the lead. It could be positive or negative, or both, for each person, whatever it takes to get us to the intended conclusion. I think the point being made here this morning is that we have to look at everything we're being shown and draw conclusions objectively. It's very easy to only see positive edits for our favorites or only negative edits for the villains. At least, that's the way I see it.

So we are back to the point of questioning why they included the little fact that he ended the 2.5 year relationship. Was that important? Does it have any bearing? If not, why include it in the editing?

You're absolutely right! We won't know until we know! When all is said and done, we will understand perfectly which spin TPTB were going for. Until then, it's all analysis and speculation.
ETA-- Alexxx and Bloomers, I agree with you both-- there is a reason that TPTB are showing us the somewhat negative slant. But, it could be that they are only trying to create doubt so that it is not obvious.
